I've been here several times to watch my nephew's youth hockey team play games and skate with him during stick time so I have to share my observations. The Good: The rink does have a nice snack spot, and a full bar. Super nice lady (Sandy) that I talked to while getting my food in the smaller snack bar. There's a Pure Hockey here that, despite being small, is very well-equipped with helpful and knowledgeable staff. I bought a pair of skates from them and they made sure I got a great fit. The Bad: The ice is in pretty rough shape, especially on the south side rink, it's clear that they don't properly flood or cut it in between sessions. Parents let their kids run around like feral animals, yelling and screaming, climbing on things, and no one seems to care and the employees certainly don't do anything about it. One of the worst parts about the rink is the bathrooms. I can't speak for the ladies, but the men's room is absolutely disgusting. There's always at least one urinal that's "out of service" and the last couple of times I've been (over the past two months) only one of the three sinks has worked. Half the time there's a 1/4 inch of some liquid on the floor, not sure if it's piss or water or what, but it's nasty as hell. Whoever runs this rink is a joke, I've looked into how much you charge for ice time and you clearly aren't investing a single dime into any improvements or even basic maintenance. Get your sh!t together and fix the bathrooms, clean the place once in a while, and invest a little money into making the ice better! read more

A very nice rink in Gilbert, Arizona. 2 sheets of ice, a great bar (normal bar food, drinks, lots of TV's, and outside patio (covered with sun sails), a market (coffee, breakfast sandwiches, water and gatorades, etc.) and a Pure Hockey store inside. I didn't interact with any of the staff, but the facility was fairly clean and welcoming. The bathrooms were as to be expected for a hockey rink serving youth hockey (in my case, a HS Varsity team). Parking was ample, with lots to the left, right, and right in front. There are also soccer and baseball games going on around the facility on the weekends, so many parents, kiddos, and cars around. Top tip... avoid parking right in front, as all of the parents were standing in the sunshine one the games ended to defrost (the South Pole rink was FREEZING!!!). The North Pole rink wasn't as cold and also provided a seating are outside of the rink with big windows and picnic tables. read more

Went for the first time on a Saturday with my daughter and the process was easy and everyone was efficient and friendly, no issues. It does get busy on the weekends but we didn't have an issue during the skating. We switched skate sizes a few times and had no issues. It's super cold so glad we brought gloves and a our own helmet. Showed up early for the public skate time thankfully... Line forms very quickly and was told they sell out often so I guess show up early. My girlfriend and I ended up only staying 30min as both of our skates were supper uncomfortable they were literally just plastic on plastic, mine didn't even have laces just some cheap strap design. The south rink we were on had a lot of rough black ice spots not sure if that's normal have never seen that anywhere else.... Price wasn't terrible($30 for 2 adults with rentals) but wouldn't say it was close to worth it . read more

Review based on free skate. Pros: It's an ice rink. There is plenty of parking. There is an attached restaurant. You can rent skates there. Cons: The ice was so hard and mutilated. Not smooth at all. There were TONS of people, many of them teenagers with those annoying learn to skate pushy things, pushing each other all over the ice. Families of five with teenage children who did not need handholding holding hands while skating, creating a huge barrier for the rest of us. The teenage or 20-something safety person was not helping at all; he was just making everything worse. I saw him (accidentally?) knock down another worker who was on the ice. It was complete chaos. Please don't bring your little tiny ones here; I don't feel it's safe for them. Maybe the adult free skate is better? read more

AZ Ice was, well, decent. The good: Plenty of parking both on street and with the nearby garage. Lots of skate supports are available for younger kids who are just getting started. The moderate: It is not a full-size hockey rink so it can get very crowded and the ice was pretty mutilated after two hours of skating. The frustrating: One person working the front desk made check-in feel tedious and slow. The "safety manager" or whatever you call him on the rink may as well have been asleep. There was a LARGE group of individuals standing, taking photos, and blocking traffic and over. And the skates were anything less than comfortable. Definitely be sure to wear thick socks for added comfort. They also charge extra for skate supports for the kids which seems a little ridiculous. Overall: It was great go get back out on the ice after many years, and fun take our younger two kids for the first time. But this place wouldnt be my first choice. read more

We came on New Year's Eve, when they had a 3 hour public skating session. We first line up on the line on the right to purchase the rental and ticket, then proceed to the line on the left for the skates. We have two different rinks, the public rink is the one on the left. We have a little one, who cannot skate, therefore we also rented the red walker. One hour into the skating, they cleared the rink and level off the ice. The ice was so smooth. It was really nice. It is great that you can just walk around, they were a lot of people, but everybody respectfully stayed a safe distance from you. Their ticket price is super reasonable. May make it an activity every time we are in town. read more

Filthy bathrooms. I can't believe the people that work in the restaurants and coffee/tea shop at the rink have to use these bathrooms and then go prepare your food. So gross. The restaurants get a grade A, I'm sure they didn't check out the restrooms. Even the news station was there the other day to show the skating. I would think they would make cleanliness a priority knowing FOX news was going to be there. Nope, the restroom is still filthy even the walls and mirrors are black. read more

I came to this location on June 28th, 2025 at 12:00pm. I got a pair of ice skates and tried them on. Too big, no big deal so I changed them out for a smaller pair. I put my left skate on and grab the other one. I was handed two left skates. I go back to the counter and tell the worker that I was handed two left skates and would like to switch one for a right skate. He takes one left skate and returns with a different skate. He gave me another left skate??? a third left skate!! was fun tho when i had the correct shoes. but the staff wasnt very kind at all read more

We discovered AZ Ice because they are on our Pogo Passes! My kids had never been ice skating before, so we rented those little buddy walker devices at first, but it didn't take them long to get the hang of it! I love how they have public skate times almost every day that we can go to - and that they have plenty of seating for adults who need a rest. Ice skating is a workout! The daughter is obsessed with ice skating, but there is none in Tucson. So as reward for good grades we made the drive to Gilbert. We got there in time for open skate, which started at 9:45. Be warned - the rink is freezing. Like hands and face numb while your nose leaks freezing. Dress for it. Cost is pretty low - $13 or so for the two hours with skate rental. When we went (weekday during spring break) it was pretty empty, which was nice. Didn't have to dodge too many people. Turns out there was also an open skate at 1:45 and that one was much more crowded. Because my daughter is spoiled, and as mentioned obsessed with skating, we also signed her up for a private lesson. There was a little miscommunication on it, since I had no clue what I was doing, but they were very nice and accommodating and made it work, which I appreciated. The daughter received 30 min of one on one for $30 plus an additional half hour of practice time for $16. This was on a different rink than open skate, so there were maybe 10 people on the ice, which was nice. If the daughter can keep the grades up we will be back regularly! read more

I have been coming here for years, I enjoy this place alot. But I have noticed over the years the night /weekend crowd for public skating has been more chaotic and even intimidating for beginner skaters. Although there is a staff member on the ice to overlook the rink, they don't actually enforce any saftey rules, when broken. Morning during weekdays is very calm and slow though which makes for a cute morning date or some quiet skating time. read more

Our daughter wanted to ice skate and had told me all the plans the night before. We came to this location with our pogo pass at 2.05, just about 25 minutes before public skating will end. Daniel S understood right away, and had the sense of urgency about our situation that he tried to get us settled with skates first, while waiting for the other employee, Nora, to check us in. Appreciate their sense of urgency and being effective in the check in process as well as not making us feeling bad for using pogo pass (while pogo pass is a great value, many places only allow weekday to use the passes. Ok so I was coming to this place to ice skate and sounds fun right! No. The workers were rude, yelling, and were not nice. The workers actually went the opposite way everyone else was going and spread out their legs as far apart as possible and knocked people over on purpose. Two sheets of ice in the middle of the desert, so I'll take it. The ice was nice and no issues skating. As a spectator, the North Pole rink has a heater and is rather comfortable. The South Pole rink is absolutely freezing so be prepared and bring extra layers. There is a nice lobby and snack bar area, with good seating when waiting for games. We love this facility and this community! Since the very beginning we have been greeted with nothing but KINDNESS from the people who work here and even the other parents. Bob, who runs at least the ice hockey side, has a great heart and passion for ice hockey and takes care of the families. He allowed my 4 year old son to try ice hockey and met with us personally, and even gave us some basic gear and let us borrow skates just so we could try! After, they gifted us some hand-me downs so we could get started!!!!!! My little guy normally gets one on one help since he's pretty new, and he loves all the staff, especially Miss Kendall. It's cold in facility because... you know.. it's an ice hockey rink. So we bring our winter jackets and a blanket. When the restaurant is open (which it isn't right now due to covid) we get warm food while we watch! My ONLY gripe, and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is due to communication. The website they have isn't up to date so I generally have to call to get accurate information. Which is fine. They primarily use Facebook to communicate. But as you know to call and advocate for your kid, you'll be fine! read more

We were there for a travel hockey game today. Wow was the ice conditions TRASH!!!! The puck would barely slide on the ice at all. It would constantly just stick in place. You an Ice Rink!!! I really loved this place. Being new to AZ getting back on the ice was so important for me. Now I am getting my son and my family out here and do what I love as well. Jamie took excellent care in getting me into a brand new pair of skates. I absolutely love it. We will be regulars here so my kids can learn to skate. But I would recommend this place since the shop is Nice, the staff don't bother much and it's really a great place. Lots of families that were nice to us as well. I really hope they get training bars at some point cause we need my 2 year old and 4 year old to try using those lol. read more

Large teens using the skate helpers and taking up so much space, making you dodge people like a war zone and fall! We love AZ Ice Gilbert! We have been skating here for 2 years now and have been nothing but happy. I have 3 hockey players and a figure skater. The staff is always friendly and welcoming to my family when ever we come in. Holly Harrington helped develop my new skaters into being fantastic players. I was so glad to hear of her promotion to being the figure skating director because if she continues to teach the way I have seen on the hockey side I know my daughter will finally flourish in figure skating. I saw her on the ice Tuesday with the learn to skate classes and that is the first time I ever saw the figure skating director out on the ice when my daughter was having lessons. I am looking forward to seeing how many wonderful things she will be bringing to figure skating now. read more

Really disappointed with the money spent and little direction. My son was a mite and ended his season last month. There was no formal introduction with the coach. Our hockey mom I give her credit with out her our team would have been a complete mess. The front desk really was no help, our coach for the team I get it's volunteer but LOL serious organization needs to be set down. I'm disappointed in how the program was run. Coaches need to make a point to interact with parents. When the bill we pay is nearly a mortgage payment I expect to see my son on a team. 1/2 the time he had no clue what was going on out on the ice with the wrong team! read more

I'm a 40-something adult who skated as a teen, who decided to take it back up again a few months ago. There are three rinks I attend, and of the three, AZ Ice Gilbert has the best figure skating ice (two sheets) and is the only of the three that offers freestyle sessions in addition to public skate. The rink isn't the newest and shiniest, but none of them are. However, the situation with management and the skating director is very off putting. At the time I reentered skating, this rink had a former elite/competitive skater as their director, and I want to say about ten coaches available for private lessons. All of a sudden, that director left and the new Figure Skating director is the person who mostly runs the hockey and speed skating programs. And most of the coaches left, which really raised my eyebrows. It wouldn't have affected me, except that the new director (Holly H.) never replied to the two emails I sent (one through the website and one directly to her address given on the website) asking for clarification on the Freestyle session rules/which level skaters are allowed on them. I saw her on the ice a week later, with hockey kids in a class. I'm getting the impression that the figure skating program is not a priority. It seems to me that this rink would benefit from having separate directors for the Hockey and Figure Skating programs. And hiring more coaches on. I am acquainted with the coaches Heather and Susan, and they are great! So this rink is great for practice time, but if you're looking to be really involved in a figure skating club or have a lot of options for coaching, I would look at the Scottsdale Ice Den. read more

AZ Ice has become a good quality skate and hockey rink. Two sheets of ice, a nice rink-side bar and grill, and a new pro shop all make it the complete package. The facilities have slowly improved as well and now are very consistent - working showers, decent hours and clean bathrooms . The only thing that should be continued as a point of improving is the ice conditions. Some boards need repairs around the edges so that the molding is not uneven and warped. The ice is difficult to keep in the heat of AZ, so I understand that. This rink has improved in that department, but still lags behind the excellent ice condition of the Scottsdale rink. The progress , however, has been encouraging. I play here 3-4 times per week. read more
