I was horrified by awful work done in this shop. They ruined $200 silk bedsheet. Originally, it had a double silk patch put in by another tailor, to save the silk's delicate nature. Over the time, the top level got snagged in several places. I asked Randolph (a gentleman who wrote a ticket) to add a single level of material OVER EXISTING PATCH. I remember the discussion because he started to talk about removing an old patch and, after I insisted on keeping it, he highlighted my instructions on the ticket. 2 weeks later when I came to pick up the work, an older lady and a young girl greeted me. The crinkled bedsheet was delivered in the most unsanitary fashion. Imagine my surprise, when I saw that the original patch was REMOVED. Such removal caused numerous holes to appear on the silk surface. The older lady told me that she can repair the bedsheet if I'll wait for a week. But I decided to take my chances somewhere else. About 6 months ago this company told me they could sew numbers on a hockey jersey after quoting me a ridiculous sum of money. They held it for two weeks and did nothing. When I went in (because I couldn't get anyone on the phone) they told me they've done nothing and it would now be $300... but that they really didn't want to do it. Today I went there again to have a suit altered for my son. They pointed to a sign and told me it would be two months before any alterations would be completed. Why are these people in business? Clearly they don't want customers. Clearly they don't understand customer service. Do NOT waste your time going to this sorry excuse for a business. read more

AZ Alterations has been around since I was a kid. When I was a teenager I would often bring jeans to have them hemmed, and they always did a great job. For my high school graduation I wanted my dress altered, and yet again they did an amazing job on a difficult fabric (this was over 5 years ago). Most recently I brought in brand new pants for work to be hemmed. They told me it would take over 2 weeks which was okay because I wasn't in a rush. There ended up being a mix up with the ticket so when I showed up to pick up the pants they did not yet work on them yet. They were apologetic and told me they would have it done next day. The following morning they called me and said it was ready. I was about to pay (I believe it was $18) but they told me I could just take it free of charge! Although the situation inconvenienced me, they truly have great customer service which a lot of other businesses lack; and the pants turned out great! While customer service here can admittedly be hit or miss, I have always had good work done here. I've mostly had simple things done, but I've been satisfied with the quality of the work and the turnaround time, though I admit I've never asked for a rush job or anything too complicated. While the pricing isn't necessarily a bargain, it's not unreasonable either. Some places in Scottsdale would charge a lot more, and this location is very convenient for me personally. The woman here was fast, efficient and reasonably priced. My son bought a suit at ' the Rack. They weren't able to alter the hem on his pants, but the seamstress did mark them, and referred him to this place. We called raced over and I like that she rechecked the marking. The pants were promised the next day and when he returned within 24 hours the job was completed and they fit well. read more

So, you downloaded a pattern online, and it's supposed to be easy, but it's not? Or you bought those shorts online, and they are three sizes too big and you look like a cartoon character? This is why you need to go to AZ Alterations. They have hemmed many of my clothes perfectly, nothing fit too snug or too loose when they were done. They are courteous, and the price is always reasonable. The alterations were done in a timely manner. This last week I did the pattern thing--which I may never do again!--and finally took it into the store, with the fabric I bought. The finished piece (an apron) is really pretty and fits well. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. I would give this zero stars if I could. This place is more expensive than others in the area and has terribly mean people working here. I got measurements here for a bridesmaids dress. The dress that came back did not fit at all and I had to spend an extra $100 and multiple visits to get it altered again. They never apologized. On another occasion, they quoted me one price over the phone and changed it in the store. When asking why the price changed, the woman was extremely rude. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCES. I will not spend another dime here and advise others to not suffer as I did with these people. Avoid at all costs. read more

I brought my dress in to get 8 inches off the length and I showed the lady how much I wanted off and she kept pulling my dress down. She even asked my grandma how much to cut off and not me even though I knew exactly what I wanted. I got it back and the dress looked exactly the same but was too small in the back due to a useless elastic the lady put there. The lady wasn't helpful in the slightest. read more

Never had my clothes tailored before so I thought I'd give it a shot. Walked in with 2 new brand new bras and told Lucy, front desk, that I needed to extend the back so it would wrap around me better and not be so tight. Also bought my own fabric for them as well which was not a problem. I TOLD HER that I needed 4 inches added. After taking my measurements SHE SUGGESTED, "might need 7 or 8". I said "oh, ok. That's fine" What was I supposed to say? I had never done this before and thought I'd leave it to the professionals so I agreed. After SHE SUGGESTED the 7 or 8 inches she immediately told me that they would have the move the hook, or snappers, all the way to the right side of the bra, "BECAUSE OF THIS," she says (she holds it up and I don't know what the hell that's supposed to mean). At this point I didn't get to tell her what I wanted ??? Again, like SHE SUGGESTED previously, I said "ok thats fine" because again, leave it to the professionals right? After I said that I ASKED if there was ANY WAY that we could put the fabric on each side of the hooks to keep it centered in the back. AGAIN, SHE SAID "NO THAT WOULDN'T WORK" so I said okay, I paid the $20, 10 for each bra, in advance, which she told me that I would not have to pay for until I picked it up, and left. 2 days later I picked it up and it was literally falling off of me. I took it back and it turns out that 11 inches was added to the back from the SUGGESTED 7 or 8; not a problem. I'm not mad. Everyone makes mistakes. They offer to fix it and I tell a different lady, because Lucy was off, that I wanted the original 4 inches that I came in for in the first place and not the SUGGESTED 7 or 8. No problem. Then I told her I wanted the fabric 2 inches on each side to keep the hooks centered like I asked for when I first came in and LUCY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NO WAY THAT WOULD WORK. They agree. Lucy calls me 3 days later and says they'll fix the length to the 4 inches but if I want 2 inches on both sides to keep the hooks centered that I would have to pay another $10 for each bra. Are you fuc*** kidding me! She told me that she couldn't do that in the first place! Then she tried to use my words against me and told me that I said it would be fine to have the hooks all the way on the side. Again, her fuc** suggestion before I even got to tell her what I wanted. Like I agreed that it would be fine with the 7 or 8 suggested inches I agreed to? In my defense I DID ASK FOR THE HOOKS TO BE CENTERED before I paid and she told me that it could not be done. She tried to use what I said against me so she wouldn't take the fall for it even though IT WAS HER FAULT by telling me that it couldn't be done even after I asked. She pulled a double standard. 7 days later I'm still waiting for the mistake to be fixed and the hooks will not be centered because I was not willing to be scammed. It only took 2 days the first time. What was so different about agreeing to her suggestion the first time from the second time, and then having to not pay for the first suggestion but having to pay for the second? I'll never go to another alterations place. I'll do it myself from now on; and they'll be a picture when I pick it up. I brought a pair of jeans to be taken up on the hem and for the waist to be taken in. I was told that it would be $20 for this. I thought that this was a little high, but I was in no mood to find another place to go to. I was told that the earliest it would be done would be in 5 days unless I wanted to pay for a rush job. No thanks I said. I picked up the jeans on the 6th day. The next morning I went to put them on and noticed that the waist line was not taken in. The white pencil marks were still there, but nothing was done. I went back to the shop and was told that it would be done in a few hours. No explanation or appology. A week later I was wearing the jeans and I noticed that the waist felt really lose again. The seam had completely opened leaving the back of my jeans opened. Completely embarassing. Again, back to the store I go. I was told that the waist on jeans is diffifcult to do and that I could get them the next day. If it was so difficult, then you should not have taken my $20 to do it! No offer of refund, money back, store credit, nothing! read more

My husband has his dress pants hemmed here and they always do a great job. So, after a botched job at a different place I took in my black dress pants to have the zipper replaced....again! It took 5 days and cost $16 dollars, I paid $12 for the messed up job at the other place, but AZ Alterations did a great job. The store could use some sprucing up and a more modern register but overall I am very satisfied with the customer service and quality of work. read more

I have used this establishment several times. I have to dress professional and bring in several dress pants, blazers shirts etc. I had two pairs of dress pants hemmed. Both pairs of pants had the hemm fall after 4 months. I brought the pants back to get fixed and they charge me full price. OK, I was not gonna make a huge deal about it. Since then I have brought 2 blazers to be altered, so far so good no issues. I work in a professional environment with typical business hours 8a-5p. So I needed to get a few pants hemmed before a business trip. Walked in at 5:45p, said I needed pants hemmed but they are all the same brand, all I need to do is try one pair on. The RBF lady said we are trying to leave and cannot help me. I asked what time do you close, she said 6P. Then she stated we don't` do fittings after 5:30p. I politely said thank you and left. If you are going to state the hours then service your customers those hours. I believe in supporting the local business. But the more I reflect it seems like every time I go in here, they act as if I am bothering them. Needless to say I am not going back. Screw this place! In February, I brought a Free People dress I purchased from here that needed a zipper replaced because the one on it was not sturdy enough and it split. I am told they will replace the zipper and it will cost me $20. No biggie, seems normal to me. So, I pick up my order a few weeks later, as I was in no rush to get the item as it was not needed for a few months, I was planning to wear it to a bridal shower in California in June. Fast forward to June, a week before the bridal shower, I finally try on the dress, as I am planning to wear it in a few weeks and I want to decide on shoes, the zipper breaks! I bring it in, and the women try and make me feel like it is my fault because I had to rip my way out the dress to take it off because of their botch job on replacing the zipper. She says she won't fix it for free but she will split the cost with me. Fine, I need the dress and I do not have time to find another dress. I get it back just in time (I am flying out Friday night and I get it back Friday at noon). I get to the bridal shower the next day and sure enough, the zipper splits AGAIN! I call, LIVID because I have now spent $30 on a zipper replacement to have the same outcome yet again? wtf! So today, I finally have time to stop in and I am immediately greeted with "oh, you are paying for this!" Excuse me?! You had one job, I asked for the zipper to be replaced and you use the same exact zipper as the one I asked to be replaced? I assume you were professional and knew what you were talking about and now I have to pay another $20 to have it fixed? Hell no! You did crap work and I am calling you out on it, this is not my fault, I want my money back and she refused and threatened to call the police if I do not leave. Wow, white privilege much?! How do you think you have the right to treat a paying customer horribly while also trying to fat shame me and say I am squeezing into a dress that clearly fits?! Safe to say, I will not be returning or referring anyone to this place. And I will for sure be reporting to the Better Business Bureau for their unlawful antics of trying to call the police because I requested a refund. read more

Any woman who has ever purchased on a dress online knows the nerve-wracking experience of sending your money to a company without really knowing whether or not you'll look like you belong on a red carpet or in a deli section with the rest of the sausages, replete with burst casings. But I digress... I got the dress last weekend and it was satin and sumptuous. I put it on and... a tad snug in the hips and my girls are swimming in at the bust (and it's not like I'm exactly small up top). GREAT! And I only need to wear it... FRIDAY! I looked all over the place to find reliable and fast alteration shops. Then I remembered this little place because it's in a plaza about five minutes away from my job. What the heck? Besides, I didn't have time to drive all over Greater Phoenix in the hopes of finding someone to fix the mess that was my dress. I took the dress in to AZ Alterations Monday afternoon. It's a simple, tidy little shop and the woman who helped me was sweet and upfront. She told me they could fix the bust with no problem, but letting anything out in the hips would likely result in little holes in the satin, along the seam, from where the thread had originally been sewn. It wasn't worth the risk, so I asked her to just take in the bust. (Insert crash diet and body shaper here.) She told me it would be $45, since it would have to be a rush job, but that it would likely be done Wednesday, so we would have time to make any last-minute adjustments. A tad pricey, in my opinion, but I had to consider the type of material, the fact that she had to deal with the zipper and keep that straight, and that I needed it expedited. As promised, she called me on Wednesday and I went right over to try on the dress. Not even the man who rammed his car into the side of mine as I was driving through the plaza could stop me! It slowed me down and required that I make an additional stop at a body shop and a rental car place right after I left AZ Alterations, but it didn't stop me!!! Yeah, that's right... *nodding slowly and raising my left eyebrow bad-assededly* When I finally got there (after exchanging insurance information with my parking lot archnemesis in the Mazda who clearly tried to ruin my afternoon... OK, he didn't really "try", but still...) and tried it on, it was still gapping a bit at the bust, so the seamstress said she would make an additional fix and that I could come back and get it before the store closed. Now the bust is a perfect fit. And even though I didn't bother to fuss with the hips for fear of jacked up result, that part fits great now, too, especially after not having any carbs since Monday, and buying the "almost life-threatening" level body shaper. All in all it was a great experience and the dress fits like a dream! Just be sure you watch out when you drive to get there because traffic in that plaza can be a nightmare. FYI, the shop's business card says they do "alterations for men, women & children... casual, evening, wedding & much more." They also do dry cleaning. read more

I have used this place many times but after my last experience I will never go back. They completely botched a brand new suit. The pants have had to be redone and the jacket never fit right. When I asked them to please fix it they said it looks "fine." On another jacket I had, I asked them to fix the arms and instead they let out the jacket making it worse. I suggest you use another place. They take too long and don't care to listen. Go elsewhere. read more

If I could, I would give 0 stars. I gave a blouse for just some alterations. Its not even big Making the blouse little tighter. They charged 12$ and I knew it was costly but still gave it. Blouse is not even 12$ worth. When I came back, It was still loose. Front desk person said she could alter and took the measurements again. She didn't even mention any extra charge. But when I came for pick up, she charged me again 6$. This is the worst place ever for customer service. I saw the same review previously. But I gave it because it was closer to other shops. I took my bridesmaid dress in 2 months before the big day. When I went in to pick up my dress the first time it didn't fit, it was too small. The owner told me that I must have "gained weight." They kept it and said they would fix it. When I went in to pick it up for the second time, it still didn't fit. At this point it is two days before the wedding so I told them it was unacceptable that my dress is still not fixed and I need it first thing tomorrow. When I go in the next day the owner says "you were rude to my employee and if you are rude to me I won't work with you." I told her that honestly you told me I was fat and this is the third time I have had to come in here to pick it up. She told me she would not help me and that I needed to leave. I tried on my dress and she wouldn't even help me zip it and it still didn't fit. Moral of the story, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. read more
