Large building, private parking lot. Went in here years ago for a Mother's Day brunch before it was Jackie's. It was New year's Day. A group of 7, seated very quickly around 1pm. Looking around, the interior needs some updates. it's very dated and basic. Our waiter was so nice it was cute. He made too many apologies for things out of his control. Like running out of something at the bar. Last night was New years- I assume it was a great night at the bar for business! Everyones meal arrived but mine. I ordered a Dancing Dragon roll. Everyone else had meals. Everyone was 10 minutes into eating and I still didn't have food but that nice waiter came over and gave me a small salad on the house. My sushi then arrived. This is one of my favorite spots for dinner. We ordered take out (got it delivered) and it was delicious. I tried menu items I've never had before and I was pleasantly surprised. 10/10 recommend the wonton soup- the wontons are huge and the flavor in the soup is unreal. I got a small bowl and wish I got a large. 8/10 dream roll- I loved all the things in this roll but it was a little bit overwhelming. The server was very attentive and friendly, and the broccoli did seem fresh... However, the food was pretty bad. The pad thai tasted a bit off. The beef was tough. Worst of all was the salad dressing, which I suppose was trying to imitate Japanese restaurant dressing; the carrot ginger stuff. It was brown and chunky and looked exactly like dog vomit. After driving by this restaurant several times, we finally gave it a try. The restaurant was nearly empty, so we sat at the bar instead. The bartender/server was friendly, and the food arrived promptly, which was great since I was starving! I enjoyed the Mango Roll- it was fresh and Instagram friendly, plated on a green-flecked marble dish. While I didn't imbibe in one of their many tasty cocktail offerings, I will certainly be back in the future for a drink or two! I feel like this would have been a better experience if we dined on a night when it was more lively or there were more people in the joint, but for midweek sushi on a random fall evening, friendly service, and quick turnaround from order to plate, one cannot complain. This place is very cute and well decorated. The staff was very nice. And for the most part, the food was good. I enjoyed the crab Rangoon and the sauce on the sesame chicken was very yummy. However, the chicken itself was just a bit undercooked The gyoza were ok, but the wrappers leaned more toward the thick, Chinese style than the delicate Japanese style. Overall, it was a nice lunch, and I would go there again, but try something different next time. read more

We haven't been here in a while and thought we'd give it a try. We started with Nim Chou; asking for the chicken as my wife explained she is very allergic to shrimp. Food was always pretty consistent however that has changed dramatically. We ordered takeout and the Lo Mein was a gummy mess. That got tossed. The hard "dry" noodle that comes with it were so stale that you could literally bend them. Our other order we specifically stated twice on the phone do NOT add chicken and they got that wrong. Totally Lousy. My husband and I had been here once before, but this visit we were totally disappointed in the entire meal, absolute garbage. We started with won ton soup, a hot and sour soup and an order of crab rangoons. Both soups were luke warm at best and the rangoons were descent, definitely the best thing we ate there. Our meals were awful, Hubby had Singapore Noodles, YUCK YUCK YUCK! It tasted exactly like those nasty, cheap ramen noodle packages you get at the market and OMG so much curry flavor! So nasty! Our server was hands down the best server we've had in the SouthCoast. She needs to hold classes for others in customer service. Fresh seaweed salad and nime chow. This place can't even get a take out order correct when you place it online. We ordered and drove there 20 minutes each way only to find out that left out items on our order. Instead of offering to deliver it their attitude is oh well. You would think it would solicit an apology and take it off the bill but they said we'll give you a credit for next time. This is very americanized asian food with virtually no flavor. We came with a party of 16, and our server did her best to accommodate us and serve us efficiently. There is a lot of variety on the menu. The lunch specials are priced affordably (about $7-8), but the food itself could use some improvements. I ordered the chicken with Thai basil and asked for it extra spicy. They topped it off with some dry chillies, so it was not spicy at all. The whole dish was very dry and flavorless. It's strange feeling like you've been somewhere forever. Sitting in Jacky's last Tuesday night. It felt like it's been a thousand times- a cold rain, tables draped in elegant cloth, photographs of exotic fruits framed and matted in pristine condition. The food didn't match the atmosphere, but I honestly didn't notice the food. What demanded my attention was the realization that the faces have grown older. My family, that have always been accompanied by a youthful energy (Even the eldest with her own brand of liveliness) now look back at me with a wisdom only time grants. Their presence is calm, restlessness escaped. Their anxiety overcome by an enduring faith. I could see the whole room with my eyes closed. There's someone there I have never met. the future generation of us with a living curiosity for everything new. I can't believe we have made it here. Life can unfold so quickly before your eyes. Something became very clear to me the other night sitting in Jacky's galaxy surrounded by familiar faces. It's that this relay race of our lives is our eternal link to who we are and where we come from. There is no doubt in my mind that every step we take in this life continues a poem that has yet to be completed. Jacky's has the best asian food in the area. Actually I'd say it's some of the best asian I've had. A lot of people come here for sushi, which I hear is very fresh, but I'm not a sushi person. I've only tried the Philadelphia roll, but it was a good choice for my first try. I eat here about once a week because I work around the corner. My favorite items are the chicken lo mein, crab rangoons (very cream cheesy) and their amazing chicken pad thai. If you've never tried pad thai before, Jacky's may ruin all other places for you. If you HAVE tried pad thai before and liked it, you'll be very surprised by the stuff here because it's very, very different. I get mine extra spicy. Sometimes it burns my face off and other times it's just right. They also have pretty good sweet & sour chicken and basil chicken. I could probably go on and on, but basically if you like some type of asian food somewhere else, it'll probably be better at Jackys. They also have awesome scorpion bowls and their hot & sour soup is the bomb. read more

I've been coming to Jacky's Galaxie so much lately that pretty soon they will start to know my face and voice, if they don't already! I moved to Bristol about three weeks ago and I think I've been here about five times since. And each time was great! Where to start... first, Jacky's Galaxie has some incredible soups, and for the price, you get so much. A "large" soup can easily serve four as an appetizer, if you're getting takeout. I particularly love the miso soup and tom yam soup. Soups here are always very fresh and very tasty with fresh vegetables and fresh herbs. I really want to try the Vietnamese rice noodle soup since I'm sure it's the same caliber. I always get a soup when I order now, and always get the vegetarian nime chow for a starter, too: it is also very fresh and excellent. One tip about that nime chow: I avoid ordering the shrimp nime chow since for a dollar more you get exactly two pieces of shrimp, and the taste is pretty much the same. Save your dollar. What else? The general tso's chicken is one of the best I've had in years (and I can promise you I am no stranger to asian take out), with a bit of spice yet not so much that you can't taste the food. It's also not drenched in the syrup-y general tso's sauce, but they include enough that you still can taste it. They actually use fresh broccoli in this dish, whereas some chinese places throw in a couple of sad looking frozen broccoli pieces. I know general tso's chicken is one of the unhealthiest things to eat, but the fresh broccoli seems to take a small slice of guilt away. Jacky's Galaxie makes their general tso's sauce a bit thinner than what I've had in the past from other places, and I have to say I like that change. If you're up for healthy veggies rather than fried foods, I recently added the broccoli with oyster sauce to my list of favorites. I had never had it before so I can't compare to other restaurants, but the oyster "sauce" was very brothy and the broccoli was so fresh, like pretty much all other food and vegetables here at Jacky's. A huge serving too. The only thing about this dish that someone else may not have liked was how crunchy and undercooked the broccoli was, but at home that's how I actually cook it (lightly steamed) so it was right up my alley. I didn't really like the coconut shrimp, although if you love coconut you'll probably love it. They really slather it in coconut and you can tell it is pan fried in coconut oil. It was OK, but I would have rather tasted the shrimp. The good thing was you get a ton of shrimp with this dish, not skimpy at all. The pu pu platter for "two" looks expensive at $18 but it really serves about... eight people. HUGE with tons of variety, and it could easily be a meal for two or three people on its own. The egg rolls were only lightly fried, which was great - I've had WAY too many where the grease is literally running down your hand. I especially liked that it had a flaming clay pot in the middle, which added a cool ambiance when we were eating. I've noticed that you tend to get more food when you dine in vs if you order take out. Not sure why that is! The waitstaff are always very attentive and the restaurant, though usually crowded, is not usually very loud. The decor is nice and not outdated. The menu here is so varied that I bet i'll be trying new foods for months before I run out of new options. Overall, the best things about Jacky's is that the food is SO FRESH, and most dishes give you a lot of food for the price, and also that there is something for everyone on the menu - vegetarian, meats, fried, steamed, sushi, etc... you name it, they've got it. read more

General Tso chicken - had to spit it out - it was THAT bad Lo Mein - had a small bite, no good - looked even worse than it tasted Beef Terriyaki - had an okay taste but they were pretty fatty Thai Chicken Salad - wasn't good - really dry, chicken didn't look great, big time lack of flavor except when i randomly had a bite that tasted like straight pine The only thing i really ate was the Crab Rangoons. But if you don't like them really cream cheese-y then they are definitely not for you. Food was pretty pricey too for being so nasty. We won't be back. read more

Ordered chicken satay. Was brought some thick deep fried chicken coated in some kind of red coating with duck sauce on the side. (Manager indicates this was really Chicken teriyaki - (so why call it satay???). When I asked for peanut sauce for the "fake satay" I was told that's not how satay is served - that it comes with duck sauce (WTF) ?! They brought me the equivalent of cold peanut butter to dip the chicken "satay" in. Yuck. Appetizer not eaten and not taken off the bill despite complaining to management. My expresso martini was overloaded with vodka and burned my mouth with every sip. Mentioned it to waiter and was told management wouldn't take off bill because I had consumed a few small sips but he offered to bring me another - um, no thanks. First one was bad enough!!! The tea was lukewarm. On a positive note, the chicken with asparagus was good. Waiter and manager who I spoke with made me feel like I had never dined in a Chinese restaurant before, had no clue how satay was made and offered no compensation for items that were wrong. Pretty arrogant if you ask me. I left ZERO tip for their condescending bad attitude and will NEVER go back. It would have taken so little to correct these issues and management just couldn't give a F*CK. I have not been here in years so I decided to stop by after a college tour to grab lunch with my daughter.... terrible. I will never eat here again. The rice was dry and lacked any flavor. It was lukewarm. The chicken was full of gristle. The Lo mein tasted burnt. The dessert tasted like freezer burn. I didn't have the heart to tell the waitress bc she was so sweet.
