This was one of the best experiences with Mexican food that we've had in Maine so far, and definitely top dog in the Westbrook/Windham/Gorham area! We came for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, expecting it to be packed. It was actually pretty quiet and service was exceptional. There were a couple of drink specials that we had to try - a Mexican Espresso Martini with honey tequila and cinnamon simple syrup and a spicy pineapple margarita. Both were amazing. Chips were warm and salsa was good. After we ordered, the food came out quick - shockingly so. Both my chicken tamale and Chile relleno were smothered in this amazing red sauce with nice chile flavor. The relleno had a very satisfying cheese pull and reminded me of what I used to get in Southern California. The chicken in the tamale was a little dry, but I used the red sauce to solve that problem real quick. The dish that I was a little disappointed in was the birria taco - the consomme was very oily and didn't have that depth of flavor that you expect from this dish. There also wasn't nearly enough cheese. The braised beef inside was very very tender and tasty, though. The Pollo Sinaloense - a thinly pounded and breaded chicken breast topped with chorizo and cheese - was unique and delicious, and nicely balanced with a little salad and Spanish rice. The restaurant itself is bigger than it looks from the outside and the booths are nice and comfy. Overall, this place exceeded our expectations. They seem to have a great happy hour and a huge menu, so we can't wait to return to try some more! read more

Got a fried talapia with rice and avocado salad and it was delicious. The whole fish was deep fried and was delicious. The avocado salad had fresh guac and I simply just love this birthday meal for myself. My family said the margaritas here are good as well. Definitely will return and next time try their tacos de birria. Service was equally great and someone came out and said my fried fish will take longer thus the whole table meals would come out later too so everyone can be served together. Personally next time if I get the fish again , I'll let them know that I don't mind waiting while my family eats first. I can always munch on their delicious complimentary nachos and home made salsa. We've heard great things about the take out food here, so we had to stop in and try it. Atmosphere is friendly, festive and musical. Menu's are out front and you can sit anywhere. Great Mexican place in Gorham. They have a large bar, large dinking room and then also a counter where you can quickly order take out (kind of like Chipotle). Their margaritas are amazing! I got a coronarita and it was really good. Also their food is really great too, decent prices with great quality food. You get chips and salsa to start. I will be back for sure! read more

This place is very hit or miss for me. It really depends what you order and who is working. The burritos can at times be way too wet or have cold add-ons. The music can be a bit loud and the patrons are very lively so be prepared for that if it's not your scene. I love the colorful decor in here and it's a good downtown location. read more

Have been there multiple times. We went for lunch and ordered for the lunch menu. Staff was a bit rude. They mixed up our orders (neither of us had a chicken dish but we received chicken enchiladas), and the food was not their normal standard. Basically said don't worry about it and eat what you get. There was no one else in the place so that wasn't the issue. Only keeping them at a 3 star because we have had good experiences in the past. read more

We went for dinner last night and had the enchiladas supremas, street tacos and azulejo burrito. The burrito was lukewarm at best and underwhelming in ingredients. Tacos with ground beef were dryer than a bucket of sand. The enchiladas looked cool with the sauces matching the Mexican flag. The enchiladas were lukewarm as well. I probably should've said something, but working in the industry for 20 years I knew it wouldn't have mattered. Azul is very clean inside and the service wasn't bad, but overall it's just a overpriced chipotle without parking in downtown Gorham. read more

I wanted to update my review after having many, many meals from here, and it's still a 5 star! As much as I have enjoyed the Jalisco burrito, I've moved on - my top two favorite things besides their burritos: Taquitos Dorado's & the Huevos con Chorizo dinner - they are SO good. While I still absolutely recommend the burritos & birria tacos, this place has become a staple of Mexican comfort food for me and I've definitely explored the menu. So much flavor, and you really taste the love. This is one of the very few places that consistency has never been an issue, I'm so thankful for that! Not one bad meal, not one bit of gristle, not one bad experience, period. Always top notch service regardless the time of day! That is something I really appreciate. I (more often than not) have Azul delivered, but on occasion I'll eat out here - both experiences have always been great, helpful friendly staff, clean establishment, always quick delivery. read more

Happy to have a Mexican restaurant like Azul in Gorham. Lots of on street parking out front and they also have a dedicated parking lot. The restaurant is located in a multi use building that includes at least 2 other businesses but the door is easy to spot. When you enter, Azul is brightly decorated with typical Mexican restaurant flair and looks nice. There were lots of tables, a bar with tvs and a food prep area where you could pick up to-go orders. My husband and I each had a giant margarita which was good. It was not particularly strong, likely due to its size. We each ordered a different type of burrito. The burrito carne asada was better than the Azul burrito. The Azul burrito was missing the queso it was supposed to come with, which could have made the difference. The carne asada burrito was doused in sauce and it had to be eaten with a fork and knife. Overall it had more components and tasted fresher. Glad to have tried this place! read more

We tried Azul the first day they opened for curbside pickup, during the COVID-19 craziness. The man who answered the phone was very helpful with the questions I had about the menu. When we went to pickup, the man bringing out food was hustling! They were doing a heck of a business! Again, we were treated kindly and with a smile. I heard nothing but awesome things about quality and portion sizes. When I saw my bowl, I was a little disappointed with the size considering the amount of ingredients that were in it. I thought some of the toppings were skimpy and the lettuce was a lot of hearts. I wish they had some sort of mexi-dressing because even with the avocado sauce (mashed avocado) and mango salsa (really just a couple tiny pieces of chopped mango) the bowl seemed dry. Even the chicken wasn't really overly seasoned. I have the same critique for the burrito. It needed a little something: dressing, more juice with the meat, something. The size however, was generous. The chips and salsa were delicious. Overall, I felt like I could make a similar quality bowl and burrito at my house. Maybe it had something to do with the launch and craziness of night one, but I just didn't get as wowed as I expected after hearing so many great reviews. I will update this once I go back for food, this was just a drop in for a margarita while the kiddo was in dance class. The atmosphere of this place is great. With a walkout counter (think chipotle) for the size in the space it makes way more sense than what the previous restaurant had set up. The bar is a bit small, and it was confusing where you were supposed to order the drink. I would suggest a hanging sign that states order here or something along those lines. The bartender and the other workers were very friendly and the margarita was good. They had many frozen margarita options as well, But we just went with the traditional rocks, salt, and lime. 3.5 stars. I tried this restaurant for the first time tonight, and we are still in the midst of "COVID weirdness", so I don't know if the set-up is different than it normally is. While the staff was friendly, I did not care for the "fast casual" dining style of ordering at the counter. The outside seating is nice, but it was annoying to have to bring everything out ourselves. Again, not sure of things were different due to Covid, but as a semi self-serve setup, having to ask for EVERYTHING, ( napkins, ketchup, straws, silverware etc...) Was frustrating! All that said, the food was good. The french fries were surprisingly great (since that's not their specialty). The tacos were good, but the tortillas were WAY too small for the fillings, making them quite messy. The shrimp was delicious and perfectly cooked, but I had to wait awhile for it (awkwardly standing near the counter). All in all, despite the tasty food, it was expensive for the service style. I'll probably only return for yummy casual margaritas not a "dinner out". Take out would be fine as well. read more

Great late lunch here today! Love their warm chips and delicious salsa! I had Birria Tacos...they were fascinating and delicious! My companion had Fajita Quesadilla and loved that, too. The food was all fresh and wonderful, flavorful without being super hot, and the place is bright and beautiful, and sparkling clean. Next time we'll have to try the margaritas or other libations.
