There also happens to be a small park, tennis & sand volleyball courts and plenty of orange groves. Unfortunately, the average visitor is discouraged from playing amongst the trees. My sons have both played in baseball tournaments at fields all over the valley. For some reason, neither had played at this facility in Mesa. In fact, I'd never heard of it before. The short history is this... It was built in 1984 and served as the Spring Training home of the Angels until 2006. I find it hard to believe that this tiny little complex was a major league ball team's pre-season home. However, it is an excellent little league park. Even if the fences are over 360 feet down the lines. And kudos to Mesa! You can tell right away that the folks in charge of maintenance know what they are doing! Pay attention here Gilbert! Are you listening Victory Lane? The field layout is traditional, but with only three diamonds, parking is exceptionally close. The grass is green and manicured. The backstop screens are green and appear new. I like that they discourage spectators from hanging out behind home plate. Fans are pushed further apart than normal, but so are the dugouts. And as an added bonus, there are extra bleachers that are close to first and third. That's right, each teams dugout is nearly past the corners of the infield. Check it out! It's a clever and very enjoyable layout for the parents and fans. The only downside is the really large amount of foul territory behind home. Better not let any wild pitches past! Gene Autry Sports Complex is a beautiful place to watch some baseball (and other stuff) and is worth the drive across town. It's easily one of my top two favorites, up there with Pioneer Park in Peoria. Mesa is clearly proud to have this facility. Can't wait to get back there again!

No matter how many birthdays are going on here, there is plenty of great space in the parking lot for parking. They have a splash pad, and that's where I've primarily gone when I'm here. It's always very clean. They have about 6 different sections of areas where the water trickles or sprays out at you and it rotates around. Bathrooms are conveniently located next to it. There is also a playground alongside of it, so if you are a parent with kids that want to play in the water or playground, you can actually stand in between and keep a good eye on both areas. Swingsets are nearby and what I love most is that they have an adaptable swing set that includes a swing for children with special needs. There is a 3-point plastic harness that locks in, and a large bucket seat to accommodate them. There are 3 ramadas there with roughly 3 large tables in each. Perfect for parties or if you are a parent that likes to sit in the shade and watch your child at play--it's a great shaded area with a close distance to the playground and splash pad. There is a decent-sized skate park by the parking lot and a ball field. Great neighborhood park for anyone and a lot more intimate and quiet than most. Always a fun spot!

Note for all you extreme sports enthusiasts: Espee Park will also host the location of Chandler's new BMX park.

Pretty limited to a handful. But longboards have been in short supply in general, and they at least have the bases covered. Expect to put in $120-$180 here for a longboard, but a good one. They carry a local brand, White Wave, Sector 9, and Globe. Limited selection, but quality. Skateboards - they can build almost anything. Tons of decks to choose from, this would be their specialty. Not a skateboarder myself, can't weigh in for quality. Trucks - they had some, and they were shiny. You can usually grab some good deals during their blowout sales and at their annual Avalanche Sale that they have downtown. Ski Pro started out in the 80's and has grown to be one of the biggest locally-owned action sports store in Arizona. They sell both ski and snowboard equipment and apparel.
