It's been a while since we ate at the "old" Azteca, out in the boondocks. The location looked bunker-like with no windows and a little sketchy, but the food was always amazing. I ate at the new location yesterday, bringing a group of friends after photographing our dogs in the poppy fields all afternoon. We were starving! The new location is really nice and airy with lots of windows. The service was fast and attentive - they kept the chips and salsa coming. The food was really good. I wasn't a fan of the house margarita, it wasn't horrible, just average. Other than that, I would definitely eat here again. read more

Always great food and great service when we come here. Today I finally had the Caldos 7 mare, takes about 30mts to prepare, so be sure to call before you arrive and it will be ready in time for dinner! First time at the new location....what happened??? The old place looked warm, cozy and inviting....now the new place looks like a diner. The decor is confusing. Diner type booths, 80's type lighting, Mexican decor, a big divider/wall in the middle of the room so you can't see the bar....strange. Chips (nice toasty warm) and salsa was good. Got a couple of draft beers and 2 shots of patron. We ordered the beef soft taco and enchilada combo and taquito ranchera combo. Everything was good except for the taquitos...the corn tortilla was stale and chewy. Our bill came out to $51 before tip. Not bad. read more

Although this place is pretty far out from the rest of the Antelope Valley it's clear how they stay open. My cousin recommended this spot to me and she was right. The service and authenticity are there. If not for the distance I would come here more often(I've only been once). The only complaint I have is that the rice lacked salt but everything else was exactly what we were looking for. read more

For the first time, we placed a take out order for 4 people at the Azteca Mexican Restaurant. The bill was $88.46. This is the most we've ever paid for carry out Mexican food in the Antelope Valley. Got the food home and one fourth of our order was missing! l called the restaurant and the customer service was terrible. Drove all the way back to the restaurant (8 + miles each way).and the employee had the food made up and waiting for us. However, the tamale that we had to drive back and pick up, was reheated to the point of being hard and rubbery! It was disgusting! Also, we had gotten a large side of salsa and chips and we asked specifically for mild salsa. The salsa was NOT mild. There was no apology for their mistakes and they did nothing to make up for this terrible inconvenience to us. One lady there, who appeared to be a manager or co-owner, was extremely agitated and approached us with a very rude demeanor. You would have thought it was all our fault. read more

I was hoping for a 5 star meal but it wasn't happening. The wait staff were very responsive and on top of it. The biggest downfall was the # of flies in the restaurant. I have never been a fan of restaurants that can't control the vermin. The food was ok but nothing special. I was disappointed with the chile relleno as it did not taste fresh. A lot of restaurants make them ahead of time and this tasted to be that. I doubt that I will return with so many other Mexican restaurants around. read more

We have driven by this so many times coming up from Tehachapi and it's ALWAYS packed. We finally had a chance to go by and man I can see why it's packed! This food was bomb! The chips and salsa were fresh and hot, the soup was delicious and the dinners we got were so filling. Everything was hot and fresh and so yummy. There is hole in the wall, and then there is this restaurant. This place is definitely "quantity over quality" type of place. Extremely dim, I guess so you can't see how dirty everything is and how gross the food is. I had a Michelada, could not even taste the beer. I also ordered the campechana cocktail, what I received was a bowl of water with no abalone, the tiniest pieces of octopus and about 6 itty bitty pieces of shrimp, oh and it was WARM. I have no idea why people are calling this place "authentic" nothing authentic about it. Slapping a tortilla and avocado to your food doesn't label the food authentic. Get your tetanus before stepping foot in this nasty place. I really hope I don't get any food poisoning. read more

Went here on the recommendation of some friends who have been going for years and we loved it. Chile Colorado plate was big as delicious. Note that this review applies to the new location just down the street from the old one. The new one is in the Van Dam Farms strip mall across from the gas station. New location is very contemporary, big bar, and I hear they are going to have karaoke. Staff told us that the old location would remain open until 2:00pm only for breakfast. It doesn't look like the new location does breakfast dishes if I recall. We peeked in the old location and will definitely be trying it out, very casual, rustic, authentic decor, very different from the new location. read more

My husband, a former employee of Antelope Valley Press was made aware of them via the food entertainment person. I was iffy at first because finding Mexican food that is as authentic as my Nana's was almost impossible out here in the A.V. Imagine 1987 and only two restaurants with "Mexican" food! It was over! lol Anyway, hubby said its supposed to be good, he begged me to try and man is is fab! The menudo and albondigas are pretty much dead on to my Nana's. I actually got a bit emotional after my first bite. No kidding. The food is fantastic and the service is very friendly and welcoming. Some may say its awful, but this place is almost consistently packed with hungry people. Its worth the wait too! The only thing that is missing is homemade tortillas de harina. ;) Yeah, they are far out into the westside seeming to be out in the middle of nowhere, but we are all out in the middle of nowhere too, so what the heck. :) *My Nana would tell us "if the beans and rice arent good, then the food won't be good (Giggle giggle)." We've driven past this restaurant for several years, but from the outside appearance we weren't sure we would want to try it. There are always lots of cars in the lot and I kept hearing good things about it. So. I checked the ratings on here and decided we should give it a try. Absolutely love this place. Wife and kids loved it as well. They restaurant is pretty clean and decent sized. They have a full bar if you prefer to sit there. Food selection was great. They have the typical mexican restaurant selections including seafood. Their drink menu has a good amount to choose from. The service was excellent and the servers were pretty attentive even if they weren't your particular server. I order the appetizer sampler and it was a ton of food. The salsa was the best I've had in the AV. The place is kind of in the middle of nowhere but it's easy to find. Will definitely come back here. read more

Came here for Valentines Day. My wife wanted Mexican food, so I looked up on Yelp for the best in Lancaster. We drove 25 miles from our house based on other Yelp reviews and they were right on about this place! Well worth the drive for authentic Mexican food. The shredded beef was so good, I'd go back just for that alone. I'm not a big fan of Spanish rice, but I finished all...in fact, there was nothing left on my plate. :) They're literally in the middle of nowhere, but we'll be back again real soon. read more

You get there and chips and drinks are served You wait and wait and wait till someone finally takes your order. After years of saying...next time we go out let's try that place...we finally remembered. Now I'm pissed we waited so long! Came in just after 5pm on a Friday night. It is a small restaurant so it can get crowded easily, which it was, however we were seated right away. Menu seemed typical Mexican style, and we decided to play it safe for our first visit, although several menu options sounded great. I ordered the taco and chile relleno combo and my husband ordered two taco combo. Both came with rice and beans. My husband is severely allergic to dairy and ordered no cheese. We also ordered a cup of tortilla soup and albondigas soup. (It is only $1 extra) Food came fast, soup was great. Best part was there no cheese on my husbands food. I really appreciate when staff take the time to accommodate a patrons order. Food was also HOT! Not sitting under some warmer or on a counter waiting for us! Staff was super friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back. This is now one of our favorite spots, considering I don't like any Mexican food here in the AV! Great job guys! read more

Having lived in the Acres, we have eaten at this restaurant since it opened & recommended it to many. Sadly, our experience tonight has changed that. As we finished our chips, we found an ant in the basket. We were willing to overlook it. But then the server brought a Shirley Temple with a dead fly floating on top. We noticed it as soon as the drink was set down, but somehow the server missed it. We asked to speak to the manager. A young woman came out and we told her what happened. Although she said she was sorry, she went on to explain that because of their location "out there" it's hard to keep the flies out. And they have ants too but they have an exterminator so she doesn't know why that happened and then asked if we wanted to drink replaced. When we told her we found it upsetting, she said I will be happy to discount the bill. She also mentioned she was not the manager and that her dad and uncle were the owners and that they were in the back cooking. The bill was presented with no discount. When I asked the server he took it back. Our total bill was $72 and they gave us a $7 discount. I own a business, although it is not a restaurant. First of all, if the customer asked to speak with me, I would've dropped everything to see them, not sent someone who was obviously untrained in overcoming a serious customer problem. And I would've at least comped half the bill, if not the entire dinner. So the circumstance was bad enough; but the way it was handled left us feeling less than valued as customers. It will be a long time before we ever return. And sadly, the next time someone mentions Azteca, we will be telling them the story. read more
