Have you experienced live music at a farmers market? Until I stepped foot into the Texas Farmer's…read moreMarket, I had not. What a pleasant surprise! This was the largest farmers market I have visited in the Austin metroplex specifically in Cedar Park, TX. The vendors were so numerous that you could scan the layout via QR code at the market's entrance. The Texas Farmer's Market had everything you could imagine including composting, regeneration (learned something new), bread, bakeries, meats, just to name a few. Quite honestly, I was overwhelmed initially. Then I paced myself. The market had regenerative eggs. I asked, "how do you get regenerative eggs?" Apparently, you regenerate the chickens by allowing them to roam more loosely and changing their location approximately every 3 days...fascinating stuff! Like any farmers market there were a ton of samples. Surprisingly, there were very few fruits and vegetables. When we lived in Bellevue, WA virtually all the farmers market had mostly organic fruits and vegetables. Service by the various vendors were rather friendly. Next time, I need to allocate more time for exploring. Huge farmer's market...

I get lamb meat too, and sometimes I get something new. I do love the tortillas Mesocano. Made with tallow, or butter, or lard. The butter is great for breakfast. But mostly I like the tallow. I also got rosemary focaccia bread from Texas French bread company. I always feel these ladies that work here are a little rude. They will not sell before 9am. Even though only one is setting up and the other is just standing there. I'm not sure why 2 people can't help 1 customer each. I was being helped while the other watched and there was a line behind me. It's a turn off. I rarely eat bread. Rosemary focaccia doesn't have a rosemary flavor. Pure Luck has their strawberry chèvre again. And I love it. So amazing on crackers. They won 4 awards in 2026! Impressive for sure. And rightfully earned.

Every time we head up to the lake house in LBJ we make a point to come here on Sunday. We load a cooler to take back home with us! Our main stops are: 1. Capital City Ceviche - they make Hawaiian poke just like back home in Hawaii. Since moving to Texas, that was something we haven't been able to find that is good. But here.....OMG the best! 2. JW Seafood - specifically when in season, the fresh oysters are amazing! 3. Prairie's Prairies- they have quality French pastries and baked goods. We love their scones, croissants, and their puffs....oh yum! 4. Goodie Dumplings- They make them fresh on site or have frozen to take home. They have everything from veggie, chicken, beef, pork, and seafood! This are so good. It is usually a snack while we walk around and then we take some to go to add to our ramen at home. They add a lot of vendors throughout the year which is fun! They have craft items as well which we have even bought a few items from those booths as well. Next time you're in Spicewood on a Sunday, be sure to stop in! :)

The Austin Wildflower Honey vendor was super knowledgeable about local honey production and the benefits of honey. I ended up buying some of the honey. Since it was July 4th, the amount of foot traffic was lite. It allowed us concentrated time with the vendors to ask questions and experience their wares.

Speaking of eggs, ample egg vendors. Found 3 at different price points ($6, $7, $9). Unfortunately, the $6 eggs were some of the worst I've ever purchased at a farmer's market (flavorless, barely yellow yolk). Other than that, they had bread, some produce, beef jerky, sweet treats, and some other miscellaneous vendors. Oh and Tong's Dumpling Bar is a star attraction. It's in a large strip mall so parking is easy. That mall also features one of my personal favorites -- JuiceLand -- so it's an excuse to grab a smoothie!

The old phrase "take your shoes off and stay a while" has never been more appropriate for the atmosphere of these gatherings. Lampasas County Farmer's Market & Crafts located in Lampasas, a quaint little area with shops centered around what appears to be a government facility. It's relatively easy to find and in a safe section of town. I haven't been to a farmers market in years and now thanks to this event my passion has been rekindled and I want to frequent more of them. Pulling the focus back to Lampasas Farmers Market, after parking I got out my car and immediately my nostrils were hit with a hit of BBQ, courtesy of "End of the Trails BBQ." Since my cravings needed to immediately be satisfied my girlfriend and I made a beeline to the food truck. Fair warning, I don't indulge in big breakfasts but lord have mercy what I got among their assortment of items was outstanding. The brisket, egg and cheese breakfast burrito brought a tear to my eye. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the smoke from the meat filled the whole burrito while the meat was succulent and the cheese brought it all together in a warm and soft tortilla. Next time I go, I'm ordering a "truck load" pardon the pun. Just to note they have all kinds of meats and other filling food offerings so I highly advise making this a priority. Walking around in a dog friendly atmosphere there are tons of shops to check out. Homemade necklaces, 3D printed items like dragons, video game characters and what not, you name it. I believe there's something for everyone here. I saw some professionally made and multiwood cutting boards which I seriously considered for some time. Alas, ole "Betsy" my current cutting board is still going strong so I can't replace her while she's still in her prime. Another temptation I pondered was some fresh produce including huge purple potatoes. Being a former chef, I thought it would look outstanding in a scalloped potato dish. Alas I rebuked my desires even though all the crops available looked outstanding and I'm guessing GMO free! Something we all should consider in this day where all of our food is being negatively manipulated to our bodies demise. Turning the corner I ordered a fresh batch of mini-donuts. I asked the sweet lady what she recommended and she said the cinnamon sugar donuts. They were warm, fluffy and the perfect kick of sugar and spice. I debated this because it's been ages since I had an elephant ear (funnel cake) and it would have been perfect. Alas my choice was equally good. I highly recommend getting these little devils as the bite sized morsels will make you feel like an angel. The next stand I got some pepper jelly, jalapeno & strawberry jam and apple butter. I haven't tried them yet but they look outstanding and I'm supporting these hard-working families in the meantime. My final purchase came from a German pasta stand. Doing my best to converse in German I quickly opted for English as to limit my embarrassment, I found it curious they didn't sell spätzle which is a German potato pasta. That said I got some home-made egg noodles which I'm dying to try. The prices were extremely fair and I can't wait to sample the product. They have a lot of pasta options as well as fragrant breads so if you're in the mood, drop on by. Overall I loved the small-town vibe and offerings from Lampasas County Farmer's Market & Crafts. The place is safe and easy to find. The sellers and patrons are good people and the whole time I felt I was among family. If you're looking for great food, farm to table produce, fun crafts or anything in between I invite you to spend a few hours wondering about. You'll support local families and might make a few memories in the process.
