I had the hanger steak med rare and it was seasoned and grilled to perfection. My son had the lamb chops which were 3 fat and well seasoned chops cooked med rare, the flavor was spot on. My daughter in law had a top sirloin, which was slightly over cooked and in the dry side, but that cut can run dry since there's no fat marbling. Back Alley Bowl is a complete bowling alley, along with a restaurant that serves the sort of cuisine that you'd expect from a sports venue. I actually paid a visit to Back Alley last November, and I'm just now getting around to posting my review on Yelp. The restaurant has a definite "sports bar" feel, and features a great "vibe." I love the high tables and chairs, but tonight I chose to sit at the bar. Perhaps that was a bad move on my part? The dinner menu features great "bowling alley" food. Everything on the menu looked wonderful, but I finally settled on the "Tommy Burger," and an order of fries. My "Tommy Burger" was cooked to order - medium in my case - and included a half pound patty of beef, lettuce, tomato along with onion, on a fresh bun. The burger was definitely "old school" as it featured "Thousand Island" dressing, with is something I absolutely love on a burger. The food is good, the dining room has a definite "sports bar" feel to it, and the service is efficient, but not particularly friendly. I would rate my burger 4-stars, the atmosphere 4-stars, but I'm being generous to give my server a 3-star rating. So... overall, I'm giving this place three stars, which I believe is generous. Who would think an eatery at a bowling alley would have great food? We came in as skeptics and left thinking I'm coming back every chance we get! Victoria was our server and her recommendations were on point. The curly fries were amazing. The cucumber spritzer with Tajin was delicious. After hours of driving from S. Cal Desert area, this old fashioned, yet very comfortable bar & restaurant were just what we were looking for. The interior lighting was not too noisy and the service was not too intrusive; it was just right. And the food was surprisingly delicious and superb!!! What a great hole in the wall we found!!! I went to back alley several times as a kid and adult while growing up they always have great food and a fun bowling experience.

We didn't bowl, but ate dinner at their restaurant in their temporary outdoor Covid tent. Consequently, we never went into the Back Alley. My mom would be proud that I stayed out of a back alley (probably in more ways than one). A bowling alley is not a place I'd consider eating but the locals love it. I didn't. The beer-battered cod was like dried salt cod that didn't fully rehydrate. A crust similar to a corn dog, the coating was not fully cooked. Oddly, the much better fried onion rings appeared beer-battered with a coating that looked entirely different than the allegedly beer-battered cod. The French fries needed more crispiness. As vegetable side that automatically comes with an entrée, the butter-glazed asparagus seemed like a curious choice but was the best part of the meal. I shouldn't expect much service from a bowling alley. Back Alley fulfilled that expectation. Entrées arrived first, then basic side salads, and finally silverware. "Back Alley" might mean "backwards" in Bishop. The locals likely won't mind if this tourist (or other tourists) stay away so they can have Back Alley all for themselves. I'm not sure where to start! I guess I'll start with some of the AMAZING people that work here! Chandra, Colton and Emily were so welcoming and friendly. Colton did a great job of "persuading" my husband that the baked potato was so much better than than the rice. The salmon, asparagus and baked potato were spot on! As was the slightly dirty martini that Colton made!! Emily and Chandra were so friendly and conversational - they made us feel like we were long lost friends. Kinda of a hidden gem that obviously the locals know. Situated in a bowling alley but the restaurant and bar was packed. We bellied up to the bar after the hostess found us a spot. Now when a say "bar" its not quite like a bar at a cocktail lounge its just a bar with stools looking at a salad prep area. They do serve alcohol but not sure where the drinks are prepared just not at this bar in the resturant. While waiting for our food, I watched a young man preparing salad plates in advanced. He would then place the salads in a refrigerated cooler until needed. He looked like he was taking pride in his salad duties or just a new eager employee. None the less I ordered the "wedge" salad and it was a wedge of super cold and crispy iceberg lettuce. The menu indicated it came with a raspberry vinaigrette drizzle which I opted out of so as not to taint my blue cheese dressing. The salad came with the essentials of dressing, bacon , and blue cheese crumbles. The salad was good and hit the spot. I ordered the chili size which consisted of a hamburger patty smothered in chili with beans and cheese (onions were optional). I found the cheese was a bit stingy and it could have used a bit more cheese. The chili needed salt and pepper and lacking in flavor. My wife had the grilled chicken breast which came out juicy and had a great flavor. She chose the plain chicken breast but they offered teriyaki and bbq as choices. The dinner plate included the sides of green beans and a baked potato and both were decent accompaniments. She also opted for the peppered beef soup as a side and she found it to be wonderful. The menu boasted of prime ribs later in the week along with steaks and lobster available. Given the amount of people eating I venture the rest of the food is tasty. I will definitely return to try some of the other items in the future. Heck why not try a couple games of bowling to work off the dinner. Either way a little hidden gem of a place. read more

Nice place for locals for sure! Lots of business on a Friday night. Bowling alley connect to the restaurant that serves food better than most bowling alleys! Had their flat iron steak which was very good. Pork chops were a bit dry and overcooked. Hot wings were very good! The only issue was the lack of Prime rib. We tried the rib eye steak, top sirloin, and the Tommy Burger during our latest outing The Rib Eye was a generous portion and cooked medium liked I ordered. It was juicy, tender and flavorful. No steak sauce needed for me, but you can ask for A-1. The top sirloin was thick and tender and enjoyed by my wife. My son had the Tommy Burger which was a cheeseburger with a beef patty combined with ground bacon. I was too full to try it but my son ate it well. The steak dinners came with a soup or salad, and we opted for the baked potatoe. All of the food was very good and beyond what one would expect to eat at a local bowling alley. When you're I. Last time we were in Mammoth we all went to this bowling alley and it was awesome. We had a large party of 12 and we had a blast. Food and drinks were flowing as we ordered, the games were good enough for the kids and the lanes and overall place was clean and nice. Was a little hesitate when locals recommended we fine dine at the bowling alley but this place was pretty good. Had great service by Deborah and our party of six was seated immediately. Was pretty busy on a Sat night but not overwhelming. Price was good for the meal we got. I ordered the prime rib special and my meat was cooked perfectly baked potatoe was big and hot. I could have done without the green beans but they were not bad in flavor. Meal also came with side salad and house ranch. Afterwards we burned off some of our calories by bowling. Was $7.00 per person for a game including shoes. People on bowling side were friendly and even offered us some bowling tips. Service was friendly and attentive. My steak was cooked perfectly - char on the outside, med-rare inside - and Andy's sirloin was right on rare and both were finished off with garlic butter.
