I've been here twice. I got the duck curry one time, and their famous chicken entrée another time. I think the food is good, but nothing too special for me. I love the mangoes, sticky rice and the coconut ice cream dessert though.
Really enjoyed Baan Siam last night. Service was great and the food was excellent. Loved their version of tom yum soup. And I had the beef salad. It was excellent. Tons of flavor. Server brought me chopped Thai chilies in fish sauce as well. Dish was spicy as is but I love the serious spice levels. So I added a bunch of chilies. So good ! Pure fire. Will come back next time I am in DC for sure.

This appeared to be a highly rated Thai place in DC, so I scheduled a double date for lunch. The place was quite spacious and inviting, and we snagged a table by the window. Their pictured menu was very appealing...with some items I've never seen. Possibly because of the pictures, I anticipated the best. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I didn't take pictures of everyone's foods...but from what I saw, it just didn't live up to my expectations. Foods tasted OK...nothing beyond that, and the presentation of all the foods were dismal. Among the four of us, we split 2 appetizers...Chicken Tapioca Dumplings and Grilled Pork Skewers. The Chicken Tapioca Dumplings were definitely the favorite. I can't remember what entrees our friends had, but my husband had the Northern Pork Curry, and I had the Khao Soi with Chicken. (I was personally very disappointed with my dish. It just looked flat...literally. The portions were really small, and there was no oooomth to the dish, and looked nothing like what I saw beforehand. In fact, my dish looked terrible! Tasted good but nothing close to the Khao Soi I had while in Breckenridge a few months ago. Luckily, the desserts were pretty good. We ordered Fried Ube w/ Ice Cream, and Mange & Sticky Rice...and I think these 2 items (and one of the appetizers) somewhat saved the day. We were there at least 2 hours, and I think the waiter basically dropped out on us after the first 30 minutes (?)...and was barely there at all. So I can't say the service was that great either. Frankly, I was embarrassed to have chosen this place to meet our friends in DC. Maybe it was an off day...because what I experienced was basically 3-star foods and service.
Would definitely recommend the Khao Soi and mango sticky rice. Delicious food and great staff, everyone was welcoming and very friendly.
We had a lovely experience here when we were in town for the week. The dishes aren't your usual standard Thai fare and they aren't afraid to dial up the spice levels for maximum effect. We shared a few dishes and all were well presented and full on flavor and heat level. I came here primarily because they offered kanom krok, a delicious coconut dessert. It's hard to find where I live so I am always on the lookout for it when I see a Thai restaurant. It did not disappoint. It had the perfect amount of sweetness and texture. I'd get it again. The decor here is elegant and inviting. I'd definitely visit here again if I were in the area.
The food was truly delectable. Service was good, ambiance was on the romantic side although I went with a friend. The Khao Soi was especially delicious. The way they marinate the chicken and tenderize it til it practically falls off the bone--amazing. The flavor profile of the stirfried glass noodles was complex and delightful as well. Neither were particularly spicy to me, though.
Delicious food and great service. I appreciate that have a variety of gluten free options that are labeled here. The chili pepper ratings of spiciness on the menu was also appreciated; the server was able to tone down spice for some of my group too!
Super quick service! We ordered and our food came out in less than 10 minutes. We only got two dishes. And even though there are designated spice levels on each, you can ask for a spice tray to make the dish spicier or ask for less spice. Both dishes were really good!
(Honorary Six Stars) When looking at potential dining options, Baan Siam's food pictures really stood out to me as "look at all the foods I've never tried before!" Well, it did not disappoint. The four of us arrived a little after 1PM on a Saturday and were able to get seated without a reservation. The food: Green Mango Salad - sweet, tangy, nutty, herbaceous - very tasty and refreshing - great way to start the meal Thai Vermicelli in Chili Peanut Sauce - rice noodles covered in a meaty sauce with crispy fried watercress. Lots of interesting textures makes for a fun and delicious dish. Stir-fried Garlic Rice with Thai Style Fried Chicken - savory garlic rice with lightly battered chicken Dessert: Fried Ube with Ice Cream - this came with a choice of Coconut or Thai Ice Tea Ice Cream. The picture of this looks like Davy Jones, but trust me, it tastes a lot better than it looks. So much going on here starting with the ube - nice lightly battered fried exterior with a soft middle on a bed of crispy coconut and sesame. On the side is a huge scoop of ice cream on some sticky rice. The ice cream is tasty, but if I get this again, I think the coconut would pair better. Kanom Krok - I don't know how to describe this, you just need to try it. Maybe a crispy coconut pancake made into half-spheres? These are really good and make for a light ending for a meal. We came to Baan Siam for an adventure of new tastes and dishes. The restaurant nailed that and this meal was one of the best experiences we had on the DC trip as well as one of the more reasonably priced meals.
This was an Uber Eats order so I can't attest to the actual location. I was surprised at how quickly the food was ready and arrived to me despite it being a delivery order. It got to me in record time! The restaurant did not pack utensils, which I would've expected with a food delivery order so if you're ordering via food delivery be sure to add in the notes if you need utensils. I ordered the lemongrass chicken. White rice was included. This meal is labeled as 4 on the spice level and it was as spicy as I expected it to be. If you don't like that much spice, be sure to ask for less spicy. Overall good flavor on this plate and it had an ample amount of green and red peppers. The rice was not great for me as it was a little on the mushy side. In my opinion, this is easily a shareable plate for the amount of food I received.
Have heard very good things about this restaurant and finally got to go. Made a reservation two hours before (they have a cancellation fee) and was seated swiftly. Seems like the restaurant gets pretty busy! I ordered the shrimp chili paste fried rice with crispy pork belly as well as the thai tea. The food came out really quickly - ten minutes after ordering and was nice and hot. The portion size was perfect for dinner (but no leftovers for me). I would come back for their HH (bar only).
Came here with a large group for a birthday dinner in the middle of the week and had a great time! The server was super attentive and helpful for our group of 10 people. The cocktails were tasty but for a non alcoholic option I did like their Thai iced tea. I ordered the Thai vermicelli with chili peanut sauce and was surprised by the generous portion! It was so good, I ate it all up, but if you're hungry definitely come here!
Arrived here on a rainy Wednesday night for a dinner with work colleagues. While the restaurant was bustling, we were seated in the back toward the kitchen out of the chaos which made for a quieter dining experience. Well, at least until the party of 10 was seated adjacent to us. But that isn't any slight to the restaurant. Our server was quite friendly and attentive and assisted us in navigating the menu. Unfortunately, she also was responsible for the larger group which split her attention so as the meal progressed our service suffered just a fraction. The food, however, was totally on point. Each dish we sampled was well flavored and solid representations of the style of Thai cooking. Nothing was overly spicy and the group, which had a couple of members who preferred milder fare, were all raving about the meal. While we sampled a variety of the options, the one standout was the ginger branzino. This was truly an elevated dish with a wonderful presentation. A definite "must try". Again, everything else was consistently good, so you really cannot go wrong with any choice. (Editor note: I just remembered that the evening special, fried dumplings, weren't all that special. I would suggest skipping those) Thai is one of my preferred Asian cuisines and finding a spot in downtown DC has always been somewhat tricky since Baan Thai closed. Not sure if Baan Siam is related, but the food is on par For anyone in this part of DC, it's worth the stroll to Baan Siam. Only a short 10 minutes from the convention center hotels. Even though we were drenched after of walk back we all were quite please we had gone. read more

Believe the hype! The food at Baan Siam is outstanding! I accidentally went to the wrong restaurant and was late checking in at Baan Siam. They were very accommodating and thankfully didn't charge me the $60 cancellation fee. I ordered the green chicken curry, rice and mango with coconut sauce. My standards are high as I've had great food in Thailand. Baan Siam is top notch! The sauce that the chicken was in was very flavorful with a delicious spice level. Additionally, we had a great table with a view of the master chefs in the kitchen. The service was excellent. Overall a must! Loved loved loved it! read more
We were in a bit of a rush and Nick at the bar did a fantastic job getting us our drinks and food quickly. On top of the great service, we really enjoyed the authentic Thai dishes. My favorites were the southern beef curry and beef salad. read more

Great for sharing! $12 Baan siam roll- 6/10 the rice paper wrap was very gooey and different from your typical spring rolls. You get 4 but they are on the smaller side. I wouldn't get again. $12 ENTREES: Thai Vermicelli in Chili Peanut Sauce- 10/10. This dish was warm, rich in flavor and I loved the tempura vegetable in it. Next time I'd ask for a spice rack to add some heat. $20 Chicken yellow curry- 7/10. My friend really enjoyed this dish but to me it tasted more like Indian curry than Thai curry which isn't what I would have wanted given this is a Thai restaurant. We came into Baan Siam after an event at the convention center. We didn't have a reservation but the hostess was able to still seat us, with no rush. We got the dumplings, which were huge!!! The tofu skin made the dumplings so crispy and overall they had tons of flavor. From there we went straight to dessert and got the coconut griddle snack and the coconut ice cream. They paired so well together, and I loved that these desserts weren't overly sweet. For drinks we had the lychee martini and the honey buckin' also made to perfection. Unlike most Thai restaurants - and much better. The restaurant offers authentic Thai dishes from the four regions of the country. You will not find Pad Thai on the menu - a fact that is emphasized in their WiFi password. What you get is flavorful and unique dishes. The spice level is indicated for each dish and no substitutions are allowed. It is good to visit with a group , sharing plates is encouraged. The room is comfortable and the service is attentive. read more

When I visited DC, my friend immediately was like: you have to go to Baan Siam. And she was RIGHT. I love Thai food, but Baan Siam offers something different from what you see from usual Thai restaurants. I'm not sure which part of Thailand my dish was from, but I love her and really loved the exposure to some other traditional dishes from regions of Thailand that might not usually be represented on a menu. I got the stir fried glass noodles with chicken and shrimp, which was just the right amount of spicy for me to handle. It was so well flavored without being too salty, and there was so much going on in each bite-- it was unlike anything I've had before. Like kind of sour but also slightly sweet, and tied together so nicely. Thai iced tea was also strong in flavor. The restaurant itself is also beautiful and had such a lovely ambience. Extremely sold. I want to try everything on the menu. read more

Been here a few times now, forewarning that spicy is actually quite spicy! They are able to adjust only certain dishes for spice level. I've gotten: Khao soi with chicken (love) Northern Thai mixed curry with chicken (love) Spicy lemongrass chicken (salty side but still good) Shrimp chili paste with crispy pork belly (very heavy since it's fried rice and fried pork) Coconut milk griddle snack (was not bad, could try something else) Mango and sticky rice (loveeee it!!) Servers here have always been very knowledgeable, attentive and one even helped us with splitting a complicated bill! Ambiance has romantic dim lighting, striking decorations, modern furniture and airy high ceilings. It's in a great spot near capital one arena, so a convenient dinner and event sort of restaurant. read more

Second visit and loved it again. If you're looking for food with traditional spice levels this is it! Everything is flavorful, delicious and might clear your nasal passages with the heat. Although there are some mild options, would not recommend if you don't like spicy food. Service was quick and attentive. Amani at the bar was a fave!! So nice and helped us pick out some dishes that we loved. read more
This might've been some of my favorite Thai food I've had before! I came on a Sunday evening with a group of 6 at around 5:30. There probably wouldn't have been a wait since a few tables were still empty but we had reservations just in case. We shared a few dishes: - tapioca chicken dumplings - beef salad - northern style pork curry - southern style beef curry - lemongrass chicken - tom yum noodles - chili peanut noodles Everything was exceptional but the highlights among these dishes had to be the northern style pork curry, beef salad, and chili peanut noodles! All had delicious depth of flavor, tender meat, and generous portions. It's a lovely place to come with a group to try more dishes. When I'm back in the DC area I would come here for sure! read more
Extremely underrated restaurant in Chinatown. Ran into this place by accident while looking for a place to eat for lunch. The service is very good and our server gave awesome recommendations. Also the inside is extremely clean and the decorations and lighting made it very cozy and relaxing. The food was very good. The fried rice was some of the best fried rice I've had in awhile. The Tom yum noodles were my favorite!! read more
I found the menu at Baan Siam to be more extensive and unique than other Thai restaurants that I've been to. Service was fast and friendly and the restaurant was well decorated. We ordered the following dishes and loved all of them: - crispy lotus root & grilled shrimp salad - loved this; the crispy lotus chips were unique and tasty - Northern Thai curry - sweeter than the usual curries with a solid kick (I was sweating by the end) - Tom Yum noodle soup - the broth was incredible - mango sticky rice - always a classic dessert, 10/10 read more

Cusual restaurant; not much of ambience, but went to lunch, maybe it's better at night. Got the garlic shrimp rice, and the spicy fried rice shrimp. Great portion, delicious flavor. 19 or 20 dollars each. Service was quick. Will definitely go back and try new dishes. read more
The food here was amazing! I had always wanted to try the restaurant since I had heard such great reviews, and I wasn't disappointed! This is a more upscale Thai restaurant so they do not have what you typically would see like Pad Thai or Pad Seew. But we still thoroughly enjoyed our food and got our Thai food cravings satisfied. The grilled branzino is a must get when you come to this restaurant. There is such big chunks of fish meat along with refreshing vegetables. It does come with a lot of ginger so if you are not a fan of ginger, I would steer clear of this dish. The fried rice was amazing and had large shrimp pieces in it. I will say though, the noodle dish and curry were a bit on the salty side. The curry, however, pairs nicely with the side of rice it comes with. The noodles were extremely spicy as well. Not pictured, we got the sweet and sour soup as well. However, I would pass on this as it was too heavy on the fish sauce and was way too salty. We also got some cocktails that were refreshing, sweet, and delicious. They were also beautifully presented. The service was also good! Stopped in to grab a quick bite to eat and mocktail before meeting up with a friend for a show at the Howard Theater. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how warm and welcoming this restaurant is. Easily found a space to sit at the bar which has plenty of seating. Happy hour is from 5-7pm Tuesday - Friday and the menu offers up tasty eats and drinks. I tried the Thai-style fried chicken wings and when I visited I was participating in "Dry January" so the bartender was so gracious enough to make a lychee mocktail that was absolutely delicious and so pretty. Will be back to Baan Siam to try some of their other menu options. read more

I met a friend here for dinner tonight and it was a good experience. They had some great seasonal specials and Thai classics. I got the seasonal crab fried rice. It was a bit spicier than I thought it would be but very yummy. I also got some Thai ice cream and I really loved the bowl it game in. It was made of rice flour and was tasty. The food also came out extremely quickly. Less than 10 minutes from when we ordered. Very impressive! The waitstaff was also very nice and checked on us a few times. We are outside so I can't say much for the decor but it seemed nice from the outside. I would definitely come back and eat here again. read more
We stopped by here on a day trip to D.C. This came up on an eater list. The restaurant was huge - unlike any Thai restaurants in NYC. The price was also very reasonable. It's kind of crazy how much more expensive dining is in NYC. The service was attentive. The food was delicious. It was a different style of Thai food so pad see ew, pad thai were not on the menu. We enjoyed the pork skewers. The golden fried pockets were good, but missing flavor. The Khao Soi was not the best I've had. The garlic rice with fried pork on top as well as the noodles with the fried pork on top were super tasty. Overall, great thai spot in D.C. Reasonably priced. Just not the best Thai I've had. read more
We had an amazing meal at Baan Siam for my dad's birthday! Their food is so fresh and flavorful. And they have more than just the classics on their menu. The Thai vermicelli is amazing! We loved the spring rolls and sweet dipping sauce, as well! The service was great, and the atmosphere was chic and comfortable. Ive had this place on my yelp list for quite some time and we were looking for last min dinner options so this because our choice for pick up! I absolutely plan to return for a dine in experience so this is specifically for our meals we picked up. Our order was ready within 20-25 min and was readily available as soon as I walked through the door. The place was buzzing, looked like a full house. We ordered the Shrimp-Chili-Paste Fried Rice with Crispy Pork Belly, the Thai-Style Deep-Fried Chicken Wings, and the Egg noodles with crispy pork belly. We started off with the wings, they were fried pretty hard almost too hard but were still as delicious as we had expected. Both the fried rice and egg noodle dishes had a nice spicy bite to them and were bursting with flavor. The crispy pork belly in the egg noodles were much more tougher than we had liked but it did not significantly takeaway from our overall enjoyment of the dish. We absolutely would order from here again for pick up and we look forward to a having a dine in experience in the future. read more

Absolutely amazing restaurant. Upon arrival, the guy at the bar was on point with water and the menu. Never skipped a beat. Taking order for drinks, for food, refill, and check. Everything is fantastic. The atmosphere is great. This place is pretty big, but it gets busy. I arrived at 5 pm to beat crowds, and the crowds were there 20 minutes later. I planned at eating at the bar, but found out there were no tables anyway. So, by all means, make a reservation. My only thing is that space all around the bar is tight. Chairs right next to each other, good for meeting, but if you are with someone, the next person over is with you too, LOL. Flavors and portions were perfect. Note pay attention to the number of chilies on your dish, I eat spicy, and 3 was pretty spicy. I don't want to know what level 4 is. I'll be back, loved the place. read more

KenScale: 8.0/10 Visit: December 2023 As lovers of Thai food, my wife Jun and I are constantly in the quest for discovering awesome Thai restaurants. While we frequently ate at Thai Chef in Rockville nearby where we live, is there a go-to Thai restaurant in DC? A few months after we moved to the DC metro area in 2021, we visited Baan Siam in the Mt. Vernon Triangle area. It was a pretty solid meal but I think in retrospect we were pretty tired from a long drive to the restaurant on a Friday evening with huge rush-hour traffic so the restaurant somehow fell off our radar. Last month, I wanted to visit the restaurant again as we were due for some Thai food. Our second visit to Baan Siam in early Saturday evening on a more relaxed schedule following our trip to National Gallery of Art was more memorable. The food from the female chef Jeeraporn "P'Boom" Poksupthong is not afraid to showcase the Northern Thai region's culinary tradition. Many of the dishes may look somewhat familiar in concept at other Thai joints, but you wouldn't find the high level of execution from Baan Siam. For a successful meal at the restaurant, I would recommend looking over seasonal specials where we picked two of the four dishes we shared together. Jun was very appreciative of the spicy-sweet calamari with its wonderful mix of spicy and sweet chili sauce flavor that was quite appetizing, which also applies to the description of crispy lotus root and grilled shrimp salad. One dish that we frequently order at a Thai restaurant to determine its quality is the beloved khao soi with egg noodles and chicken. While we wished Baan Siam had a bit more chili paste-based broth, it was nevertheless delicious with deceptively spicy kick. From the seasonal specials section, we also picked basil fried rice with smoked duck which turned out to be a wise choice as we really enjoyed the way fried rice worked together with duck in chili garlic sauce to reveal an addictively rich dish. If this dish is still on the menu on your visit, I highly recommend you order it. Getting a reservation at Baan Siam wouldn't be too difficult given the sizable dining room, but you would still be wise to book in advance for prime-time reservations (the restaurant's dining area was nearly packed during our early evening visit). There is a full bar with a diverse menu of beers, cocktails (many of them using Southeast Asian ingredients) and wines that you can order to complement the meal. After our revisit, we both agreed that we wished the restaurant were a little closer to our home (the restaurant also offers pick-ups and delivery but our home is outside the delivery zone) so we could visit more often and try other dishes from its expansive menu. In any event, now we know where to get our fix for Thai food when we are in DC. Baan Siam is one of those restaurants where it is extremely difficult to get a bad meal and we look forward to visiting it again in the near future. read more

I'm always up for trying something new. Due to an allergy I had to avoid all Thai food. Fun fact, you can outgrow your allergies, and consequently you can become allergic at any time in you life. But since I outgrew my allergy to peanuts, and everyone I was with were coming here, I was up for it. Since I was new to the whole Thai food scene, I had to have some coaching on the menu. I had no idea what I was in for. There was a lot of food on the table to start for sharing. The table went with Chicken Tapioca Dumplings, Fried Asian Pumpkin, and Golden-fried Pockets. Since we were sharing, I only tried two of the three. Pesky allergy to shrimp still lingers over me. The dumplings were...interesting. The texture to me, was a bit off, but I had to go back a few times for a nibble. The Asian pumpkin, delightful. I have had it before so I knew I was going to enjoy it a lot. While we noshed on the appetizer and waited for our main courses to arrive I was able to take in the place. It is very inviting, and somewhat intimate. Wide area which is dimly lit, can be a bit noisy, but it felt warm in here. We were sat within viewing distance of the kitchen, so we got to see all the magic being made. For my main course, I had to lean on that coaching a bit. Both from the table and from the staff. Being that I had never had this type of food before, I was unsure of the heat level. The staff for sure was able to point me in the right direction. Which, was a bit more spice than what I am used to. I went with the Stir-fried Basil with Tofu & Green Beans. I stirred clear of just about a lot of the items on the menu that dealt with shrimp. I know, I could ask for those dishes without the shrimp part, but I wanted to enjoy a dish that was complete. I paired this with a side of white rice. When I first bit into this dish, I knew that I was missing out on a whole cuisine for far too long. Even though there was so much heat to this, at the lower level, I was not used to that. The heat hit me but did not stop me. This meal not only satisfied, but freed up my sinuses in a way I have never felt. I had tears coming down my face and somehow one of the peppers went upward instead of down. The burning sensation from it all was immense, but I could not stop myself. I championed through and finished the meal. As a reward, the table went for the sweets. We had a sampling when it came to that as well. We got Coconut Milk Griddle Snack, Mango & Sticky Rice (which is a seasonal item), and Coconut Ice Cream. I was near compacity when this arrived, but I knew I had to cool down my palate as my eyes still watered. All I nibbled on at the end of the meal was the Mango & Sticky Rice. It was the perfect mix of sweet and cool. It simmered my palate and was a great end to a great first time experience meal. The staff here were impeccable. Went above and beyond in terms of customer service. Also being in view of the kitchen provided some entertainment to see them assemble the dishes. read more

Baan Siam is my new favorite Thai restaurant in dc. I came here for my weekly dinner and drinks with friends. The inside of the restaurant is nice and spacious. They have decent outdoor seating too. I was happy with all the food and drinks I tried here. I also liked that eating here didn't break the bank. It should be noted that they don't offer Pad Thai or Drunken Noodles on their menu as most traditional Thai restaurants do. Rather, the menu at Baan Siam is more curry and spice based. The A Smokey Old Poe cocktail was strong but delicious, and the Lychee Martini was dangerously sweet and tasty. I love mango so I was excited to try the Green Mango Salad. The salad was flavorful, and I loved the mix of sweet and savory in the dish. The Thai Vermicelli in Chili Peanut Sauce was tasty. The Chicken Red Curry with Chayote was well made, and the curry was packed with flavor. A good spot for a dinner with friends, family, or even a date. I'm excited to come back here to try more of the menu. read more

Very delicious Thai food in DC! I suggest coming with a group to try many things family style and also to make rsvps. Highly recommend the crab fried rice. The duck red curry was delicious but there is a spicy kick to it. I thought the fried appetizers all had similar tastes to them with the sweet chili dipping sauce and the fried batter maybe had a hint of lemongrass. Definitely get the coconut ice cream! read more

Yes they are very good at modifying spice level
Is your patio outside and open to fresh air or insulated? Looking for a covid-19 open air option.
Hi Emily, Our patio is covered but open on all sides.
Do you have vegan options?
We do have a few vegan options on our vegetarian menu.
Is the patio heated?
Hi Christy, The patio is partial heated, most tables have heaters, but not all do.
