I went to B & D based on a recommendation from someone and their great reviews on Yelp. From the start there were some issues, like telling me the fabric was ordered when I gave them the deposit, only to hear three weeks later that it was not in stock. That was a little disappointing, but they are a busy shop and it's not unusual to not make deadlines with supply chain issues these days. In my experience, it's easy to get 5 star reviews when everything goes well, but real customer service is when things do not go well and you really see how a company stands behind their work. This is my reason for two stars. I had B & D reupholster my couch and loveseat. It was pretty expensive, but the couch has built in recliners and non removable cushions so that probably added to the cost. When they finally were done with them months later, they looked great! That is until a puckering of the fabric started to appear on the middle couch cushion. I immediately contacted Lothar and sent him a picture. He responded quickly and said I could drop off the cushion, but I reminded him that the cushions were not removable. I then waited another couple of weeks without being contacted before I wrote him again. He wrote back quickly to ask where I was located and I told him. Another two weeks went by without hearing from him, so I wrote again. All my texts were courteous and I asked if he had any thoughts yet on how to handle my cushion. Another two weeks went by so I wrote him again acknowledging that he was likely busy, but asked if he was willing to help me with the cushion since we paid $$$ and this was a workmanship issue. He wrote back and said he would come back by and pick up the couch shortly. I was really relieved. They came to get the couch and within a week told me it was done and would be delivered back. I thought that was fast considering how long it took to be done the first time, but really pleased. Imagine my disappointment when Lothar dropped the couch off and said that they had taken it all apart and re stretched the fabric but couldn't fix the puckering. He said the company was out of stock for the fabric so they couldn't reorder it to redo it. A designer friend looked at the before picture and the couch after and said there was basically nothing that was done to the couch. I felt the same way. I called the fabric company and was told there were over 100 yards of the fabric that Lothar said was not in stock. The rep at the company told me that it had not been out of stock in recent months. I tried to contact Lothar again a few times, always respectfully, but have never heard back. Perhaps he was miffed that I checked on the fabric and saw that what he told me was untrue. It was just very suspect how fast their turnaround was and the fact that the puckering looked just as bad as when it went in to the shop for repairs. One picture was taken when the puckering was first noticed and the second after it came back "repaired". To be fair, the puckering in the second picture got worse over the three months before B & D picked it up and returned it. But it definitely doesn't look repaired at all. So, two stars because customer service is really when a company cares enough about their workmanship to make things right read more

We had a pair of bar stools that the original leather had disintegrated on. I searched Yelp reviews for some options to get them reupholstered and came across B&D. Even they could not duplicate the same stitching that was on the original leather I was told what they could do. We were able to pick out our own material and had them do the work. MASTERS AT THEIR CRAFT- I stumbled across them around 9 years ago and had work done. Professionals and work was flawless. This time around I had part of a sectional that was worn and tired. I went in and selected a color and material they suggested for the type of use my couch would get. I had one couch (my nice couch in formal living room) reupholstered by B&D over 5 years ago with wonderful results. Lothar did an excellent job of recovering a Queen Anne chair and ottoman, making 7 lambrequins for our kitchen and family room windows, 3 large cushions for our window seat, and 8 kitchen chair cushions. His assistance with the design was invaluable. His recommendation to enlarge the size of the lambrequins was correct and the change to 3 large cushions from 6 smaller was also correct. He chose the fabric sample books for us which was extremely helpful given the hundreds of books that he has available. We had cushions made by B and D 10 years ago for 16 outdoor chairs and 4 chaise lounges and they all still look new (they are all stored during the winter). Bottomline first: we are totally pleased by the job done by B&D Upholstery. We just had a 25-30 year old sofa, chair and ottoman reupholstered by them. B&D received good yelps and on other review sites so it was a natural to get an estimate from them. I called first and spoke to Lothar who requested photos of the furniture. I emailed them to him and received an estimate within 24 hours (He told me I could have also sent the pictures by phone for a quicker turnaround, but it wasn't as handy for me to do it this way). The estimate was very competitive compared to 3 other businesses I inquired with. My wife and I next went to the shop on a Saturday and met Lothar, who was very nice and professional. We went through the large selection of available fabrics with his help. It's hard to believe you couldn't find one there. We did but it had to be ordered. He said it could take 7-10 days, which seemed reasonable. The fabric came in sooner than that and we scheduled the pick up of our furniture. This was important to us and was included in the price of the job. Note that some shops don't have pick up and delivery which would add to the cost. We settled into our empty living room, but didn't get too comfortable because the furniture was done very quickly (less than 2 weeks). It arrived a couple of days ago and we couldn't be happier. Every seam is cleanly done, they all line up, and the seating feels firmer than it was before. So this was a home run: competitive pricing, quick turn around (total time from our visit to the shop and finished product delivered to our home was 17 days), pick up and delivery, and excellent workmanship. read more

I went in with a small job - new foam in sofa seat cushions. 4 days later I have cushions that make my sofa feel better than brand new. The cushions were not this good the first day the sofa arrived. I used them about two years ago when my roommates dog ate up my upholstered chair cushion! ( no legs, just the seat cushion lol). Weird gus gus- but anyways: they let me select from some off fabric bolts they had on site for a quick fix. Being a designer, I know this usually can take a few weeks to get custom or special order fabric, and another few weeks to repair. B & D had it done in a week.
