Lou sent Chris out the following day and diagnosed the air handler motor burned out. They checked with Trane and the part was covered under their warranty but we would still need to pay for the installation. Lou ordered the part from Florida, which arrived on Thursday, Chris said they got it right from the delivery truck and they came right over to install it and a couple hours later, we finally had cold air blowing again! Lou, Chris and the entire AC Squad were great and we highly recommend them. I would have gladly paid to overnight the part myself or maybe someone could have picked up that bill, but we waited 3 days for it to arrive. Other than that, no real issues, thanks AC Squad! Looking forward to using them for our regular AC maintenance.

Lifesaver on a Saturday…read more We were really in a bind--our AC went out on a Saturday, and by the time our home warranty put in a request, all of the contractors they worked with were already closed for the day. Meanwhile, our house temperature was climbing to 90°, we have kids, pets, and a husband who works from home--leaving wasn't an option. Out of desperation, I called Pat directly. He answered right away, and was able to catch one of his technicians before they left for the day. They were at our house within 30 minutes! The technician was super friendly, professional, and calming, which helped so much because I was already stressing hard about potentially being without AC all weekend. He diagnosed and fixed the issue in under 30 minutes, and just like that, we had cool air again. 1: Service tech shows me a video of my drain pan in the attic under the furnace of a split unit…read moreheater where in this video there is insulation in my drain pan, Instead of him removing the insulation he washes it down my PVC overflow drain that was attached to the pan. He said he blew it out with some sort of canned air? its approximately 30 or so feet long and not sure it had enough pressure to clear the line. 2: After completion of the maintenance of my heating unit the tech informed me that the capacitor was low and close to failing. I asked him for a quote on replacing it and the company came back with a grand total of $526.00. This item is at most- best product made about 30.00 and can buy it on line for half that cost if you go the cheaper version which makes the labor charge around $480.00 after taxes etc. this item to replace is remove side panel, take picture of wiring placement and position of capacitor. make sure all electricity is removed from exterior of capacitor so not to get zapped. then remove wiring approximately 6 wires on connectors. Remove capacitor from strap with 2 zip screws. replace capacitor with new capacitor, put wires back on connectors and close panel. That simple. Approximately 30 minutes maximum for average joe tech. If they charge show up fee then 1 hour labor is that $400.00 $450.50 dollars worth of work? You make the call. 3: The tech told me as well that there was no overflow safety device. They wanted 356.00 to install one of these devices which cost approximately $15.00 to $ 50.00 give or take depending what you buy. This unit is not exactly necessary as long as you have a secondary back up drain line for safety coming off the drain pan which has a drain line over your window so when there is a problem you will see it dripping from inside the house in which i do and many units do. If you do want to install this device this is approximately 30 to 60 minutes to add to your unit and you should be able to find someone for a fraction of this cost to install it. 4: This company uses what they call a flat rate payment system which they put labor, all fees and parts together and give you a flat rate of cost so in this case there is approximately anywhere from $50.00 to $100.00 in parts and that's being generous which tells me there is approximately $750.00 to $790.00 total for both issues in labor and time for approximately 1 1 1/2 or 2 hours of work and that's also being generous. Using this flat rate system to make prices allows companies to pass up the breakdown of labor and parts costs so the people that don't know how to look the parts up won't know how much was labor and how much was parts. The total for both parts to be installed was $ 882.00. 5: Needless to say I will not afford $700.00 to say $790.00 in labor to remove and replace a capacitor and an overflow safety switch and you shouldn't either. When i called the company to ask why the high cost of labor they told me of the flat rate system they use and when i told them about the insulation the tech ran down my overflow drain line the lady said that they blew it out with pressure but i didn't see a compressor and anything in a can I can't believe would have enough pressure to push wet insulation 30 or more feet through a 3/4 inch PVC pipe. Maybe it does work but i won't know unless it clogs correct? Shouldn't have allowed it to go down the PVC drain in the first place. I paid for maintenance but that's not how i want my system treated and now worried will my ceiling flood nor will I pay into a flat rate system to receive service on my unit. I need a break down of parts and labor just for instances like this. Everyone should request that. It's your money not theirs. To sum this up at the end of the call the lady hung up on me for asking these questions and being concerned. No i wasn't rude no foul language and wasn't loud. I was very professional and She just didn't want to hear the complaint.

(first repair part was under warranty) Part was ordered from manufacturer and of course was on back order) Not to worry, as opposed to waiting with no A/C the jumper harness was repaired. and got us thru the summer. When the correct part finally came in took two tries from the manufacturer, we did a service at the time, and I signed up for a yearly service. One summer and one winter. well worth the charge and saved a little by signing up for both. I've had the winter service now and going to get another yearly. next thing get a quote for chair height toilets. Would highly recommend Grand Canyon for HVAC.
