I saw a sign for this place off the highway and was excited to get off and regain my composure. The guy who served me was so sweet, very friendly and didn't seem irritated with me talking and talking and talking lol I was anxious and couldn't help myself. We got some treats and used the very clean bathroom. They didn't have an annoying tip machine and the guy didn't even expect one but I wanted to show my appreciation for his kindness and allowing me to talk so much haha. Sliders and a huge bowl of applesauce for one kid (big approval on both). Bowl of creamy tomato soup for kid #2, which he said was amazing. Yard Bird sandwich was enormous, juicy, and very crisply fried. Corned beef and sauerkraut (housemade) in the Reuben was delicious but had a slightly disappointing meat-to-kraut ratio that had me wishing for a bit more of the tender corned beef. A really nice touch is that the kids meals are 1/2 off with the purchase of an entree. $5 instead of $10. Great deal and still high quality food. Our waitress was terrific but the kitchen was surprisingly slow given that there were only a few diners in the restaurant. (The slow service made it a 4 star, not 5, experience.) He said it was not a public charging station, it could only be used by his customers and himself. He very rudely told me it's not free and gave me a company to call to get a station installed for my use. Mind you this company was not open so I wasn't keeping it from customer use. I also offered to pay for the time it was on. He was on a power trip and thought he took priority over any one else. Stopped in on a Saturday around 12pm for brunch. I was seated immediately and brought water and a menu. I ordered a coffee and the chicken and waffles. My server was pleasant and attentive. The chicken and waffles was pretty good! The chicken was perfectly crisp, as was the waffle. The waffle was slightly sweet and the chicken was juicy and flavorful. I didn't love the gravy that was on top, unfortunately. The flavor just wasn't what I was expecting. The coffee was good! I love Rise Up. The decor was beautiful. The space is very well lit and there are exposed beams and string lights all over. The bathroom was MOSTLY clean. The toilet seat was up when I came in (it's unisex) and it was not clean.. Sweet potato and black bean enchiladas. I had high hopes for this menu item, but it disappointed. Very little flavor. The salsa was clearly out of a grocery store jar, and the enchiladas filling was a mushy sweet potato and a rare sighting of a few black beans. It lacked flavor. I was expecting some chunks of sweet potato, 10x more black beans, fresh salsa (or at least anything freshly chopped for the top like green onions, tomatoes or cilantro) and some seasoning. Overall, it was very average and tasted and looked like a diner quality enchilada, or something thrown together in a kitchen at home. Not at all restaurant quality food or deserving of the elevated price. Very disappointing. When Cornucopia first opened years ago, the menu was a seasonal, changing delight. We were there on an off-season weekday for lunch, so zero crowds. Can't tell how noisy it would be when full. The food - OK to great. I had the "chili burger" which tasted fine, but the white chili on it really needed more oomph to it. My wife had the steak sub, which was "lit" or "banging" or "slapped" or whatever the kids these days say. Radical. I would absolutely order that next time. I ordered the breakfast bowl and asked for no green onions just come to find out it's packed with onions and bell peppers when that was not in the description. Lovely ambiance and nice people. It was absolutely freezing, but beyond that it was wonderful. We went for dinner, it was not very crowded. Our waitress was sweet and attentive, and the cocktails were tasty. I ordered the pear salad, and tenderloin poivre and it was absolutely fantastic, with mashed potatoes and a corn chowder. Mom and I visited again. Thankfully, we went early, prior to an event, because the wait staff was working (hard) overtime. They were running circles around each other due to a call off. With that being said, they remained calm and since mom and i were in no rush, it didn't bother us. There were a few elderly couples who must've come in after church and were upset and left after about 10 minutes of waiting, even though they were told that they would be seated as soon as possible. The cafe hires young staff and they are gaining work experience, which is a good thing because someone needs to hire millennials?!? Or they'll never get job experience. We shared hot tea, warm feta with crustini and i had the ham and Gouda panini while mom got Caesar wrap. We both liked everything we ate. There was an event after we ate that we stayed for. I think the staff that worked the mid morning of 5/6/18 should be given applaud to by the owner for working hard in absence of employees and that they covered it up as best as possible. I wish the fire place would've been on for this rainy brunch day. :) And that they bring back the shareable plate of bbq chicken tacos and chicken and waffles. :) read more

We found quite a gem at the Cornucopia Cafe. We came here on Monday, July 3rd so that I could work while we were camping at nearby New Germany State Park. The restaurant was fairly empty at 9 AM, but quickly filled up. We sat on the back deck and had a lovely view of the Casselman River. We were seated promptly, and the wait staff was very accommodating. I asked our server if it was a problem if I worked from there for the day. She smiled and said, "That's fine, I work from here all the time!" Touché. We started with coffee and water, and then ordered the Backwoods Bear Claw, which could easily be a dessert. It was sweet, crispy and delicious. I saved most of my slice for just that purpose, but my wife at the rest of that before I could get back to the piece I'd started. For my actual breakfast, I ordered the Summer Fritata (scrambled egg, asparagus, cheese and arugula in a VERY HOT cast iron pan), and my wife ordered the Breakfast Panini (scrambled egg, bacon, avocado and cheese). It was all amazingly good. The fritata was light and very fresh. It had just the right amount of salt, and the balance of flavors and textures was superb. I think I had a bite of the fritata and remember it being similarly well balanced and yummy. Oh yeah, and we also ordered cheese grits. I love me some cheese grits, and these did not disappoint. The service at times was a little slow, but that was fine for me since I was in no rush. When we asked for hot sauce, they provided a bottle of Snake Oil from Woodberry Kitchen in Baltimore, another great restaurant. The view is absolutely spectacular on the back porch. There is a strip of grass, and then a wildflower garden on the slope, and then it levels off where there are benches along the river. Very , very slow. Coffee but no cream or sugar offered when asked for it took 15 min to get. The $ 7.75 crepe was with one piece of cheese and one thin deli slice of ham and no garnish. Looked like half a sandwich on a big plate. Served After a 50 min wait and was Not even hot. Husbands was hot and yummy and the coffee was good. Oh well guess I wasn't hungry and didn't recognize it. We've been there many times and each time we sat at the bar looking for a enjoyable night with a couple of draft beers and some food. This place closes at 8pm and believe me, they (all staff) will stalk you and make you feel like you had better be done and paid up before the 8pm bell rings. If your a couple that has to get a babysitter in order to enjoy a night out with the spouse, you will not have enough time to enjoy an evening there before you are made to feel that you need to get out. The bartender gets pissed off if you ask to sample their draft beers and when and if you get a tiny sample, it is not even enough to get a taste! The bartender also spies on you and listens in to your conversations. We witnessed the bored kitchen staff come out and get draft beers to take back to the kitchen. Food came, overpriced, and bartender does not like it when you ask for salt and pepper, hot sauce, or even a side of cream cheese. Place is beautiful but unfortunately ran by a bunch of woke Karen drill sergeant type clowns drinking on the job... The setting here is great. It's in a wonderful building that is very open & sort of "upscale rustic." Sitting outside is enjoyable, too, especially if you sit in the back with a view of the lovely stream. Another huge plus is that they allow dogs! As for the food, it's fine. Not fabulous. Not extraordinary. But fine. The biggest negative is that the service ranges from slow to very slow to painfully slow. Shared a cheese plate with my hubby and though it didn't have those fancy shmancy pickled this & that, mustards, olives and such - it had, what other charcuterie boards lack - CHEESE. I ordered a peach tea which was refreshing as well Entrees included summer pasta and a signature salad with chicken. As far as the salad it was full of various goods- egg, potatoes lives, onions, seeds, shoots, and a house salad that looked like French but was very good. The summer pasta was a pesto base sauce with zucchini and shrimp. Very crisp and clean food. Very tasty and well done. SERVICE: Girl was very nice and welcoming. Would've liked to have more attention but overall a nice job. CONCLUSION: I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. After two visits here I feel compelled to warn people. I feel ripped off actually. We ordered a French dip type sub sandwhich. It came out missing the sides but came with the soup we ordered as an app. Soup was cold. The sandwich came on hot dog buns. Supposed to be in a sub roll. But no it was cheap hot dog buns. So for 18$ we got two hot dog buns with a sliver of roast beef and melted cheese. No horseradish sauce like advertised and no side as advertised in the menu. Really dissatisfied. Oh and the kicker was the warm table water with 0 ice and it was tap water. With chlorine. Really terrible restaurant with an owner who likes to save bucks by using hot dog buns instead of real hoagie rolls. Note that have reviews turned off on their Facebook page. What a great little find! We were driving through to Western PA and found this gem on Yelp. The reviews were promising and it was really close to the highway. I'm so glad we stopped. It's the type of place that you always hope to find in a small town. Friendly service, good food, no learning curve--meaning you don't have to figure out how to eat there. We simply walked in and were led right to a table. There's also counter service if you're stopping in for coffee only. Speaking of the coffee, it was good, as were the waffles. We're a breakfast type of family, and we just barely snuck in before the 11:00 AM cutoff, so be mindful that it isn't a "breakfast all day" place. I'm not sure when we'll be through there again, but now that I know it's there, I wouldn't mind driving a bit out of the way to eat at Cornucopia Cafe again. read more

Best thing about a meandering road trip is finding special eateries along the way. I'm enjoying a crisp and sparkling peach sorbet Bellini and the hubs is sipping away on a yummy beer flight. We're enjoying the birds chirping, the bubbling creek, and a soft cool breeze on the patio of the Cornucopia Cafe. For our lunch, my hubby slurped up the delightful tomato soup while I devoured the "Bigfoot," a savory roast beef sammie. I highly recommend dunking your sammie in that terrific tomato soup. Place is cute, cozy, and airy, though con is the amount of flies that were surrounding us. Those were thr only cons tbh.
