Perfectly crisp and cheese seems to stay hotter than mozzarella sticks. Good selection of deep fried food to pair with drinking or for kids. Onion rings, sweet potato fries, fries, chicken tenders, etc. Average $5-8. Bathrooms are interesting. Women's has a dozen+ stalls and the men's has 1 stall and 3 urinals. Let's go! While the rink doesn't have mold on the walls like other rinks, they definitely do not show respect or appreciation for their customers. Rinks in AZ know they have a captive audience. We have no choice because of the lack of competition. So, they treat us poorly. I've spent tens of thousands of dollars there, volunteered for years, it doesn't matter. Zero appreciation...just a number. As much as I'd love to see hockey flourish in az, we have a long, long way to go. read more

Came here on a Friday for their public skate session (2 hours for $10 with skate rental, or $8 without the rental). Skaters were majority middle/high schoolers, a couple speedy hockey players, and myself, a 20-something year old who just wanted to relive her childhood ice skating birthday parties. Friday public skate was quite packed even though they have two rinks going on. One is dimly lit with a DJ (music ranging from pop songs to Jump On It and the Macarena!) while the other has lights on. My husband plays in the leagues every once in awhile and this is by far my favorite rink to watch at. With the bar, the tables, just the overall set up is perfect for those watching. I wish all the rinks in Southern California were as nice as this rink, or the Ice Den Scottsdale sister rink to this one! Many of the Rinks in the San Diego County, Orange County, Los Angeles County, San Bernardino County rinks are converted supermarkets or meat markets or warehouses where they discovered "Hey!" we can stick an ice rink into this place with a little retrofitting. Now I'm not talking about the nice plush Toyota Sports Center (TSC) in El Segundo where the Los Angeles Kings practice, but Arizona Rinks (at least the two Ice Dens) are head over heels better than the So Cal places we've been to hands down! From the ice quality, spectator benches, restaurants, pro-shop, locker rooms, weight rooms, skate rentals, party rooms, etc. There's a lot to like about the ice rinks built to be a skating rink and not something else that failed, then rebuilt as an ice rink. In summary, there wasn't much to gripe about as we were in awe of the rink upkeep as it all looked "brand new"! I've been skating at this Chandler location since 1999 or 2000, playing in the adult hockey leagues for 15 of those years. This rink recently changed hands and is now run by the Ice Den people who run the Scottsdale Ice Den. In general, this has been a positive change. The ice surface at this rink has drastically improved since this rink changed management. It is better kept, with better surfaces and stays reasonable in warmer weather. In fact, they have had some growing pains (fixing cold showers etc) but seem to have gotten over the hump in these areas. I would have given them 5 stars if not for my last point below. One thing that has declined in the last year for anyone who plays hockey here- the officiating of league games has become inconsistent and poor. In this situation that everyone suffers. Refs routinely do not understand the rules in situations they should know them. It appears the refs have no relationship to the leagues and hence have no responsibility for the quality of officiating they provide. Inquiries and concerns have no where to be lodged since the refs have no accountability. This makes the experience poor for all involved. I appreciate the kind staff who manages the leagues and staffs the check-in areas. They are excellent. read more

Normally we LOVE Ice Den!! It's clean, great facility, great prices & my kids really enjoy skating!! Never have we ever had a problem, but today however was ROTTEN. I took 5 kids (2 of my own 3 friends) to Ice Den Chandler today for open skate and there was a 12 year old kid (so he said) on the ice being a TOTAL JERK!! Bullying kids, starting fights, giving the middle finger to skaters AND the staff on the ice. My 9 year old doesn't back down and talked right back to this kid and then he took off his gloves, threw them down and said, "you want to fight?". Really?? You're 12 and this kid is 9. Get control of yourself. A few of the kids I was with came off the ice twice saying they were scared b/c he was threatening them and would say things to them while skating by. After watching this go on for over an hour from the cafe windows I finally went to talk to a staff member & apparently his father works at Ice Den and this kid is allowed to run a muck all summer with clearly zero discipline. The staff member I spoke to said he already gave the kid his "final warning" because other parents have been complaining & that he would behave for the rest of open skate. This staff member was very understanding and professional. Bad PR move to have an employee's kid acting that way and ruining people's skate time. As we were leaving a parent came up to me and asked what was going on with the kid in the green shorts b/c the kids she came with were also being harassed by him (and they were YOUNG!). She was pretty distraught and I told her he's the son of an employee. I was going to be super obnoxious and request a refund but at that point I just wanted to leave. My BIG concern from today was that this kid was going to seriously hurt someone. Real world experience for my kids: People can be mean, for no reason except they just want to be mean. read more

I have only skated here twice but its a nice facility. In the middle of the desert its nice to have a rink that is new and has hard, fast ice. The hockey locker rooms have a bizarre layout (the bathroom is separate from the showers) and are a bit small. Other than that I have no complaints about the facility. Prices are a bit steep but it does cost a lot of money to run an ice rink in the Sonoran desert. read more

We liked the Ice Den overall, however their black coffee at the chilly bean cafe was rather disappointing. This doesn't mean that the cafe is bad however the coffee compared to their other items is lacking. Instead, we recommend settling for a rice crispy treat. avoid coffee at all costs. 2 extra stars for the crispy air in the rink. we keep it crispy here. anyway, avoid putting sugar in the coffee because it will be crunchy. not crispy. aftertaste is too sweet. read more

My boyfriend and I are in town visiting a friend for the weekend from CA and he booked a skate for the 3 of us. Unfortunately I woke up this morning feeling incredibly sick so we had to cancel our skate. The employee on the phone, Elliot - who said he was the manager - said that we can not get a refund but can have skate credits to be used in the next 30 days. Even after explaining the situation, that we don't live here - we aren't the name on the card that was charged - Elliot was not understanding and insisted the credits will only be available to be used by the 3 different names listed on the reservation. Why can't they give 3 credits to the person who made the reservation? Seems like they just want to be difficult. read more

We have been taking our kiddos to this facility for about a year now and we absolutely love it here. Tara is beyond helpful and knowledgeable helped us get our kiddos signed up for the right classes. All the staff here is so kind and grant "one of the instructors " has both the kids obsessed! He's so good with the kids and they look forward to coming to their classes. PROs, CONs, then summary. Went here for a hockey tournament over Thanksgiving break. (I didn't get a chance to play here, so I can only review as a spectator) PROs--The place is clean and new. It was a very nice rink, and had two sheets. The stands were nice and you were able to view the game from behind both nets. The restrooms were clean and the restaurant was good too. Locker rooms were big enough and clean too. Plenty of parking. CONs--None really. I don't have any real complaints, although there should be more outlets, but that was more of an annoyance than a complaint at this point. Would I go back? Yes. It is a nice rink. Don't know if I will be in AZ in the foreseeable future, but this is a nice rink. read more

I haven't been to many rinks in my lifetime, but had a decent experience at Ice Den. I was very nervous since I'm a beginner. The free skate / open rink time on a Saturday afternoon was crowded. It gave me anxiety. Between having children speed skate around to very slow skaters using a walker - I was frightened of getting hit or falling over. The rentals were fairly priced and in ok condition. The Zamboni was quick. The overall venue was nice and they seem to run smooth operations. read more

We went here for the first time for a 6 year old birthday party , we had never been ice skating, this place was amazing ! The party it self was well done the staff was great , private room and not rushed , then 2 hours to skate ! It was a wonderful afternoon for our family ! We will be back for sure for open skate ! This Ice Den is great. There are 2 rinks and the instructors are all nice and very talented. There is a cross fit gym and restaurant / bar to spend time while you are off the ice or just waiting for someone to finish up. Great for skating lessons or hockey lessons. We wanted to check out Polar Ice Gilbert, but they only had a morning public skating, whereas here, they have a couple of open skating in the morning and afternoon. This was my little cutie pie's first time ice skating. For $7.50, you get the skates, but no more buckets to help them stay up. He did great with his older cousins' help. My little nephew was done after 20 minutes..."It's too cold!" he complained! The he asked for hot chocolate...he's our little treasure. I will definitely look into signing up for hockey classes for my little cutie pie. They did complain about the plastic skates hurting their feet. The costly game begins. Another awesome place to literally keep cool in the summer. read more

Great place to skate! The only reason I reserve giving them a full 5 stars is due to the uncomfortable skates. Skates aside, the rink is kept in great condition and the ice is great to skate on. There is usually a pretty good music list playing and the rink doesn't get too crowded. If you want to take a break from skating, there is a full drink and snack bar with plenty of seating. Additionally, there are usually little league hockey games going on so you can get some great entertainment watching kids from the hockey leagues duke it out! This place is perfect for family outings, birthday parties, and date nights with that special someone! Bring a sweater, some tube socks, and enjoy the ice! read more

Just got home from a private event at Polar Ice and it went great! Leanne, the event coordinator, was great to work with and she made the process of getting everything together very painless, especially since we're a student organization at ASU. I came in a little early before our event to make sure everything was in the clear, and it went off without a hitch. I've been to Ice Den Chandler several times (and several times back when it was still "Polar Ice Chandler"). The renovations that Ice Den did to this facility is 10-times better than what it used to be! Both sheets of ice are well maintained, lit very well, and kept at a great temperature! Staff is always friendly, and public skating rates are rather reasonable considering how nice the facilities are kept. Excellent place to skate! read more

My son and I attended a Skate/Hockey Birthday party here and had a great time! This was his first time on ice skates (his first time on roller skates was awful, so I was scared). I think the cold ice helped calm him down a bit and he loved skating! We took our fill of spills and slides, no major crashes! I will give you a word of advice on the Skate/Hockey party. If you as an adult want to skate stay towards the glass, or the opposite side of the hockey players. Adults make bigger targets for them to take you out! Not once but twice for me. I think I came home with more bruises than my son. Yes the skates can be a bit uncomfortable, I suggest taking an extra pair of tube socks. There's a full concession with adult beverages, some video games and lots of room for larger parties. The martial arts studio has caught our eye on each party our daughter has been invited to attend. read more

ATTENTION BEGINNERS: For those of you who have never skated before, or who are WAY rusty on ice skates like I am, don't make $5 Friday Nights the time you decide to try ice skating for the first time! This may seem like a given, but there were many other newbies the night that I went. The rink is packed, and I mean PACKED with people, many of them going FAST on their skates. I watched enviously as a 3-year old, that I shall call Disco Baby, sped past me every 5 minutes, looking like she glided out of the womb on ice skates! On the flip side, you have the beginners too, who come here, rent skates and suddenly realize that attempting to try ice skating on $5 Fridays was a bad decision. Aside from the rink being packed full of experienced skaters skating very fast, there is only one entry/exit onto the rink. As a beginner trying to get onto the ice, you are very intimidated by the slippery ice and experienced skaters flying towards you as they attempt to leave the ice. As an experienced skater who just wants to get onto the ice, it's annoying to have to wait while beginners block the entryway, unable to get their footing, or just plain scared to get completely on at all. I was stuck behind a couple for 5 minutes while they blocked the entry, debating on who would be brave enough to go first. Ice Den needs to open a second entryway so there can be one for beginners who need more time to enter/exit the ice. Other than that, I give Ice Den high remarks for being well-organized and easy to navigate. I had my skates on in less than 10 minutes from the moment I entered. The ice was also in good condition at the time of my visit. If you are a beginner, call Ice Den and find out which public skate times are less crowded. read more

Best rink in the valley. Two sheets of ice. You can see the lines and the surface is perfect. The boards and glass are in excellent shape. People are friendly and professional. The building is clean. I went to polar ice with an entertainment book coupon and my teanage daugther. The pros: Cashier took off BOGO for the admission AND the skates. It appeared they had a pretty cool summer camp w/ a hybrid skate/martial arts studio in the same building. Location was safe, clean and comfortable. Wasn't too busy, went on a Thursday morning. The cons: The skates, were not comfortable. I come from the East Coast, and used to ice skate when I was little. Sometimes on a rink, but other times on a pond with my grandpa. More recently I have skated with rentals in Ohio as well. I have never ever ever tried on More uncomfortable skates in my life. They were impossible to size, no half sizes, I had to pick either swim in too much room and possibly break an ankle, or cut off circulation. They need better music. More upbeat, more...beat.... I probably wouldn't go back without another coupon, unless they had some kind of event to make the experience less painful or more enjoyable. read more

Their hockey house program is not meant for kids to learn but only for the more experienced players. Basically house travel hockey. They stack their teams so ice time during the games is pretty non existent unless your child is the best on the team. They talk about equal playing time but it's a joke. I can't speak for all the coaches but the one we had on peewee was verbally abusive! They would NOT switch teams and said they would refund us but did NOT refund! I will tell everyone I know what a terrible organization this is!! The old director Gary was amazing and since he left it has not been the same! I am not impressed with the new director and will never come back!! I do not recommend the Chandler Ice Den for families that want their child to learn to play hockey because they will not learn it here! read more

Great place! Very well maintained- skates are clean and well take care of. FYI they are hockey skates not figure skating skates. They were a little too stiff for me but that's a personal preference. It was busy but I felt that the price was reasonable and the experience was really fun. read more

Is there anything better than ice skating in AZ when it's 110 outside? I never ice skated as a kid, but we started coming to Polar for free skate with our kids several years ago to beat the heat. Then we had our kids do the free Kids First hockey program, and now I have two kids who play organized ice hockey! It's also much better for Mom and Dad now that they serve decent food and beer/wine. read more

I am writing an update to this review just to say that I am glad that the owners of Polar Ice decided to sell to the Ice Den. The Ice Den (North Scottsdale) is a great place to skate and take ice skating lessons. I hope that carries over to the Chandler location as I intend to visit every once in a while when me and my family go there to spend time with my parents and nieces and nephew. I will write a proper review once they open and I've had a chance to try out the renovated facilities. read more
