I asked a couple questions about the menu and was immediately directed to the BLT by a woman in the kitchen. Wow I wasn't disappointed. It was sooooo good. The bread was toasted perfectly (so it didn't kill the roof of my mouth), the tomato's and lettuce were fresh, the bacon crispy, and that basil mayo. A life changing BLT if there is such a thing. A couple side notes I appreciate. Bittersweet's marketing team deserves. Ton of credit - they have some awesome swag available for purchase. Also, this is a Christian oriented cafe with bible verses, messaging, and music. Love it! And finally, check out the story about Bittersweet's roots, its commitment to addiction recovery/support, and the owner's son's story/passing. The name "Bittersweet Cafe" will take on a deeper meaning (the news articles can be found in the walls before the counter by the bathrooms). Cheers Bittersweet, thanks for having me, and God bless!

Servers were friendly and hospitable. The only downside is waiting in line to order and then waiting for your food. This is probably not the place to come when you have a time crunch, but if you can eat a leisurely meal, come on! I had the Bittersweet chicken salad sandwich and we shared a peanut butter mousse dessert, both were great!

When I googled wineries around me this one popped up and my first thought was how did we not know…read moreabout this winery. We thought we've visited every winery in the Pittsburgh and surrounding region of a 2 hour radius of our home in the south hills of the city. Well this one popped up and I said we have to go, but on a day that we can adventure to several other establishments that we haven't visited previously. This was our second stop of the day and we brought our 22 year daughter with us. We arrived the owner, gentleman was very nice and told us about his wines and why they're more unique than anyone around, hell more unique than any wine region that I've ever visited. We've visited a lot of wineries, but that is here and there. Anyhow he described that all of his wines are made our of fruits but not with sulfites and other preservatives. If you're on a diet and or you're a vegan, vegetarian, or just a health nut this is the wine for you. You can indulge in alcohol but a healthy wine, if that makes any sense. He did state that he uses yeast, which I know that alcohol can still form without the yeast, but their is a trick with the yeast to help support. We tried several of the wines and they were all dry which I didn't see that coming. I thought fruit wine sweet, hell no they were very dry. Maybe some were too dry with not a hint of sweetness, I'm a dry wine fan, so I liked. I'm a home wine maker but I mainly make dry wines from grapes, but have made sweet wines from fruits, love to do the tour and understand more of his approach as I find it fascinating. The owners were very friendly, we had a glass of the pineapple wine. Mainly because I love pineapples and tried to make a wine out of pineapple juice before dry and it turned out awful. This was nice. They have a young daughter who reminds me of our 22 year old when she was her age. She'd go with me on work travels, here Josie is cute and greets all of the customers by offering everyone a doll. She also thought I was my wife's dad. The beard makes me look old I suppose, compliment to my wife. Overall this place is a good stop, they have small bites which are incredible as we had the norm charcuterie board. I'd recommend giving them an opportunity, much different than any winery you will ever visit in the area and may anywhere.

We also tried some different wines, and ended up getting a bottle of caramel apple wine to take home. It was very different and very good. After making…read morethe drive between Northern Virginia and Ohio for more than 20 years, we couldn't believe we had never discovered Out of the Fire Café before. Anyone who regularly travels the Pennsylvania Turnpike knows how hard it is to find a truly memorable place to eat. This one is absolutely worth the short detour. The atmosphere is charming, the view is beautiful, and the food exceeded every expectation. We had to try their famous mushroom soup, and even though I'm not normally a mushroom fan, it was hands-down one of the best cups of soup I've ever had. The smoked salmon salad was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. My husband ordered the Filet Mignon Sandwich special, and every bite was packed with incredible flavor. Our server was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. She made us feel right at home and added to what was already a wonderful dining experience. We finished with the Bananas Foster. While it wasn't the tableside flaming presentation you'd find at a fine-dining restaurant, the flavor was outstanding and the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. We'll definitely be making Out of the Fire Café a tradition on our future trips. If you're traveling the Pennsylvania Turnpike, do yourself a favor and make the stop--you won't regret it!

Sliders and a huge bowl of applesauce for one kid (big approval on both). Bowl of creamy tomato soup for kid #2, which he said was amazing. Yard Bird sandwich was enormous, juicy, and very crisply fried. Corned beef and sauerkraut (housemade) in the Reuben was delicious but had a slightly disappointing meat-to-kraut ratio that had me wishing for a bit more of the tender corned beef. A really nice touch is that the kids meals are 1/2 off with the purchase of an entree. $5 instead of $10. Great deal and still high quality food. Our waitress was terrific but the kitchen was surprisingly slow given that there were only a few diners in the restaurant. (The slow service made it a 4 star, not 5, experience.) Nice decor and clean bathrooms. Some in our party wandered through the quaint artisan village across the street while we waited for our food.

That said, the prices were kind of wild for what you get. The filet was good and cooked well, but the sides were lacking. The lobster thermador was $72 and all you got was tail meat, which felt pretty disappointing. The side salad was tiny and the house dressing was cloyingly sweet. The homemade bread was delicious and honestly one of the best parts of the meal. Dessert cakes were okay, nothing amazing. Overall, great ambiance and service, but the food didn't quite match the price.

Along with the menu, we received a document which briefly details the restaurant's history. After taking our drinks order, server Ronale explained menu items of significance such as their famous onion rings, homemade salad dressing and hand cut steaks. Our server kept our dinner at a comfortable pace and was aware each time we needed something. Our onion ring appetizer was superb. The French onion soup was tasty. The broth was delicious. Our steaks were expertly prepared to our liking. At the conclusion of dinner we decided to have a night cap. A dirty martini and an espresso martini sealed the deal for us. We highly recommend this restaurant. Can't wait to return for another dinner.
