Our first visit to Sonoran Landscape Materials on Silverbell N of Grant Rd, we met Matthew how was very helpful in helping us pick out the rock we needed and scheduling delivery. He was very accommodating. We had been told we needed 4 1/2 tons for the pad for our container, but Matthew told us we would need 4 tons. Turned out he was right, we had some extra. Next time we will go with his estimate. We were happy with the price. The delivery was on time and was placed right where we wanted it. My wife and I were in the need for more stone for our property and I called Sonoran Landscape Materials, just off of Grant near I-10 at Silverbell and spoke to Mathew, the co-owner. Mathew asked me what I was looking for and I told him we need more stone for our house in Oro Valley. He asked me if I knew what stone and size I wanted. I had no idea. He asked me to send him a photo of some of the stone, he had me place the stone on a sheet of white paper and place a tape measure next to the stone. I did that and in a few minutes he sent some photos back asking me if one of these was the correct stone and I checked and it was. A few days latter my wife and I drove to his location on Silver Bell and order five tons of stone. We scheduled the job and he had five ton delivered by Sergio, who showed up and dumped the stone in our driveway. The next day Matthew had Daniel scheduled to haul the stone from our driveway and placed around our house. Little did we know at the time that five ton wasn't enough. I called Mathew and said I need two more ton delivered. A few days later two ton was delivered by Sergio and Daniel was scheduled to distribute two tons of stone. The customer service all around was excellent, they kept me posted by text messages and called when they were leaving, the price was fair and Daniel did a great job. He worked for several hours and the job and cleanup was 100%. I would not hesitate to use them again. The rock is amazing. This stone, sitting in Sonorans' yard, is covered with dust. When you get it home and spray off the dust, you see the myriad, mostly desert colors exposed for the first time. The rip-rap appears to have a desert varnish type covering without any sign of clean, freshly broken surfaces. In other words, it looks like the stone has been weathered for thousands of years and simply scooped up and delivered to your house. The exceptions to these earthy colors are the blue-green turquoise traces found in some of the rock. This rip-rap in my gabion baskets ties in all the desert color casts beyond my expectations. . read more

DO NOT hire this company. LITTERALLY, if you are here for reviews this is your sign to find another company. They are rude, will not take ownership for THEIR mistakes and on top of that they will charge YOU to fix a mistake THEY made. They withdraw the money from your account and deliver whatever they have in stock and NOT what you ordered. They will give you the wrong delivery date. They lie in order to make a sale and will not inform the customer that what you are asking for is not in stock. I asked for one inch, they delivered a smaller size. he said, "take a tape measure, there's one inch in there". Completely unprofessional and GHETTO. I was cursed at and hung up on by the supposed "manager" who did not have an inch of customer service knowledge. I'm serious, RUN from this company. When I asked him to be respectful and LISTEN (Because he kept cutting me off) he said, Don't ever call here again and that he would not refund my money. His best defense was "Sue me." They do not accept their mistakes and cannot handle the truth when it's in their face. DO NOT hire this company. Today I went by to check on some 1/4-minus DG material, as recommended by the landscape architect I'd like to work with. No one came out to see what I wanted; the display in front of the trailers was fine for larger stone, but pathetic / non-existent for the minus. The "bins" were filled with mesquite beans so the material underneath was hardly visible -- and it was multi-colored, suggesting that the material that was supposed to be there probably wasn't. In addition, the sandstone "signs" were so faded on some as to be illegible. I called the office to get help. Eventually a young guy slouched out, was absolutely UNhelpful and expressed his total disinterest when I said, at his unhelpfulness, that I'd just go elsewhere. This is a good place to avoid -- at least as of January 2018 -- if you want some service and information. read more

We've been using them to pick up fill dirt and pea gravel for our various properties around town, hauling it ourselves. Reasonable prices, always in and out fairly quickly. If you don't know what you're looking for and are wanting a "gravel concierge" to show you around this is probably not the place for you. read more

I recently purchased 7 loads of material from Sonoran. Yard Manager Mike is a soft spoken, top notch guy. He is pleasant, and principled in all transactions. 5 out of 7 deliveries were made from drivers who were customer friendly and did exactly what I asked, especially to the placement of material. On two other occasions I received material from "Driver Mike" the delivery person from hell. It is important to note that Yard Manager Mike and Driver Mike are two different people. Driver Mike refuses to be cooperative the second he arrives. He argues about locating the material' and at every request has to give excuses (that other drivers never gave), about how he "can't do this, or won't do this" with his truck. The first time he delivered, he dropped 2 spots when I wanted 4. The second time (and the last I might add), it was like talking to the class bully, listening to him whine at every suggestion or request I had. His manner was intimidating, negative, and insulting. The grand finale was observing him have a temper tantrum in the cab of his truck. It was an unbelievable display of some of the poorest customer service I have ever experienced and as you can guess, 24 tons of material went back to Sonoran. Sonoran overall gets a D and that's just because of "Yard Mike" pulling it up a notch. Your transaction with Sonoran could result in dealing with lazy ineptitude from an individual that has some of the the poorest human and customer service skills on the planet. I asked to talk to the manager at Sonoran about this and was told, "It probably wouldn't do any good". Sounds like ineptitude starts at the top. With 40 to 50 more tons to go, the competition will have my business. What is that old saying? Now I remember: "Professionalism pays" read more

The guys at Sonoran Landscape Materials were all great to work with - they are accustomed to amateurs like me as well as professionals. They have displays set up of the various types and sizes of landscape rock they carry. They also have a very clear price list that helps sort out your options. Ringing up the order was easy and they accept credit cards. Delivery met my needs, but could have been the next day. The delivery guys was very careful and offered suggestions about placement that respected my brick driveway. I live just five miles away, so delivery is free if you have 8 tons, but still very reasonable if you have less. I'll be back for my next project! read more

A small portion of my acre-plus lot was cleared for construction in 2013. A portion of the lot surrounding the house was covered with pea gravel, supplied by Sonoran Landscaping. The first year here (2013-2014), I noticed a lot of small, round-leaved plants growing close to the ground. I tried attacking them with a Roundup pump sprayer, but after a while, I couldn't keep up with them. I wasn't too concerned since, as I said, they were small, and close to the ground. But the next year, they sprouted up into big, ugly alien-looking plants a foot tall. What a blight. There were hundreds of them, on their way to thousands. I have been fighting them ever since, even trying pre-emergent herbicides. They have been identified them as "skeleton weed," a species not native to this area (I had noticed that they were concentrated in the area where the pea gravel was spread, and I don't see any sign of them on the rest of my acre-plus property (nor anywhere in the desert around here). I have concluded that my property must have been "seeded" by the contaminated pea gravel from Sonoran Landscaping Materials. When I contacted Sonoran, they denied that the seed contamination came from their pea gravel. But as I said, you can walk the rest of my acre-plus lot and not find any skeleton weed growing anywhere. So draw your own conclusions. read more
