One of my wife's co-workers had hired Proper Painting and Home Improvements to do their similar home and were impressed with the results. My wife hired Dave and his team and they did the job quickly and correctly with an outstanding job on both the interior and exterior paint jobs. The results COMPLETELY changed the look and feel of the house, and, after new flooring went in, they came back and did the final touch up to ensure everything remained tied together. After 8 months, we decided to convert a former utility closet into a wine cellar. It formerly housed a large boiler and fuel tanks and was, to be frank, a disaster. Dave and his team came in, surveyed the requirements and then went to work. Not only did they do the priming and painting, they repaired loose concrete bricks, built a closet for the water heater and then did an outstanding job getting new tile flooring in. Our house is what we want, and it is largely because of Dave and his team.

Well, I can't say enough positive about Gust Renovations. They were punctual, clean, and super helpful. They did the work right, even when it meant it would take them longer, and provided advice as to how to make small improvements to increase the value of our house without spending alot of money. I haven't had the best luck finding honesty in the home improvement sector. These guys understand quality and affordability, and I highly recommend them. I've hired them to do additional work in and around our house-- more painting, replacement of floor tile, and work on our exterior fence. Will likely hire them to powerwash/stain our deck, too. They're very accessible and responsive, as well.

EDIT: I wrote a more detailed review here 11 days ago, but I got a Cease and Desist letter from a…read morelawyer representing Gust, so I took down the details they contested in the letter because I've decided I don't want to waste the time, energy and money, nor experience what I feel would be emotionally damaging to relive with this company in court. I hired Gust to install hardwood flooring in one of my rental units, which began falling apart immediately, without anyone ever occupying the unit (i.e., no furniture, just people walking through once in a while to estimate other work). I was told by Gust that it didn't need glue because it was a floating floor. However, the manufacturer's instructions were that it needed to be glued at the tongue and groove (which I verified after the install). Because that mistake was egregious, and because of how I felt about my interactions with them since planning the project in August until they installed the floor in January, I decided they didn't seem competent enough to come back and fix the floor. So at the point that I discovered that the floor had been installed incorrectly, I requested that they provide references that would prove successful work of this kind or that they subcontract to someone with references (though I recognize I obviously should've done that before I hired them). They ignored that request, instead asking that I meet with them at the unit to discuss how to fix the floor. In my opinion, that was unnecessary, since they had already admitted (in writing) to assuming incorrectly that the installation didn't require any glue even though the vendor's instructions were clear that it did require glue. They also suggested using a tape-like product in lieu of adhesive, but I contacted the vendor, who said that was inappropriate, so I decided not to allow them to do it. Instead of arguing this further with them and/or giving them a chance to redo the work (or possibly screw it up even worse), I chose to pay someone else to completely undo and redo the work they did. I've been investing in real estate for years and have dealt with many contractors. In my opinion, Gust Renovations was unprofessional and incompetent and I exhort you to find another contractor AND to ask for and thoroughly investigate references for any contractor you engage with.

Before the big move, I would only be in town a few days across multiple weeks but Alex met me at my home and on my schedule. I called and emailed 5 other handymen and explained in detail and with pictures what I needed done (kitchen cabinets, backsplash, crown molding in all bedrooms and living room, multiple window replacement, installing driveway lights) but Alex was the only one who came to see the house and he gave me a fair estimate that he stuck to. His expertise and professionalism were exactly what we were looking for especially since we had to manage the project remotely. Alex's advice on materials and his discount on paint at S Williams also helped save me some serious cash. These are the guys you're looking for. I'll be using them again when I redo my floors and finish my basement!

The guys did a great job and did a couple of extra small paint jobs without extra cost. They accidentally broke the glass on a lamp, but Alan made an effort to buy a replacement at IKEA. This wasn't necessary, but it was a great indicator of their consideration. We'll definitely use these guys for future paint jobs.

A few days later, his workers showed up, unannounced, asking what they needed to do. I told them I have no idea, and my husband is not home, and to coordinate a time with him. A few days later (on a Sunday), they showed up unannounced again! My husband was out again! They asked me to pick a paint color and I asked if that is included in the price we were quoted and they said they didn't know. As I was trying to figure that out, it came out that they don't think repairing the stairs is a good idea and they can't even guarantee they won't break again for even 3 days. I asked if it would be a lot more expensive to redo the whole thing and they said it would be exponentially more expensive. I told them we'll talk to Alex and get back to them. 30 minutes later, Alex calls my husband screaming at him! He told him that we shouldn't ask his contractors about prices and that he doesn't work that way and that we should find someone else to work with and hung up the phone on my husband! He was literally screaming at my husband on the phone. And then hung up on him. There are so many issues with our experience starting with the fact that the workers kept showing up without prior notice and asking a lot of questions as if they didn't know what they were supposed to be doing. And then of course the fact that he was trying to scam us into doing something that he knew might not even last the week. And then finally, calling my husband and screaming at him and hanging up on him because his workers were asking us a lot of questions?! It's just been an atrocious experience. I recommend avoiding him at all costs. UPDATE: Alex is now threatening my husband over text messages because of our review. We are just stating facts. He said we are inappropriate to contact him on a Sunday when it was his contractors who showed up at our doorstep, unannounced, on a Sunday, and we were just calling to clear things up with him because they had no idea what they were supposed to do and were asking me a lot of questions. He also accused us of trying to strike a deal with his subcontractors, something that didn't cross our minds for one second. Lofft was not the cheapest estimate I received but based on my meeting with Alex and previous reviews, I decided to hire them for my work. Very happy with my decision. The project began and ended exactly on schedule. Eric and Freddie were easy to work with, dependable, did a fantastic job and kept the worksite clean during the project.
