The man who works there is super sweet. I have come here around 3-4 times and can confirm that they make it fresh. You can see them making it right after you order and the food is always crispy and hot! I usually get the #1, the chicken shawarma. The set comes with pickled vegetables, fries, and a sour cream/mayo type of sauce. The sauce is amazing and the pickled vegetables pair well with the shawarma in cause you need a palate cleanser before your next bite. The chicken shawarma is one of the best I have ever had. They put chopped pickled vegetables in the shawarma, which adds a nice kick to it. They also allow for modifications if you don't like pickles though! Delicious, flavorful and good quality food. The truck is tucked behind a Shell gas station so you might miss it if you're not looking for it. We tried the chicken shawarma plate and the chicken gyro plate and both were great. Everything was served fresh and hot and the portions are generous. Bummed because I got home to find my order was not right. I ordered 2 chicken shawarma plates (#14) and the gentleman told me they only had enough rice for one. So I changed to 1 shawarma plate (sliced "doner" on rice) and 1 arabi plate with fries. I even mentioned to him that my daughter likes fries so that would be okay for her plate. Must have been a misunderstanding. I am gluten sensitive so couldn't eat it - there are tiny bits of chicken with sauce and pickles wrapped burrito style in a bread. Too much work to try to pull out the little chicken pieces (did try a little and it was on the dry side without the fixings). Gentleman had said after I placed the order that it was "easier" that way so I should have asked what he meant because two different orders doesn't seem easier. I did ask when handed the containers if there was yogurt. He said no but then followed up, do you mean a drink? I just wanted yogurt to go with my meat and turns out the yogurt sauce is really delicious and the spicier red sauce is good too. But showing up at 4:30pm on a Friday, it is surprising that they were nearly out of rice and apparently, also yogurt drinks! Lastly, the fries were limp and barely warm (took me another 30 minutes to drive home so maybe they were warm at first). I'd need to pop them into the air fryer and maybe they would be good then but seems they had been sitting around for a while. My daughter didn't care for the sandwich (was looking forward to it as she grew up eating Mediterranean food living in Turkey). We gave some to the grandkids and they didn't want it either. May give them another try. Hope springs eternal! Could have just been an off day and I'll double check my order next time. Today was a 1 star experience in terms of the food. Best shawarma in San Antonio and I've tried many. Moved here from Phoenix where good shawarma is aplenty. Here...not so much. But this place is absolutely delicious! Fresh, hot, delicious, perfectly spiced, meat is not dry. I just stopped by with my 7-year-old after a doctor appointment and saw it in the Shell parking lot while driving home. The owner is extremely nice and gave us lollipops and a sample of the shawarma. He brought out the food to my car where I waited. Ordered 2 chicken shawarma Arabic sandwiches, 1 mixed kebab plate, and some falafel. Everything is amazing. I have high expectations and have been disappointed many times in this city but Baba's is the best. They make their own muhamarah, delicious and something I hadn't found at many places in SA.The family that owns it are very friendly and the quality of their food and service has absolutely carried over from their first truck. Grabbed dinner as I left the med center before my drive to Austin. Was going to grab some beef sticks form the convenient store; then figured I'd give the gyro a try instead....BRILLIANT DECISION! Got the mixed gyro plate ( chicken and lamb, with rice, hummus and bread) and it was delicious! All of it was great and instead of jumping on the road to gnaw on beef sticks, I sat in my car and thoroughly enjoyed a sumptuous surprise meal. Definitely a grab and go place as the 2-3 tables by the truck are at the side of busy store at a busy intersection. But o work in the med center just a couple of blocks away so I'll definitely be trying other things on their menu vs eating mostly just the hospital cafeteria food! read more
