Stumbled across this place while searching for a pub. We decided to go for Italian food and were pleasantly surprised. Food was good. We had the spaghetti veneziana, tagliatelle salmone, and penne pollo. We topped it with some cider, white wine, and chocolate torte for dessert. The waitress we had was pretty good and quick with the service. The food was flavorful and delicious. The ambiance of the restaurant was also nice for a dinner meal. This was a good spot to have dinner on our first night in London. Make sure you call ahead and make reservations. We didn't make reservations, but they sat us right away. Lovely Italian restaurant, the menu is well balanced with pasta, pizza, risotto and a selection of other mains and sides. As it was a particularly hot day it was a lovely escape from the heat (the Waterloo bridge arches make the inside of the restaurant cool (both in temperature and in terms of decor). I enjoyed my pizza very much and it was quite filling and so did everyone else with their respective meals. The only thing that I was not sure about was that the egg on the pizza was boiled and cut in 4, when I thought it would be one of those that they crack open on the pizza and it cooks with it. Just in case you wanted that, that's not it. The desserts were very tasty too, I recommend the hazelnut ice cream (tartufo something) as it was delicious and the chocolate orange tart if you are a fan of chocolate oranges. In general it's a good dinner option in Waterloo and you also get to escape the big chain restaurants that the area is full of. read more

After being in Paris for 4 days, thus was our first meal here that did not include steak and fries. What a breath of fresh air. We had the rigatoni that was pretty good, had a spicy kick to it. I visited midweek for lunch as a friend and I were looking for somewhere close to the station to grab food and catch up! The exterior of the restaurant looked inviting and the menu sounded delightful so in we went. There is a bar area with a good amount of comfortable looking seating as you first enter, then you walk to the back and to the left to get the more formal dining area. The restaurant is under railway arches and it's beautiful inside! We were pleased to spot they offered a lunch deal of £10.50 for any pizza or pasta and a drink (including wine, beer or soft drink). I had the goats cheese ravioli with a creamy chive sauce and it was so good! Really flavoursome, though the pasta was a little too al dente for my personal taste. My friend had the lasagne which looked heavenly and we shared a garlic bread (though I ended up not eating mine as it was a little too strong)! We then shared the affogato plus the chocolate orange cheesecake for dessert. Both were perfect. The affogato is fairly simple but was attractively displayed and the cheesecake was simply divine! Yesterday through work I was in London. Trying to catch the train back to Manchester, I caught up with some friends at Waterloo and went to Azzurro. I ordered Arancini as a starter and Carbonara for the main. The food was great but I have to say the carbonara wasn't authentic as it contains cream rather than just eggs and parmesan. The arancini was cooked just right as the risotto was not stodgy but with golden crispy breadcrumbs. The tomato sauce with parmesan was just right as it gave a well balanced flavour that wasn't overly salty, though I wish the dish had more than 3 balls. It is value for money for the main as you do get a lot of food especially for London price. In terms of service, it was ok but it could be improved as they forgot our dessert, which nearly made me miss my train as I arrived 5 minutes before leaving. We came for lunch on a rainy day at Christmas time and were seated near the Christmas tree, which pleased our child. I ordered the Azzurro salad, which had avocado, beets, nuts, etc., and was lovely. My son had lasagne and was happy with the food and our child loved her pasta with red sauce and meat. The bread basket had a nice variety of warm breads. Service was attentive. I always come here after going to the BFI IMAX as it's a convenient stagger from the bar there and then on to Waterloo station. The chairs are surprisingly comfortable which is a good job as I had just sat through a good three hours of Hobbit. Lots of fun but I was fairly numb from the waist down. The service is always pretty quick if not a bit 'pouty' from the young Italian staff, but quick is welcome when all you've had for the last few hours is the disgusting waft of someone else's popcorn. My dad had a pizza azzurro della casa (ham, pepperoni, mushrooms, onion, jalapeno peppers and olives) which was thin and crispy and lovely. My baby had spaghetti alla veneziana which she ate in record time, despite the fluffy earphones. I had risotto alla pescatora - another thumbs up. Mama had salmone et aneto although this Italian restaurant had run out of spinach at 6pm which meant she had to have rocket instead...and if you're anything like me you think rocket is what grows between the cracks on the pavement. Still, chocolate mousse, lemon cheesecake and pancakes with strawberries and raspberries all washed down with a nice bottle of sauvignon blanc and the total came to £85 which is a bargain if you ask me. One thing that bugs me about restaurants in general though....'an optional 10% service charge is added to the bill'. No, optional is when you choose to put it on, not when you are forced to pay it whether you think the service is good or not because you're so damn British that you can't bring yourself to commit the hostile act of removing it. A minor gripe and not limited to this restaurant alone, definitely worth a visit although the toilets appear to be designed with hobbits in mind. read more

This place has plenty of potential although if I'm honest the food has never really blown me away. The location is perfect, near to Waterloo station on the way to Southbank, and the interior is great as the restaurant is underneath the bridge so lots of exposed brick and archways. Their lunch special is pretty good value. approximately 7 pounds for any pasta or pizza + a drink. On their regular menu, the pasta and pizzas are 7 to 10 pounds. I tried two different pasta - the tagliatelle pollo picante (spicy chicken) and the penne pollo e funghi (chicken and mushroom) in cream sauce. Both were okay (bland like london food), though I definitely preferred the cream sauce over the red sauce. I got a pineapple juice go to with it, which made me very happy as most places don't have pineapple juice (and certainly not free with meal). Their desserts are actually quite good. I had a coffee and banana cake that i thoroughly enjoyed. This place is also great for kids. They have a kids menu that has a large picture for you to colour in, and some simple word search puzzles. They give you a box of crayons. How do I know this? Not because I went there with a kid or anything..unless you count my boss and my coworkers to be kids, as we had a ball colouring in the menus we took from tables that had kids who left their menus behind, which brings me to the fact that the atmosphere is fairly relaxed there and the servers are very friendly. They even gave us our own kids menus so we can colour them :P The place is bigger than it looks. The front looks small, but it ends up being huge in the back. read more

And our waiter was so amazing, that definitely figured into our enjoyment of the place. We visited late in the evening for dessert & coffee after experiencing the London Eye, and were served by a charming young man originally from Spain. He was absolutely delightful & is definitely an asset to the restaurant. I wish that we'd noted his name, as I would have liked to pass along our thanks to the management. When a young lady brought our desserts out, she noticed that our table was wobbly & immediately took action to fix that without our prompting. Our young waiter, when I remarked how much I liked the coffee, went out of his way to find out what kind it was. The desserts were lovely, but it was the staff that made the difference for us! Sadly the restaurant has opted for quantity over quality, cramming as many tables into the space as humanly possible in order to maximise turnover. The service was scarily speedy, to the extent that our food arrived within about five minutes of ordering it, even before our drinks had had the chance to be poured at the bar. The speed at which the food left the kitchen could only lead us to the conclusion that they definitely don't cook their food to order. This was such a disappointing meal! Despite a nice looking venue and fairly interesting menu, it turned out a bad evening. Service was worse than bad, it was almost non-existent. Waiters weren't rude, they just didn't come to our table at all! In the end we moved our plates with half eaten food to another table ourselves, after giving up waiting for service. The pizza was just about ok, but a steak had to be sent back as it was tough as a door knob! To their credit they didn't argue and didn't charge for it. But does that mean they already knew it was terrible, I wonder...? Despite our poor experience we decided to move to the bar area for another glass of wine. The girl behind the bar was really lovely and you can't go that wrong with bottled wine, so it all ended on a positive note. Very disappointing experience. Attended with a group of 8 friends on a Saturday afternoon. Adjacent table was left with dirty plates on for the duration of our meal, and service seemed disinterested at best. I had olives as an appetiser, a dish which even I can prepare to perfection, yet theirs tasted like they'd been left out for a week or six. I had the seafood pasta for main course, which was unspectacular, prawns were rubbery. Some friends had pizza, which was better but still inferior to your average Pizza Express. Had dinner here after a long day of sightseeing. A family of 4 and had a pleasant experience. Plenty of choices with starters, pasta dishes, and pizzas. Waitstaff walked by with something that smelled so garlicky and delicious, we asked her to bring some to us. It was their garlic bread and it was delicious! We ordered the garlic bread and the calamari. Both dishes were tasty and definitely not lacking in garlic!
