Communication is really lacking with this facility. They NEVER respond to emails. We signed our son up for his first ever skate classes and I wasnt sure if it was the right class. We weren't told what to bring or where to go or what kind of skates to ask for. (They were handing out hockey skates when they should have given figure skating skates, per the teacher). No one had helmets or gloves. The real kicker was showing up today and there was no class. We weren't told last week, we got no email or phone call, nothing. Very disappointing. Also, masks are like non existent. Teachers dont wear them or any parents. read more

I spoke with the General Manager, Jim Curly, on the phone, I asked him why the only black coach was removed from the staff. His response was "you're really testing my memory" so I asked "was she rude or disrespectful?" He said "not to my knowledge." So I asked if she was given a reason for her termination and he said no. Adult Hockey program is a joke. Managed with opinion and double standards. Literally called the police (during men's league) for me swearing at the hockey director, citing that customers and kids could hear it, after he moved the conversation to a more public venue. Meanwhile the ICEHOLES and MOOSEKNUCKLES are playing each other, and the derogatory name of both teams is perfectly acceptable for kids and customers to watch and published on public schedules. We paid 65 dollars and the guy who took our money didn't tell us we had less than an hour. We will never be back to this place because the young boy early twenties took our money and did absolutely nothing to make our experience better. This place is the worst. Stay away!! read more

My granddaughter wanted an ice skating party for her 14th birthday party. After reading some of the reviews I was a bit skeptical. I went and checked it out before booking any party. To me it was like any other skating place. People having fun. I booked the party and a grand a time was had by all 7 teenage girls. Staff was friendly and helpful. I would have given this a 5 star rating if not for a few minor issues. Issue 1: When booking the party over the phone Sheyenne could not hear me over the people around her talking very loud. She did ask them to quiet down several times. Solution: Take calls in an office or quiet location. If need be take a message and have someone else return the call. Issue 2: When we got to AZ Ice, there is no "check-in" line. A lot of people were standing around in the lobby in groups, several people were at the desk waiting for help. Solution: Have a check in area for parties and another for free skate. Issue 3: When we got checked in for the party (12:30 -3:30) I was handed some round stickers with Name and time for party. When I asked where do we get the skates, I was told around the corner. Well the only corner I found was out a door to the ice, with a counter that said skate returns. I finally found someone to help us with the skates. Solution: Have a sign that says skates here. Something that lets newbies know what is going on. Issue 4: What do we do with our shoes? I saw lockers but come on I am paying $189.00 for a party and now I have to rent a locker for the shoes. I am looking around for a table or a place to sit when I spy these buckets with names on them!! Eureka!!! I found our parties name!!! Solution: When you check in for a party, have someone from AZ Ice greet you, explain the process and answer any questions you may have. I know these may be minor issues, but as a parent trying to herd kids who are wanting to get on the ice as quickly as possible, holding shoes/purses, it would have been nice to have had an organized check in process and someone to walk me through where everything was at. Again, everyone had a great time. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Several moms who didn't know about AZ Ice were impressed and were talking about bring their families in !!! read more

AZ ICE Gilbert is the new name of what once was Polar Ice Gilbert. It is under new ownership. AZ ICE is our home rink and we have been skating there for many years with our kids either figure skating and playing hockey. I am very excited about the changes we have seen so far for the betterment of the rink and the community. I know that they are continuing to make changes and I am very hopeful about all the good things that we are seeing. The ice conditions have already improved, the cleanliness of the facility is noticeably improved and the cafe seems to be headed in the right direction. The grand opening was a nice event. There was free food, games, music and face painting. The mayor of Gilbert was in attendance as well as, the new owner and many from the Gilbert Parks and Rec department. It was nice to see everyone all there together, unified, as this was a long process to get to this point. Business transitions are hard and take time and I am willing to take time and evaluate those changes as they happen. I hope to be able to come back after some time and amend my review and make it 5 stars! read more

We spend a lot of time at this rink. For those of you that thought you were walking into a 5 star french restaurant, I apologize that sometimes you can't eat off the floor; even though my kids have and are still alive. The AHU coaches here, and the staff has been wonderful to my family. Coach Holly has been a major reason for my 3 son's development in skating, and is also a big reason why so many young skaters that work with her are ahead relative to peers. She is a tough coach at times, but there is no one that I know that cares more about the development of kids from 1 to 18 and beyond. The rink would be lost without her leadership and i don't imagine there was much thought about some of the hateful comments posted. As for you guys complaining about kids running around, you guys are cracking me up. read more

Both my boys have been skating at AZ Ice Gilbert since they were 3 (now 12 & 9). They fell in love with hockey because they had an awesome coach, Holly Harrington who took her time with each and every one of those kids on the ice and loved them like they were her own. Every time we travel out of state for a tournament, the first thing that comes out of people's mouths is "You have hockey in Arizona" and "Who is your slating Coach". We are so proud to tell them that Holly Harrington is our power skating Coach. She is very dedicated in helping all these kids. Recently Coach Holly was named the new Figure Skating Director and we are so excited for her.... there have been people accusing Holly of things that are far from the truth, which to me is just plain disgusting. There are reasons why people get fired and this shouldn't be taken out on Holly, she's there doing her job and everyone loves her there. I could easily come on and write a bad review/experience of the person who was recently the figure skating director. If I didn't trust Holly with my boys we would have left years ago. AZ Ice has been a wonderful place to watch my children grow. My kids skate here regularly, my son plays hockey there and my daughter has gotten skating lessons from the lovely Holly Harrington. When our house flooded and my family was going through hard times Holly offered help and donations in any way she could, far exceeding the role or figure skating/hockey coach. She's been an amazing supporter of my babies and their skating giving my children opportunities to grow and learn that we wouldn't be given otherwise. My son (second year Bantam AAA) started playing mini mites (now Cub Hockey) hockey at AZ Ice Gilbert when he was four years of age. Thank goodness he was fortunate enough in the very beginning to find a hockey coach that also happens to be a professional figure skater, AZ Ice Gilbert's own Coach Holly Harrington. At whatever age or level your skater is at, no other coach in the valley can coach and teach edge training better then Coach Holly. I have personally known Holly and Kurt Goar for over 10 years and can say that no one cares more about youth hockey & figure skaters than these two. They both have a passion for teaching and coaching like no other. They have opposite styles, but both very effective. I would recommend these two to any parents looking to get their kids involved in hockey or figure skating. We have been skating at AZ Ice Gilbert for over 5 years! Our family has throughly enjoyed the instruction we have received from all coaches at the rink, including Coach Holly Harrington. Coach Holly has coached our son early in his hockey career and our daughter for "dancing on the ice". Holly has been nothing but professional, polite and loving to both of my kiddos for the past 5 years. If it wasn't for her, neither of my kiddos would have found their love of the ICE! Sure, the rink is messy and at time there is food on the floor and kids running around. That is because you have dedicated families there supporting their kids. Some families "live" at the rink so their kids can have the ice time and do what they LOVE. Whether you are a Figure Skating Family or a Hockey Family, this is a great rink with some great coaches. read more

PROs, CONs, then summary. Went here for a hockey tournament over Thanksgiving break. (I didn't get a chance to skate, so I can only review based on being a spectator.) PROs--This is another great ice rink. Why only 4 stars? On one sheet, I could not view the game from behind the net. Sorry, but that is a negative for me. Aside from that, the facilities were nice, clean, and new. Plenty of parking too, and near major streets and in a good neighborhood. CONs--Again, couldn't get behind one of the goals. I don't have any other complaints, as I was only here @1.5rs and did not use the snack bar. Would I go back? Yes. Arizona knows how to build ice rinks. For us california people, we have toyota sports center and valencia ice rink....all other rinks are run down. read more

Over the years we have used this rink in several capacities including Kids First, power skate, Goar Hockey Camp, hockey and figure skating. Holly Harrington Development has had a hand in these successful programs. In each of these programs she has developed positive and encouraging relationships with my kids, grew them in the sport they love and when no longer under her wing has checked in and followed their successes. My kids now 12 and 14 still greet Holly with a hug and smile when they see her during her endless hours she dedicated to the rink. I went there with my girlfriend on my 30th birthday last Thursday. At first appearance, 4 people were there. Considering it was on a Thursday morning, that is kinda expected. After we had paid we walked to the ice rink with the skates they had given us. Fully understanding they can not sharpen the skates due to liability reasons, they were so bad and in such horrible shape that the second we went on the ice we could not get any traction what so ever and our feet were killing us instantly. The ice was not in good shape. We couldnt even get any traction. We had so much trouble trying to get around. We know how to skate, so its not like we cant. We ended up leaving after less than 10 minutes of arriving. I couldnt get a refund. Worse birthday experience ever. Im definitely not come back here. read more

Went there on a slow Sunday with the family. Didn't come across anything other folks complain about - it was clean & good customer service. I can tell you firsthand it's a fabulous place to put children in skates for the first time. The rink is hockey-rink size, so plenty of room for folks like me that are well-seasoned with skating. There's room in the middle for figure skating. There weren't heaters for those in our party that weren't skating; deducting one star for that. It is very cold. Snack bar has great hot chocolate. It is an ok ice rink. Cleanliness is questionable. I signed up my 4 year old for skating lessons and the only reason I go here is because it is the closest rink to my house and I think I can deal with the run down facility as long as as my child learns basic skating. Once he's proficient, I'll look for another place in the valley. His instructor Ms.Susan is 5-star worthy. She is so personable and is great with preschoolers. Most of the assistants are teenagers, and I'm ok with that. At 5 lessons accomplished, I've seen the lessons start and end on time with no time lost in transition. The ice seems to be of decent quality, but again, all my child is here for is learning basic skating, not hockey or anything. read more

Rental skates are awful. They never sharpen it and I was told "we don't have anyone that sharpens them". The hockey store will sharpen it for you for $7 even if you're using the rental skates. They expect you to buy skates for your child who is just maybe trying skates for the first time. read more

AZ Ice for quite a while held strong COVID restrictions, masks required, temperatures taken for everyone visiting, and limited people available for public skates. Since then, a lot of establishments have been lifted, as well as many employees vaccinated. Masks aren't required anymore but highly recommended. Birthday Parties, public skates, restaurants, and cafes have opened fully, and my family and I were able to skate without any issues for months now. The staff was positive and helped us through any questions or concerns that we had about the new protocols as well as being our first time coming to the establishment when it initially re-opened. The staff is friendly, and get on tasks immediately when there are spills (or if the paper towels run out in the bathroom ;) Lobbies are cleaned almost hourly and taken care of daily even with hundreds of people coming in everyday. Out of all of the AZ Ice establishments, Gilbert has the most programs for kids, both figuring skating and hockey, with Holly Harrington. My son and daughter are in the Learn to Skate and Learn to Play programs, and absolutely love it! We will definitely be here for years to come. read more

Super disappointed in the updates to the food offerings.....the snack bar has down graded since they opened the new restaurant. The new restaurant is TOO expensive and not very well set up. $9 For French fries? They increased all the beer prices as well, and they don't distinguish tap beers from bottled on their menu. The snack bar now has very limited offerings, and a third of their menu are hot dogs or sausages. The new restaurant does not have a view of the ice either. As someone who spends HOURS at this facility weekly, the restaurant is a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT, and ruined the snack bar at the same time. I would not be shocked to learn they are pulling in less money either since no one wants to eat at the restaurant and the snack bar is TOO limited now. We went here for the public skate over the weekend. While we had fun, the rentals were so bad my bf bought a new pair in the shop. It was also a bit frustrating navigating the cones & 'private' lessons going on during a public skate (coaches: rent ice time on your dime). The kids attending private lessons had no regard for others on the ice... being cut off & short stopped was irritating. Nothing was said to them by employees (or parents) even after their antics initiated falls for others. Respect & consideration should be rule #1 for any athlete... or human being. read more

AZ Ice was honestly a really fun experience to go to and escape the heat for a bit! They have a deal where if you show you're a Gilbert resident, you receive a $1 off admission which is a pretty cool way of getting in the locals. The actual skating was a bit pricy with adults 13 and up being $9.50 and then the additional cost of ice skates being $3.50. My normal place that I skate is between $10-$11.50 and skates are included with admission price. If you are renting skates, I definitely recommend you ask for the figure skates that are laced up opposed to the plastic ones that you strap in. Though it is a lot easier to get the plastic ones on, your feet will start to hurt very quickly. The laced ones need to be very tight when lacing them up but provide a lot more comfort when you are actually on the ice. The ice is very well maintained and the Zamboni comes out frequently to clean/polish the ice which is really nice. Overall, a good place to skate just a bit pricy. read more

Wow, social media hit and runs on someone's character. This is why I dislike social media so much. But I could not let some of these comments go unchallenged about one of my favorite teachers and skating staples of the Valley. Holly Harrington has been the reason for so many kids growing into strong skaters, hockey players and human beings over the years. Year after year I've watched Holly donate her free time to my kid and MANY MANY other kids just for the love of doing her job. Others who may write negative reviews about her TRULY do not know Holly. She is the reason why my son Logan is tough, dedicated and stronger as a person and hockey player. As for the tripping comment. I and MANY others who have kids learning to skate know exactly what you are talking about and YES, Holly has done this but NOT in the way you suggest. She is tough and corrects skaters posture, stride, and feet placement better than any skating coach my son has had in the valley. I've watched as Holly asked my son to lift his leg a certain way, or stride a certain way, and tell him about if he skates that way he will be off balance or incorrect posture. She pushed Logan GENTLY showing him when his skating is wrong what the result will be. Never ever did I once think Holly was anything even slightly rough. If you have complaints about her then maybe sports are not your kids cup of tea. They are competitive and kids need to work hard and push themselves. Her technique is right on! I've spoken to many parents with players at all levels who have said Holly was the only coach that pushed their kid to be the best. Is she tough? Damn right she is and she shouldn't have to answer to character hit and runs like this. Here is a solid truth---anyone who wants their kid to be the best skater and best version of their self should seek out Holly first and that will be the child's best chance of succeeding. I coached at Gilbert for years and I've done skating lessons with Holly and she was the only one I've ever seen who can command such a large amount of kids when it is total chaos. Holly, you rock on sister! You are simply second to no one in my book! read more

Super disappointed with the staff of this establishment. I took off work to watch my daughters skate during a day camp. During my time, I listened to two to three teenage boys lock a 10-12 year old out of a classroom, refuse to allow him to get his gear, make him run around the rink to the other door, only to lock it on him and make him run around again. When the bullied young man asked a staff member if they had a key and could help him get his gear, she told him no and just went on her way. It wasn't until I "pulled a Karen" on these kids that the bullying ended. The language being used in family spaces was far from family friendly and nowhere near appropriate for the small children skating on the rink. Any decent video I have of my daughters ice skating is commentated by this disgusting display of SDE. When adults FINALLY arrived to manage the situation they just acted like this was no big deal. Any establishment that brushes off bullying in this manner is not one I want my children learning anything from. read more

Can't say enough about this place. Excellent staff, great food made to order, an excellent drink assortment and a great environment for you and your kids! Staff is extra friendly. Make sure you try the learn to skate program directed by Coach Holly Harrington. As an accomplished figure skater and hockey coach, she will direct your kids and insure they will be given the skills they need to excell in either Field. Her job is to teach the kids (hey, adults can play too!) The fundamentals of the sport in a safe and friendly environment!
