Went on Tuesday , margarita and taco Tuesday. Got my $10 margaritas they were OK.. not in a margarita glass. My husband got a scotch when we asked how much was to drink first. It was 5 to 6 dollars because it's happy hour then it became $10 because of the pour on the rocks . Ok no problem . So when we go to check out. It was now $35 so I questioned it. Why? Two margaritas $20 one scotch $10 ... now it became $15 for his scotch . This is all during happy hour. When I questioned it, the scotch became 12. Babylon social is where all the action is. We went on a Saturday night and it was packed! Mixed crowd in terms of age. The food was fantastic which kind of surprised me because it was so busy. It's not just about the food though. There were a couple of things really bugged me. One person in our party has a gluten allergy. They offer gluten free chicken fingers which is amazing. The problem is the fries that come with the chicken fingers are apparently coated in something that is not gluten free. How do we know? Asked the server who went back to the kitchen to find out. How in the world anyone pairs non gluten free fries with gluten free chicken fingers is mind boggling. Moving on, the ac was on and the windows and doors were open. Cool air conditioning + hot air makes condensation which was dripping on my wife while we were seated at our table. I noticed the same thing happening by the bathroom. Speaking of which the bathrooms are in the weirdest place you could imagine. You have to walk through the food prep area and kitchen to get to the bathroom. So weird. Lastly this place is LOUD. Like really loud. I am not exaggerating when I tell you our party could not have a conversation at any point while we were there. If you're 25 and "looking for love" but aren't much of a conversationalist this might be the place for you since your prospective partner won't be able to hear you anyway lol. They have there own beer , "BOTTOM UP POUR " the owner is always there , meeting greeting & answering questions, He a hands on owner. This 'formula' stinks. The place is so loud because of the poor acoustics with the open ceiling. Open kitchen window lets food sit. My fries were ice cold and the burger juices soaked the bun making it inedible and I had to pick it apart with a fork. This guy used to run Southpaw brewing and got booted. I had High hopes for Babylon Social but i was very disappointed, first off the place is so loud you cant have a conversation, the drinks were all watered down and VERY expensive. We ordered a simple Vodka soda and it tased like water, everyone in our party of 6 had similar complaints, the soda was flat and tased watered down. We thought it was just a bad service but our second ones were just as bad. They have TVs everywhere and when we asked to put the Mets / Yankees game on the bartender told us the Chef had Control of the TVs... What??? The new look is great. Food was good and prices fair for the meal. Service was fine. However, the noise level and acoustics make it really difficult to have a conversation. Also, drinks are Manhattan pricey. A vodka soda costs $16. I feel that after the allure of this new restaurant wears off these drink prices will steer people away.
