My wife and I had decided to give this place a try since it was "hot and new." We went for lunch I had the papaya salad/pork sausage/sweet rice combo. The papaya salad was on point, probably one of the best papaya salads I'be had in the area, very fresh, spice was prefect. The pork sausage was great! Some place will add a lot of fat to their pork sausage to give it more flavor but this place was actually smart & creative enough to add herbs & spices rather than fat. Very well done. So my main reason for not giving this place a 5 star was the rice. Ive eaten rice every... single... day since I could remember so I know what fresh rice & old rice taste like. The... Rice was OLD!! It barely stuck together anymore, the edges were dry & crunchy. This was probably the only time I'd never finished rice at any restaurant. But what also kept this experience from being a 3 star was, they didn't have any mango ice cream so our server gave us a slice of coconut cake (on the house) which was a nice thing to do. More like a 2.5. I was just underwhelmed and then disappointed due to the price of our meal. The service was friendly and efficient (I was worried it may be troublesome based on other reviews, but we came when it was basically empty so I guess we lucked out). The food was okay, not great, not bad. My dish was rather sweet, my husband ordered a spiciness level 3/4 and it barely had any spice to it. shrug. The beef wasn't very tender in either of our dishes. We ordered the shrimp on the kid menu and it was just 4 pieces of shrimp (which my kiddo enjoyed), but for the price at other Asian restaurants we can usually get a full plate of noodles and 8 or so shrimp. The portion size, overall, was smaller than other restaurants in the surrounding area too. The food here is better than some places, but there are a few other spots that are a bit more of a drive but a better deal and just tastes better. read more

My cousin, aunt, and I had been looking for an asian restaurant to have lunch at on new years day, yet practically every place was closed except for Baan Thai. When we arrived the place was empty, but a few people came in shortly after we arrived. The waitress was extremely friendly and welcoming. I ordered their green curry which was really good. The coconut soup was kind of disappointing though. My mom makes this at home quite often and I'm sure coconut soup should not taste like straight up coconut milk. Baan Thai's coconut soup tasted super creamy, almost too creamy, no spice, no real 'thai' flavor. But that was the only thing wrong I can think of, and it is not a deal breaker. I hated to cheat on Sushi Thai in Cary but Baan Thai is so close for me. My kids were kind of crazy that day and from the pics on Yelp I wasn't sure if the restaurant was family friendly. The staff was very welcoming and even though the place is small it's cozy. We were right next to the kitchen and while it's nice to be able to see what's going on there were wofts of warm air hitting us from time to time. It seemed to coincide when things were thrown into the fryer. The smell of it kind of bothered me but didn't seem to be an issue for the rest of my family. I tried the Pad Thai and my wife tried the sushi. The food was good but not on par with Sushi Thai. I still plan on hitting this place again since it is so close. The service was decent and the prices were pretty reasonable for the amount of food you get. read more

If you are in the mood for fresh Thai food then you should definitely try Baan Thai. They have an open kitchen so you can see them cooking and hear the sizxle and smell the wonderful fragrences. We started with the Star Crab (crab wonton). Fried but not greasy; cream cheese melted just right. Some had more crab than other pieces but I couldn't complain...they were all good. The wonton soup was fresh and had plenty of wonton, chicken and scallions. The pineapple chicken curry was excellent but could have had more heat. I ordered 1 star heat and I could barely taste the heat. The Pad Prik Basil with chicken was just as good but again we wanted more heat. Next time we'll order 2 stars or 3. The only "complaint" was that our main courses came within 5 minutes of our appetizers, so by the time we got to the main course it wasn't hot. Next time we will tell them to wait until we are finished with appetizers before serving main courses. There will definitely be a next time!! read more

I don't like to give bad reviews, but this was one of the worst Thai dining experiences that I have ever had, and we eat Thai fairly often. We placed a take out order for Pad Thai, and Crispy Chicken with Red Curry. The Pad Thai was tasteless aside from a mild plasticy flavor. The scarce chicken was hard and over-cooked, and there was hardly any basil or other vegetables. It was really just big sticky clump of tasteless noodles. Even worse was the Crispy Chicken with Red Curry. The chicken was not only hard and over cooked like the Pad Thai, but it was old and foul tasting. In addition it was supposed to be crispy but instead was extremely soggy and nasty. Someone needs to tell these people that when they fulfill a take out of crispy chicken, they need to place the chicken in a separate container from the curry sauce, otherwise it becomes a soggy mess. My wife and I picked at the food a little, made a nasty face at each other, and dumped everything in the garbage. This was a complete waste of $28. I should have known better because when I picked up my order, the cashier was hardly friendly. "I'm buying $28 of food from you lady. A polite smile and a thank you would be nice." The two stars are because the curry sauce was OK, and as I said I really don't like to give bad reviews. Never again. Don't waste your money. read more

If you are looking for a safe Thai place this place is okay. They have a limited kids menu including chicken nuggets and fries (have never seen fries in a traditional Thai restaurant). Their steamed dumplings do not seem to be steamed, and they are not closed but instead the filling comes out of the top. I had the green curry and It was good, my husband had the pad Thai which he said was fine. The waitress was very nice, and everything was done quickly, however we were the only people in the restaurant. I had noticed a previous review that said the health rating was lower, so I had walked in to check it out before committing to dinner with my family. The health rating when we went was either a 93 or 95 and the place seemed very clean. As I said, if you are looking for a fast meal and are in the mood for Thai this place fits the bill. Flavorful, they will cater to your spice level and use Thai chilis if requested, etc. we are vegetarian - our favorite dishes are papaya salad, masaman curry, and basil fried rice - and of course we get them all spicy! Finally! A Thai restaurant in Apex. Interior - very small, almost hole in the wall set up. The cooking area is exposed to the dining area. Food - pretty good! By far the best Thai restaurant in the area. All fresh made authentic and good service. We have tried the basil duck, tamarind duck, Tom kha, pad Thai and the Thai rise and it's just great food. If you haven't been here I suggest you try the place. Price wise is similar to most restaurants in the raleigh area but with superior quality. They have lost consistency and reproducibility on their dishes. Orders have been mixed up and you might get the same dish tasting different from one week to another. I've been trying to find a decent Thai restaurant since I moved here in July, I've tried a couple in the area and k haven't been impressed. I ordered takeout from here on Thursday night. The order consisted of pad z ew( typically Calle pad see ew), pad Thai, and fried spring roles. The flavor of the food was quite tasty, however the portions were pretty small for the price, not to mention typically anytime I've ever ordered pad see ew it comes with white rice, this did not. This is the best Thai restaurant I've tasted since I moved here and I will probably go back, however I'm still on the search for a knock out Thai restaurant in the triangle. read more

Mediocre at best. We ordered Thai iced teas, pineapple fried rice and drunken noodles. Two thumbs up for the Thai iced tea. The pineapple fried rice had huge chunks of onions and unevenly sliced/cubed chicken and was missing something because the flavor wasn't quite there. The drunken noodles were extra wet and the sauce was watery and there were extra vegetables cooked into it (never had it with green beans and broccoli). On a positive note, the host/waiter was very friendly and polite and checked in on us quite a number of times but we will probably not return. read more

I really have enjoyed our meals here, but today was such an unpleasant experience. We walked in to order take out and the young man told us he was too busy and I'd have to wait 30 min. All I wanted to do was order it and I'd come back to get it. He proceeded to tell me again with his arms waving in the air , " can't you see I'm too busy right now, I don't know if you want to wait". There were only about 4-5 tables full, how is that too busy? He could of just said, " if you just wait a few minutes I'll take your order", but nooooooo he just had to keep saying he was too busy. High quality food for low price. I love Thai food and this restaurant takes it to the next level. We came it as a company of 7 and each had different dishes. We found everything fresh and perfectly cooked, especially their duck - we found it to be the best around. Conveniently located next to Harris Teeter.
