A recent move to Tucson sent me on a very extensive search for a source of healthy, organic soil for my backyard vegetable garden. After researching online, and speaking with experts at various garden centers and landscapers, the conclusion: Tank's Green Stuff. The customer service agent at Tank's Green Stuff provided excellent information and answered all of our questions as to what soil would be the best option for our garden. She gave us the cost estimate for the soil and delivery fee with a date and time it would be delivered. We ordered two(2) cubic yards of Tank's Green Stuff - Pro Planting Mix to fill our raised beds. The cost estimate was exactly as described, the delivery was on time. Tim, the driver who delivered the soil, added a bonus to the entire experience. When he pulled up to our house in his big, delivery truck -- our neighbor and her children (two-to-15 years old) came outside to watch. He made the experience, not only accommodating for us, but fun for our neighbor and her kids. He even honked the big truck's horn twice before pulling away -- to much applause by the neighbors!! This is my go-to place for everything I need in my garden and backyard. I recently purchased a truck load of wood chips to cover my soil (to prevent further erosion from rain and wind). In addition, I loaded my truck with their premium potting mix (organic soil for my plants). My plants love their organic fertilizer! Got a pickup truck load of compost for soil enrichment in tree holes and garden beds a while back. Unloading it I perceived it heavier than just organic material and decided to wash out a 5 gallon bucket of it. I found that a full third of the bucket was sand once the organic material washed out. Evidently they cut their compost with sand. Stupid, dirty trick. We all have plenty of sand and rock in our yards and don't need more pulled up from the river bed. This is bad for your plants, not to mention whatever garbage and toxins get thrown in the "composted" debris. Go get a load of cow manure from Golden Rule Dairy if you want to enrich your gardens with organic material. Tank's is a fraud. I was deluded for a few years by this company and am still straining the sand out of the garden beds and tree plots. read more

Tank's Speedway Recycling and Landfill is a rip off. They wanted $100 to dump the carpet and pad from a 260 square foot bedroom. The way they figured that is $20 per roll. There were 5 small rolls. I could have made fewer rolls but the supervisor said it was $100. The ladies in the entry house were nice. The supervisor was likely having a bad day. The charge at La Reales Landfill was $15 with a cover on the load. The ladies in their entry house were also nice. Go to Los Reales instead. read more

Yes, that's right -- my soil had been abandoned and neglected for two years prior to my purchasing the property. Tank's is the reason it is now ALIVE! I bought a bag of their compost blended with pro-coco for potting my indoor peppers and fruit trees. The growth has seriously been impressive- easily several inches of new growth on the grapefruit trees! Their products are essentially crack for plants- blows MircleGro out of the water and you can feel good about using it on any food producing plant. read more

I have always loved what Tanks green stuff provides for Tucson and have used them many times. My most recent encounter however was a nightmare. I ordered a dumptruck load of soil and compost from Tanks. Shota who handled the order instructed me what my costs would be and that there was a fee for delivering. I balked a bit at the price since I live fairly close but agreed to it. I gave instructions as to where it was to be unloaded and 3 phone numbers, mine, both business and cell, my husband's and my next door neighbors. I work but my husband is at home because he is retired. When he woke up he found that our 9-10 foot saguaro cactus had been knocked down by the truck and that the load of dirt had been left in a position completely blocking his ability to get out of our driveway or the garage. Shota called me in the afternoon to let me know what had occurred also. He said that the trucking company (Scott's tractors and trucks and their partner company,4 Hire, owned by a man named David) might be able to come by the following day to move the dirt. I insisted that they come that afternoon even though it was close to 4:00 when as my husband has a heart condition and needs to be able to get out, and I needed to be able to get into my garage to charge my electric vehicle. I heard from David and he agreed to send Scott out to rectify the hill of dirt. They also promised me 2 additional hours of labor to make up for our loss and that they would replace the saguaro and replace the decomposed granite that was scraped away and now filled with dirt. I thought that was pretty great but don't make promises you can't or don't want to keep. They moved the pile of dirt, they replaced the saguaro but when it came to asking about the decomposed granite and using the extra 2 hours of labor promised (which we wanted to use to even the area of the driveway that had a rut from rain runoff) suddenly that was just not going to happen. David came out and gave some lame excuse that he could never match the color of the decomposed granite, as if living with a silt covered dg was a better option. He also claimed that my husband had told Scott that the job was done and done well. When he did encounter my husband at our home it was clear that my husband was as unhappy as I with the decomposed granite situation. He also had the audacity to try to win him over by saying that I was a difficult person to deal with. All in all he was very rude to both of us and we are now left with a silt covered driveway and most of our solar lights that lined the driveway are now broken from what happened. Shota did call earlier in the week to say that the job had been rectified which I explained was incorrect. He was to have contacted David and Scott but I never heard anything more from any of them before I followed up 3-4 days later with my call to David. Shota also said that they had wanted to charge me for the time it took for them to move the dirt the day they came out after the disaster but that he was able to talk them down to the originally negotiated maximum charge for delivery.It has been two days since our not so wonderful encounter with David. I mentioned that I was going to Yelp this in the event that they did not show us professional courtesy but I have not heard a peep from anyone so I am letting other potential customers know Buyers Beware. read more
