Tried this place for the first time. The fried dumplings were deep fried instead of pan fried which was disappointing. The salad greens were good but the ginger dressing had a heavy hand on the vinegar. Same for the dumpling sauce. Sushi was good, but the shrimp tempura was overly deep fried. I'm a big fan of the Sturbridge and Worcester Baba Sushi locations so I was eager to try this new version. Made a reservation for two as it was Friday and I didn't want to schlep to Bristol to be let down. The hostess (or maybe a waitress who happened to walk by as there was no designated host station) seemed unmoved by the mention of a reservation. She said grab an open table downstairs. We didn't at first realize there was an upstairs dining room. The downstairs area seems like an afterthought-- it's crowded, absurdly dark, and cold-- several patrons were eating with coats on. We asked to be moved to a table upstairs which we presumed to be the main dining room and were told we could go up and wait for something to open up. Upstairs was brighter but totally chaotic as the bar and kitchen are in this space as well. We lurked around trying to avoid being trampled by waitstaff until a table opened up and we snagged it. Waitress was friendly, though she forgot to put in the appetizer we ordered. The sushi-- totally fresh and lots of interesting choices. However, the four rolls we ordered all tasted basically the same. No heat to the sauces, nothing special, pretty unremarkable. The prices are fairly steep as well. I would still recommend the Sturbridge location as the atmosphere there is much more serene. I doubt I'd return to this one though. read more

So so good. We had the best server - Mack - who made the experience superlative. She had great suggestions and made sure to move us upstairs when space was available. Loved the spring rolls (cucumber wraps with crabmeat filling - insanely good), and many of the rolls. The oysters were also fresh and fabulous- a big highlight. read more

Meh. Sushi is good, but expensive. Service poor. Awful music played way too loud. Some kind of manager doing paperwork on the upstairs bar, pretty unprofessional. I think improving the atmosphere would go a long way here. read more

This place use to be great, we have been numerous times since it opened. However, our last visit was just a nightmare. Walking in they no longer give menus you are expected to look up their offerings on your phone, total hassle and confusing to pick and remember the multiple things you want to order. Our server was never around, we literally had to go find her and no it wasn't busy. There was only 1 other table occupied and they were right next to us being ignored as well. My husband ordered a Long Island ice tea, was so terrible he had to send it back, only we waited 10 minutes for our server to show up which she never did and we had to bring it back to the bar ourselves to get a new drink. When our food finally came they completely forgot my sons meal, as well as 2 other items. Which I mentioned, she said it was coming. The other food eventually showed up but not my sons meal, again my husband asked her, no meal. And she blamed it on the chef not being able to speak English. After our whole table of 8 people had FINISHED EATING then she finally found his food. Totally unacceptable. Not to mention the atmosphere outside which is suppose to be the best part was full of stacked up crap and uncut weeds. We will take our $400 bill somewhere else next time. read more

On a summer evening you can't beat the outdoor seating on the patio or second floor deck overlooking Bristol harbor. Anticipating the Asian Pear Cocktail I was disappointed. I wanted something clear and light and instead the martini is muddy as tho canned pear juice has been included. It was not refreshing nor delicious. A small order of shrimp, asparagus and sweet potato tempura looked good and was enjoyed. But: better if piping hot. Asian noodle dish was enjoyed by others and vege maki roll okay. Another trip will be a Japanese beer and tempura. The front of restaurant does not indicate a restaurant so walk around to the back. Bathrooms could feel cleaner. read more

We were here on a Sunday night. Good thing we have a reservation as the place is full. Only seats available are at the bar counter. While there were a lot of tables available downstairs, it wasn't open at the time. The wait staffs were very attentive. We ordered the shrimp tempura and half dozen oysters on the half shell for appetizer and the nigiri and shashimi combo and a noodle dish for our main course. The presentation was beautiful for the oysters and they taste great with the house special dressing and caviar on top. The tempura was perfectly cooked. Not oily and light and crunchy on the outside. The nigiri and shashimi were fresh and very well presented. We highly recommend this new sushi restaurant in Bristol! With their beautiful waterfront location, it's going to be packed during the summer months! read more

I have eaten sushi (only) here a dozen times now and am impressed with both the quality and presentation of Baba's fish. If you're into toro, urchin and spicy tuna you would be hard pressed to find better any where in RI. The great waterfront location and friendly staff are additional pluses. read more

Guess this stuff only happens to me at this establishment. Dragged here by friends Friday night. Shared the chicken and vegetable tempura. Half way through we find a hair in the asparagus. Show the waitress said hair. Her response was oh I'll show it to the kitchen. Leaves the plate there, comes back 15 minutes later asking if we are all set with the food. The food that we told her had a hair in it. Takes the plate away, no mention of the hair, never had a manager come over, the item wasn't removed from the bill, no apologies. When you walk in , you go upstairs to be seated. Downstairs looks like a lounge area with a bar. No one was there so not sure. We went during the week. Only a few people were there so not busy. Small upstairs, some tables and a bar but it was neat looking. Service was okay, nothing spectacular. We waited for a while, entree's came out before appetizers. We were hungry so just accepted it. Shrimp/veg tempura and miso soup were okay, had better. Sushi was fresh and excellent. Lots of variety. We had to wait a while to order dessert. Waitress and customer at the bar were talking for quite a while so we patiently waited. No apology for our wait. Key lime cheese cake was good but expensive. For $9 you get a small slice. Banana flambé was a huge disappointment. We got an uncooked banana on a banana peel with liquor sauce and a tiny bit of whipped cream. Regretted getting and paid $8 for basiOverall, we would return but for sushi only. Would like to go back when weather is warmer and sit outside. read more

Our first time dining here last year was great, so we decided to return for my boyfriend's birthday dinner. I made a reservation to sit on the deck at 8:00pm to catch the sunset. We arrived and were told we couldn't be seated on the deck and were then brought to a table inside closest to the kitchen ... even though there was no one else at any other table inside. I asked if we could at least sit near a window and the host complied. I then asked again if there was any seating available downstairs outside and was told simply "no." I get it. I've worked in the restaurant industry a long time, sometimes these things happen and a table isn't available even when you make a reservation, HOWEVER, the host was so rude and didn't once ask us if we would be willing to wait a few minutes for a table to become available. Just flat out said "no" and walked away. Someone clearly didn't show up for work that night so a waitress didn't make her way over to our table for a drink order for 25 minutes, by this point there were 3 empty tables on the deck (uncleared). I asked her if we could snag one of those tables and she said yes once one was cleared ... which didn't happen for 25 more minutes, at which point we'd been there for nearly an hour with only one drink and no apps yet. The kicker was when my food finally came out I pulled a 2 inch piece of orange commercial fishing line OUT OF MY MOUTH. I didn't order a fish dish. I was absolutely disgusted, and while the server was apologetic (and she has no blame in this situation, I tipped her 20%), no manager ever came over to apologize. Stunning view, but that's about it. While on vacation in Portsmouth, RI we wanted to kick off my wife's birthday with some sushi. We saw that this place had an outside deck which looked nice so we made a reservation. When we arrived we were led to the deck; I saw an empty 4 top and thought we would be seated there. Instead they led us downstairs to another 4 top on the patio which was not as nice. I requested that we be seated on the deck at the empty table. The person who seated us told us that the hostess told her to seat us on the patio. I asked why and she said, that the table on the deck was for reservations. We told her we also had a reservation. She then said she would ask and went upstairs to check. We waited and waited; 15 mins. later we see another party getting seated at the empty table. We were about to leave but she came back and brought us to the deck and seated us at a diffent table. Well, we should have left as it took 1/2 hour to get our drinks and an unheard of amount of time for our apps and mains. We were able to look into the restaurant and actually saw our mains sitting at the sushi bar waiting for the server to pick them up. The sushi was good but the service was beyond AWFUL. If you live in this area try and find another sushi restaurant since this place is not worth the aggravation. read more
