I'm surprised to say that I've lived in Bensonhurst my whole life (up until a few months ago) and I have never been to B & A. Now seeing it, I realize that I've seen it before, but guess I just never went in. That was my bad. Finally got here over the weekend on a rainy day with the husband and I'm glad I did. I came here, like so many others, from the mouth watering Instagram pictures and was almost scared away by the differences Yelpers posted. When you first walk in there is a cashier to the left and a long display of uncooked meats to cooked and ready to eat foods. On display above are signs with signature sandwiches you can choose from or you can have them make you something. I was first approached by Frank, super nice guy and may be the owner or at least the main butcher. He seemed to be the one in charge and handling things like large orders and questions from other staff. I had the pleasure of being helped by Jose. He was super nice and took his time with my order. I never felt rushed or pressured from him. I got a sandwich I saw on Instagram, but not on the menu with speck (imported prosciutto), arugula, tomato and balsamic glaze on a panini. I didn't want the goat cheese, but didn't realize there was no cheese - that was my bad (thankfully my husband bought some fresh mozzarella). Then at the last minute, I decided to go for the roast beef sandwich as well, but I told him that I wanted to eat it later so he helped me make it with gravy on the side and told me the best way to heat it up. He was great! Oh and threw in a couple of rice balls/macaroni balls for me to try! So so nice! Paul helped my husband and it was the same deal - super nice, took his time, never rushed my husband. When we got home to eat, my sandwiches when I finally ate them all, were delicious and well made. Not as overwhelming looking as Instagram, but good and yummy sandwiches. The sauces, marinara and pesto were very yummy and went well with the mozzarella in carrozzi. The zucchini sticks were good and so was the chicken parm and pretty much everything we got. It also lasted us for some days! B & A gave us a shopping experience and made it enjoyable rather than a get in, get out, next feel. That mozz is the classic "fior di latte" with that unique sweet dairy flavor and texture that makes your teeth vibrate! Their hot roast beef hero with mutz and gravy is damn near spot on perfect. Their sausages and other prime meats are the best. Their salsiccia Barese rings that I cook on the BBQ are truly one of my favorite foods on the planet! I've never actually been to B&A, but since quarantine started, I've ordered from them via Mercato three times. All three times, everything I ordered was delivered and all the meats were super fresh. Never received any bad meat from them. The prices for steaks are a bit steep, but they're really, really delicious. They also have a bunch of pantry items as well, so if you're low on eggs, milk, flour, pasta, etc., they have it! Delivery is made via Doordash, so you get notified when it's on it's way and when it's been delivered. They also do a mean prosciutto and mozz sandwich. When my friend first showed me the instagram for B&A Pork Store I wasn't sure what to make of it and when I looked them up on Yelp, it made my confusion worse. I wasn't sure why the store would be listed as a butcher and also sell paninis and arancini. We eventually made our way there while on the way to do some grocery shopping for Christmas Dinner. Upon walking in, all my doubts and confusion had dissolved. Half of the store is a well stocked butcher and the other half sells cooked food and sandwiches, and somehow it all works. Even right now I am still amazed at how well B & A Pork Store functions. I was so thankful that my friend talked me into coming here. I was desperately hunting for a custom cut porterhouse and my normal butcher had already run out. B & A was thankfully able to accommodate me with a custom 2inch cut porterhouse. Although I had wished the filet side would have been a bit bigger, I was happy to get one at all. The rest of the butchery cabinet looked very well stocked and very fresh. Although B&A isn't close enough to me to become my permanent butcher, I would definitely suggest it to people who live nearby. The cooked food section of B & A also seems extremely promising and is definitely going to warrant a second visit from me. We had decided to split the chicken pesto panini and an arancini. The panini was definitely sized to share as we were both satisfied after finishing it. The arancini was light, fluffy and cheesy, exactly what I need in this classic Italian staple. B&A is a neighborhood staple. Ask any of your friends who live in the area, and I bet you their Italian moms have been here. Of course, with a name that includes "Pork Store" in it, they have quality meats. Things like sausage pinwheels, fresh pork chops, and of course, steaks. But what we came here for on this day were the sandwiches. #10 is the way to go - it's the hot homemade roast beef with mozzarella and gravy. It's so good. Well, probably not for my cholesterol, but it tastes so good. It's inevitable that you'll get comparisons to Lioni's sandwiches (B&A's #10 is pretty similar to Lioni's #52, for instance). I have to admit, I ike the sandwiches at Lioni's better (they're bigger and they offer a much wider variety, almost to ludicrous levels). But B&A has you covered for the rest of your shopping needs and their service is better. You can buy deli meats, every variety of olive under the sun, house made lasagna, meatballs, pasta salads, and arancini/mac & cheese balls. They also have shelf stable goods, and a freezer section. You could conceivably do all your Sunday dinner shopping all in one stop. Only thing I'll fault them on is their system of taking orders. If you rely on people to queue up in an orderly fashion, without actually knowing who's next, you'll run into problems. But the people behind the counter are nice enough.
