I visited B&B for the last time on May 14th, as I am from the Philadelphia, PA area and my son was graduating from the University of Arizona that week. The people working at B&B are fabulous and I am indebted to them for helping me with all my cactus concerns and issues over the past four years. I of course came home with six new additions to my cactus collection and B&B packed them safely and they all survived the plane ride home, the only casualty was losing my bud on my Trichocereus. B&B always had the best cactus selection, reasonable prices and I can't say enough about their helpful staff! I really wish they offered some mail order services as I would be a customer for life. We discussed why I was losing my Old Man of the Mountain cactus I purchased several years ago, and it was one of my favorites. This place should be a national treasure! When i'm in Tucson i make it a point to visit and spend at least an hour or two. There is a lot to take in. You will never find a place with more varieties of cactus and dessert plants than here. i just can't say enough about how special this place is. I went looking for a white rhino and found 3! One of our first plant shops and it was a pleasant one! EXPERIENCE: Parking: Street/pull over the side type of parking. It's pretty limited but not excessively parking so you shouldn't have any issues. Feels: If you past the suburban area. As you take a turn you'll be there. It's outdoors with numerous green houses. The spot itself is big and spacious. They have a lot of various items from succulents to cactus all in different ages of their lives. They have plant decor as well and their house cat wandering around. If you need a break, there's a chair or two in the area. Plants: Succulents, house plants, to produce plants they got it all and all for a reasonable price. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Friendly people and friendly cats. Kyle was great! Having lived in Tucson for a long time, we have definitely frequented this place, especially since it is about 2 miles from the house. This is one of those areas that you could walk around in every month and see something different. It sits on a huge plot of land and you can see cactuses and succulents for what seems like a mile! They have so many options it's not even funny. They also have decorative rock, planters and pots, as well as cute little knickknack type things for your yard. If you need some thing, potted just ask them inside and they will help you. Don't forget to look for the beautiful kitty cat! I'm pretty sure his name is Dexter. He is super sweet. read more

One of the best growers I've ever visited. I used to own a greenhouse and garden center and can tell what they do, how they do it and what they grow is simply top-rate. And you know you're leaving with a plant in good shape because they've been growing it fit years. I live in Seattle and have recently stopped by B & B to browse for some cacti to bring home. Yes, I did find one here, bare-rooted it myself on the last day in Arizona, and it went with me through TSA and on 2 planes just fine. I stopped by a total of 2 plant shops and 6 nurseries, and B & B got the best friendly service out of them all. Not only did I leave with my most favorite cactus (out of the 4 that I bought during the trip), my cactus is also the most healthy and got the most established root system. Pricing is pretty cheap because I've seen more expensive prices both online and most plant shops I've been to in Seattle. So glad I've stopped by and got some good plant care tips. I was "just going to look". I am already juggling more than 50 cactus but I can't pass by a cactus nursery without stopping. This place has a huge variety of cactus, succulents, and tropicals. Their greenhouses are divided and I must admit, I ended up in cactus heaven. Prices were so reasonable that I couldn't resist and had to bring home a few small specimens. I love buying reasonably priced plants in 2 or 4-inch pots that cost less than ten dollars. I am definitely a novice Southwest gardener and if I somehow manage to kill something it's not so painful. There is a cute gift shop with additional plants, pots, and garden décor. The staff is friendly and helpful (even suggesting where I might find a plant they didn't carry) but the feline store manager seemed very complacent. I can't wait for my next Tucson visit. read more

I would love to give a BIG BIG BIG thank you for providing me your wonderful knowledge about taking care of my 6.5 foot Saguaro Cactus that was given to me by a friend who no wonder wanted it (FYI I'm in Las Vegas NV). The wonderful lady over the phone was super helpful and provided great information about soil and watering - I wanted some expert info since I haven't owned a cactus this big before. This place, and especially the folks working there, are AWESOME! It is without a doubt the best nursery I've been to anywhere, ever. First of all, the selection is huge, healthy, and very well priced. In their greenhouses and out front, they have full grown specimen examples that are not for sale but so cool to check out. I'd honestly pay admission just to look around. It is better than most botanical gardens I've ever been too. More importantly, the staff is amazing. They really know their stuff and are super helpful. It is clear that they are genuinely stoked about cacti and succulents and really want to share that with folks that come by. No question is too stupid or too difficult. They will truly meet you where you are (without judgement) in terms of plant knowledge. Furthermore, they have seemingly unlimited patience. Making a sale, much less upselling appears to be the furthest thing from their mind. One guy we were working with put it this way. They support hobbyist collectors/gardeners. They figure that if you have a good experience buying and owning their plants, you are more likely to get hooked and want to come back for more. If they help their customers cultivate an enduring interest and then give them first rate products at a fair price, the business end of things will take care of itself. I was visiting Tucson from California and wanted to get different cactus and succulent for indoor planters at home. This place was amazing! I have never seen so many different kind of cactus and many of which I've never seen before. We ended up not only buying plants but also planters. So I got everything I need here for my indoor planter project. The staff was super nice (including the cat!) and helpful with packaging. We love B and B. Mark, the owner and his staff are very very knowledgeable and helpful. It's a 60 mile round trip for us to drive from Quail Creek, but worth every inch of the drive. They have some very cool decorative rocks of various colors and sizes. Most are imported exotics - even some from Australia! Sure breaks up the genetic, vanilla brown rocks saturated throughout Quail Creek. His special cactus growing mix of compost and pumice (and probably some other secret, proprietary ingredients????) is killer for growing cactus. And it's only $16 for FIFTY POUNDS. Your cactus and succulents will grow like crazy. We make the drive up there just to purchase this special blend. The pottery selection is incredible and nicely priced compared to other sellers. read more

Head about as far east on Speedway as you can go... pass the congestion of Tucson traffic, and keep going towards the Rincon Mountains. Once you pass Houghton, the Rincon Mountains and a waft of clean desert air will welcome you to the Tanque Verde Valley. The feeling of urban sprawl dissipates, and you are now entering a new Speedway. Welcome to the rare strip of Speedway where you'll find sprawling horse properties and Sonoran desert environs more prevalent than storefronts. This beautiful, virtually untouched desert domain is the retail shopping district for B & B Cactus Farm. It's a haul, but it's truly an escape from the city, and once you are out here, you'll realize that the road to heaven (at least in Tucson) may be paved with cactus... This is the ideal place to come for all your cactus cravings, of which I have some serious ones. If you have an aptitude to learn about species that you won't normally find in Tucson, they are happy to explain how to care for these plants to bring you years of enjoyment. They really know their stuff at B & B. Trust me, this is the real deal as far as Sonoran desert landscape nurseries go. if you are looking to add some native (or non-native) cactus and succulents to your landscape environment, the helpful staff of B & B will guide you as to which species may be the right fit for you. If you've never been out this far east on Speedway, it's truly worth the drive. Being in real estate, I go where my business takes me, and yesterday- it took me clear out here. (I'm currently selling a property near Houghton and Escalante). I spoke with Brandon about some of the current species they have. A pretty succulent with bright pink flowers, which is non-native from South Africa (they just got these in), and are selling them for $8. This would be a cheerful and reasonably priced way to brighten up your living space for spring. They also currently have some rare (and large) succulents from South Africa that look like they are from outer space- green at the bottom, then pink, purple, orange, and yellow at the top, that look like an artist threw different colors of paint on the plant. Pretty sure he said they were called "Ice pick," and with good reason. I inquired about the price of a giant yucca, and was told it was $495. Brandon explained that it takes growers years to grow these huge yuccas, as they are grown from seedlings. Sounds to me like the price is justified. I ended up leaving with a couple of Christmas cactus, which were on sale, and set me back under $7. They also have a large selection of pottery and some imported Mexican yard art. I never thought they would lie to me. I'd heard good things about this nursery. Still, they betrayed my trust...I went to this nursery to buy an aloe tree (variety Hercules). This is a fast growing big tree from South Africa. B & B had a nice specimen for sale for $400.00 I was concerned, however, about the plant's winter hardiness. I live in Oro Valley and told the salesman that I did not want to buy the plant without a guarantee that it was winter hardy. I asked several times, "Are you sure it's winter hardy?" "Yes," he replied. Ours here at the nursery have not been burned until the temperatures sunk to 22 degrees." He repeated this again. I again told him that I did not want to spend $400 on a plant that would die in the winter. Well, as you can guess, my tree was completely frozen to death last week at 32 degrees. This beautiful tree, brown and shriveled. I am heart sick, and upset that these plant experts would lie to me to make a sale. Please be aware that these "experts" are bluffing about their expertise, or they are openly dishonest, liars. read more
