B & K Bar B Que is just off of Interstate 65 and it has the whole barbecue dive ambiance down pat. The exterior will either scare some of the more faint-hearted away or for those true barbecue afficionados, it will draw them like flies. Barbecue is not supposed to be fancy and I find the best barbecue comes from these hole-in-the-wall type places. The two women working here were incredibly friendly and definitely enhanced my overall experience. I went with the half chicken and for my two sides, I went with potato salad and baked beans. As much as I would like to say that the food was earth shattering and life altering good...it was...okay. The chicken was greasy and the barbecue sauce was kind of bland. The price was decent and I didn't see a lot of other options, so I will rate it a four star establishment for the area. read more

Great service! I got my food in under 5 minutes. I ordered the BBQ sandwich platter with baked beans and a Sprite. I received my Sprite right away, and they offered free refills. Nothing like a good fountain Sprite! I sat outside, where my food was brought to me. The sandwich was a bit small, but the BBQ was excellent. The baked beans were also served in a smaller portion, but they made up for it with great flavor. The only downside was that they were out of peach cobbler. I'll definitely be coming back! read more

Wonderful BBQ and service. I can't say enough about how nice these ladies were to us tired travelers. My husband had a jumbo sandwich. It was HUGE! My regular sandwich was pretty large as well. My daughter got the baked potato with BBQ. She's 9, and her potato was almost as big as her head. Impressive roadside dive, perhaps not for everyone in its let's say rustic setting. But if you want good barbecue, generous servings and fair prices, it is the place. You order at the counter and everything is delivered ready to go--take out is a huge part of the audience. But there is a covered picnic table area if you want to eat there. And I recommend staying in place if you order the barbecue potato--really nicely done large baked potato covered with meat and sauce. Truly melt in the mouth quality. Fountain drinks only. B&K is conveniently located off of I-65 at the Clanton exit (the "giant peach" water tower exit). It is on the west side of I-65, and is less than 1/2 mile from the interstate. It is a small rustic building on the right side of the road. The dining area is a screened porch with three large picnic tables. The wonderful smell of hickory smoke filled the air. I peeked into the kitchen, and the B &K family was busy prepping and cooking. They were friendly, and seemed genuinely happy to serve me. I ordered the lunch special - BBQ pork sandwich, bag of chips, and a drink for $6.75. The sandwich was excellent, the chopped pork was tender and flavorful. The homemade sauce was good - it was sweet southern style, and complemented the smoky pork. Do yourself a favor and eat here instead of opting for the fast food chains that dot the interstate. read more

If you like fall off the bone ribs, this is the place to go! I've tried their pulled pork and chicken. Both were good but the ribs are hands down the best. The sides are the usual baked beans, slaw, potato salad, or chips. They also have brisket, nachos, hot dogs, and sandwiches. Desserts are usually banana pudding , peach cobbler, or pecan pie. They have shaved ice, though I haven't tried it. The staff here is usually friendly and service is fast. Give them a visit and give those ribs a try. This little bbq joint in Clanton sits just off the interstate and is a quick, easy, no frills spot to grab a good meal and a great price. It's pretty much a small shed of a building with only 2 or 3 tables inside and a few outside. The menu isn't expansive and they aren't trying to do 100 things. They just seem to do the 1 thing, making good bbq, and they seem to do it pretty well. Only a few sides available...beans, greens, chips, potato salad and not much more. But from my experience the things they did have were pretty good. The sauce was a little spicy, but the pork was nice and moist and didn't require a lot of sauce for it to be good. The sweet tea was very, very sweet. Overall a good place to get a solid meal at a price that's more than fair. Don't hesitate to give them a try if you're headed down 65 and looking for a quick bite. read more

Pulled off I-65 looking for a quick meal and my husband was craving BBQ. Ordered jumbo sandwich and side of slaw. Since we were in Clanton, Alabama's peach heaven I added a peach cobbler. Three ladies went to work and in less than 5 minutes I had a bagful of goodness. Sandwiches were good with just enough sauce not to drip down my shirt. Husband said the slaw was the best he ever ate and he and I are picky slaw consumers. I also ate every bite. Hardly had room for cobbler, but took a bite, then another because it was REAL good. As the restaurant sits in rural area and me being a out-of-towner, I had to ask my colleague to see if he's been there, if the take credit card, and ultimately to go there with me. I've worried for nothing! We were welcomed by Super friendly people and excellent food! As I always try to do at my first trip, I've ordered a variety of items from the menu. I've ordered: BBQ sandwich, ribs, hot-served peach cobbler, banana pudding, hotdog with sausage in casing, and pecan pie. Everything was super delicious, but the meat on the ribs were very tender, nicely smoked flavor and just great! On our road trip to Florida we stopped at recast area and decided we needed food. We quickly found B & K BBQ. We all felt like we really lucked out. They were super friendly the service was great. We were able to sit outside which we were looking for with Covid. The food was all amazing. We ordered ribs, chicken and chicken salad with all the sides and enjoyed everything. Then at the last minute decided we needed peach cobbler and so glad we did. It was the best I've ever had. We are planning on making another stop on our way home lol. On the road to the Gulf. Needed dinner. I'm not a big fast food fan... Nearing Clanton. Saw a sign on the side of the interstate for B&K BBQ. Yelped it. Tons of great reviews and it looked like a total dive so we were in. Just off the interstate sits a tiny old dicey shotgun shack. There were literally chickens running around outside. The people were nice. We ordered a slab, banana pudding, and a couple sandwiches. The sauce was kinda sweet. Wasn't a fan. The ribs were smokey and extremely fall off the bone tender. I prefer a little bark and some chew to it. The BBQ sandwich was ok. All of the meat was wrapped in foil and had been cooked much earlier in the day. Possibly the prior day for the pulled pork. My buddies thought the banana pudding was the best thing on the table. Was worth trying. Doubt I'll make it back. read more

Stopped here on our way from Maxwell to Birmingham for a weekend trip. Absolutely great. Not quite five stars just because there's no brisket (Maybe that's an Alabama thing?) but the pork was outstanding. We got the family pack with a pound of chopped pork butt and a half slab of ribs. Sides were cole slaw and beans. Chopped Pork: Great flavor. Good smokiness and not overly salty. Another positive indicator is that it is not served already sauced. The sauce was certainly complementary (More on that later) but the pork stands alone just fine. The only critique I really had was that it was a little dry, but my guess is that it was a result of getting there kind of late in the day. It might be a better idea to wait until the order to chop the pork so it stays on the bone as long as possible and doesn't dry out. Really shouldn't add that much to the service timeline. Ribs: Awesome rub. I would buy the rub by itself...and then try to take it apart to improve mine! Half rack was more meat than I expected. For my taste they were a little overcooked. Not dry, just too tender (Not usually a complaint) but my wife loves them that way and she thought they were awesome. Cole Slaw: Again, very nice creamy cole slaw that isn't swimming in liquid and soggy. Still had texture and good balance of tang and sweet. Beans: If anything they were overseasoned, but I love that kind of taste. I enjoy very bold slap you in the face flavors and that's exactly what these were. Kids loved them too! Finally...the sauce: This is probably the most tomatoey sauce I've ever tasted. It was not bad at all and definitely went well with the meats. It would probably be over the top for beef but was spot on for the pork dishes. I would guess that it isn't a house product, but nonetheless it was good. As far as prices? I think the family pack with pork (Two sides, 1# of chopped pork and bread) was about $19, the half rack was $9. If you wanted the family pack with a full slab it was around $25. Don't remember what their lunch specials were but they did sell bbq sandwich and rib plates as well as a bunch of other random stuff. I would recommend it. We paid cash so I can't speak to whether or not the take cards. read more
