JW Seafood - specifically when in season, the fresh oysters are amazing! 3. Prairie's Prairies- they have quality French pastries and baked goods. We love their scones, croissants, and their puffs....oh yum! 4. Goodie Dumplings- They make them fresh on site or have frozen to take home. They have everything from veggie, chicken, beef, pork, and seafood! This are so good. It is usually a snack while we walk around and then we take some to go to add to our ramen at home. They add a lot of vendors throughout the year which is fun! They have craft items as well which we have even bought a few items from those booths as well. Unfortunately, the $6 eggs were some of the worst I've ever purchased at a farmer's market (flavorless, barely yellow yolk). Other than that, they had bread, some produce, beef jerky, sweet treats, and some other miscellaneous vendors. Oh and Tong's Dumpling Bar is a star attraction. It's in a large strip mall so parking is easy. That mall also features one of my personal favorites -- JuiceLand -- so it's an excuse to grab a smoothie!

It is quite ironic that Austin farmer's markets in general have very few fruits and vegetables, if any. In Washington state farmer's markets had a huge variety of organic fruits and vegetables (miss Washington state.) A standout vendor was one that was selling handmade cutting boards. I may go back to purchase a cutting board. Yesterday, I had only cash and not enough to purchase the cutting board. I did get a cookie that was a cross between a cookie and biscotti. Very different than anything I have eaten... Interesting little diversion for the day. All the folks at the farmer's market were friendly and very open to sharing samples. The farmer's market had few customers. It was almost like walking through a ghost town....quiet environment.

We ordered a peach, yes, peach and goat cheese pizza along with a margarita pizza to accompany our fresh figs, blackberries, bread, peach & chipotle goat cheese and aged balsamic vinegar...all from the farmers' market. I could easily have added more, but we won't have room to transport it all home when we leave town. They have live music, too, which was very pleasant. The old phrase "take your shoes off and stay a while" has never been more appropriate for the atmosphere of these gatherings. Lampasas County Farmer's Market & Crafts located in Lampasas, a quaint little area with shops centered around what appears to be a government facility. It's relatively easy to find and in a safe section of town. I haven't been to a farmers market in years and now thanks to this event my passion has been rekindled and I want to frequent more of them. Pulling the focus back to Lampasas Farmers Market, after parking I got out my car and immediately my nostrils were hit with a hit of BBQ, courtesy of "End of the Trails BBQ." Since my cravings needed to immediately be satisfied my girlfriend and I made a beeline to the food truck. Fair warning, I don't indulge in big breakfasts but lord have mercy what I got among their assortment of items was outstanding. The brisket, egg and cheese breakfast burrito brought a tear to my eye. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the smoke from the meat filled the whole burrito while the meat was succulent and the cheese brought it all together in a warm and soft tortilla. Next time I go, I'm ordering a "truck load" pardon the pun. Just to note they have all kinds of meats and other filling food offerings so I highly advise making this a priority. Walking around in a dog friendly atmosphere there are tons of shops to check out. Homemade necklaces, 3D printed items like dragons, video game characters and what not, you name it. I believe there's something for everyone here. I saw some professionally made and multiwood cutting boards which I seriously considered for some time. Alas, ole "Betsy" my current cutting board is still going strong so I can't replace her while she's still in her prime. Another temptation I pondered was some fresh produce including huge purple potatoes. Being a former chef, I thought it would look outstanding in a scalloped potato dish. Alas I rebuked my desires even though all the crops available looked outstanding and I'm guessing GMO free! Something we all should consider in this day where all of our food is being negatively manipulated to our bodies demise. Turning the corner I ordered a fresh batch of mini-donuts. I asked the sweet lady what she recommended and she said the cinnamon sugar donuts. They were warm, fluffy and the perfect kick of sugar and spice. I debated this because it's been ages since I had an elephant ear (funnel cake) and it would have been perfect. Alas my choice was equally good. I highly recommend getting these little devils as the bite sized morsels will make you feel like an angel. The next stand I got some pepper jelly, jalapeno & strawberry jam and apple butter. I haven't tried them yet but they look outstanding and I'm supporting these hard-working families in the meantime. My final purchase came from a German pasta stand. Doing my best to converse in German I quickly opted for English as to limit my embarrassment, I found it curious they didn't sell spätzle which is a German potato pasta. That said I got some home-made egg noodles which I'm dying to try. The prices were extremely fair and I can't wait to sample the product. They have a lot of pasta options as well as fragrant breads so if you're in the mood, drop on by. Overall I loved the small-town vibe and offerings from Lampasas County Farmer's Market & Crafts. The place is safe and easy to find. The sellers and patrons are good people and the whole time I felt I was among family. If you're looking for great food, farm to table produce, fun crafts or anything in between I invite you to spend a few hours wondering about. We bought duck rillettes and terrine and fresh eggs, as well. We stopped for breakfast tacos and salsa samples at Blended then moved on to the sourdough stalls. There were multiple sourdough stops and all were low on product by 11 am. On this visit, I didn't see any produce but they did have a plant stand. The vendors were laid back and everyone was pleasant. The venue is compact so great for a dog walk or multi-generational family outing.
