I've been buying from this wonderful family for years. Typically, I get cow bones to make broth,…read morebut have also ordered bulk fajita meat for a conference for which I helped cook. The meat: it marinated beautifully overnight in a simple lime-based marinade. The people we cooked for are very food-savvy and said the meat was wonderful. The business: these guys always work with me. They are respectable and have everything when i need it. They had everything all ready to go and exactly as we had talked about when I picked up that bulk fajita order. Hard working ranchers and wonderful people. The quality: this is grass-fed, humanely raised animals. You're going to get more quality and nutritious products from this company. It's worth is, hands down. The bones I get to make my broth makes an amazingly tasty broth that everyone wants :) Keep this family's business alive. We need more of this!

The weight was not listed on the package, even though there was a net weight blank field. Given the…read morelisted $10.50 lb, the $31.19 price means the weight should have been 2.97 lbs. In the ~3 miles from Farmer's Market to home, it lost .82 lbs. It weighed in at 2.15 lbs. While scales may vary, 8/10 of a lb is more than a calibration variance. All other vendors' marked weights have been consistent. While I will smoke this brisket tomorrow and update the review, it will have to be the greatest brisket ever. If it is the greatest brisket ever, I will ask for a refund and continue to do business, but will bring a scale with me. -------------------------------- 21AUG16, I have a theory why they overcharge. I don't expect they get repeat business. The "quality" of the brisket was about equal to an ungraded brisket like at a WalMart Neighborhood Market. I made that mistake once when in a pinch for any brisket. Now I've made a similar mistake with Blt Farms. They tie with WM Market as worst briskets I've had in several decades. A replacement is out of the question, as I am not wasting a day, rub, and mop sauce on this inferior beef. A refund would be nice, but it helps burn the ripoff in memory better. Overcharging and bad quality. 2 strikes in a row. There is no third. Caveat Emptor!

Trying Bar 3 Ranch meat had been on our family's bucket list for years, and finally, this past…read moreOctober, we managed to snag a half cow for this spring. When our date got closer, Jeff sent over the final weight for our share, and it caught me off guard because it was so much bigger than the past shares we've gotten through other local farms. As it turns out, there's a reason. When we picked up our meat, we found Jeff excited to share how he raises and feeds his cows and why, ultimately, his meat is far superior. (He didn't say as much, but as you can see by the photo, it's incredibly clear that there's no comparison.) We learned more about the care and feeding of cows that afternoon than we thought possible but we loved every minute. He was also great with our kids, taking them to see and pet his horses. Afterwards, he even called me to share his favorite recipe for flanken ribs. But how does it TASTE, you ask? As a reformed 25+ year vegetarian, I can't stand the smell of most grassfed beef that has come into this house. (We've done multiple cow shares before through other ranches, all the same - the smell is nauseating.) Bar 3 Ranch, though... totally different. There is NO gamey smell, no gamey taste and my husband gives me the side eye now because he has to share his steaks with me. It's GOOD. Like, REALLY GOOD. Words are probably not going to do this justice, so I'm attaching a photo of the difference between Jeff's meat and our last half cow from another/local ranch. There is just no comparison.
