In making the decision to go solar, I spoke with representatives from ten companies. I eventually requested bids from five. AWS was by far the best choice for several reasons. First, they were 100% professional through every step, with Tim willing and capable of answering all of my questions. They were also Covid-safe. Salesmen from the other companies came off as sleazy and less than forthcoming about details of their offers. AWS was clear and honest from the start. Second, no part of the job was outsourced. Third, their warranty and price cannot be beat for the quality of panels and inverters that are used (one company I spoke with even claimed "we'll beat anybody else's bids, but when I sent them the AWS bid they never got back to me). Fourth, they could do the job quickly. Once we signed, we had solar installed within a month, and we were online a few weeks later. The app that lets you monitor your solar output is also easy to use and free. I would 100% recommend AWS. Their ratings are five stars for a reason. AWS Solar made the process of going solar easy--highly recommended! We finally decided to go solar. Not only for the lower energy charges and benefits to the environment, but also to take full advantage of the federal tax credit before it decreases in a couple of years. The Energy Sage site was very helpful for researching on-line and we were able to get several on-line quotes to get an idea of what it would cost for a system based on previous energy usage. We had contacted a few places, but decided to go with AWS Solar. Tim and Frank came to our house and, as others have said, wasted no time in finalizing a plan and formal estimate. They answered all of our questions, were responsive and very professional. The installation crew was polite, friendly, and capable. They did excellent work and left a clean worksite. AWS took care of all the permitting, inspection, and LADWP paperwork. It took about 2 months from signed contract to turning the system on (mostly waiting for LADWP), but was worth the wait--if only for watching the meter showing our new system sending power to the utility while the air conditioner is on! read more

I had originally narrowed down my choice for a solar panel installer without including AWS Solar. Luckily for me, I decided to include them. When interviewing the companies to decide who to use, I was most impressed with AWS. This is a very big decision to make due to the cost of the systems and my lack of experience with solar power. Spent a lot of time doing solar research and had several companies come out and make proposals. Went with AWS for their knowledge, price, and more importantly their patience. I called Tim numerous times with questions and he always had the answers and never grew weary of the calls/emails. AWS did a very good job designing and installing a home 4 kW system - thirteen 330 watt Panasonic panels with Enphase micro-inverters. The system was sized to produce 6,800 kWh in the first year. I picked three companies to bid on the project - two (including Tim Broughton at AWS Solar) through www.energysage.com and one local contractor. After reading reviews, I insisted on a micro-inverter approach but left the designs to the solar companies. Each of the companies claimed that installing atop my clay tile roof was not practical, and the project must include new roofing beneath the panels. Re-roofing raised the initial quotes from the EnergySage companies but in the end AWS Solar promised the best $/watt and almost the lowest overall cost. The project went surprisingly quickly. Tim originally promised completion within 6 weeks. In fact the job finished in two weeks, with barely three days on-roof time for Mario and his team. AWS handled city permits and inspection. Inspection finished yesterday. Throughout the process Tim did a good job keeping me informed. Today I'm watching my SCE net meter running backwards on a sunny afternoon. The system is delivering all the power expected. I recommend AWS Solar for residential owners with similar projects. read more

Small but mighty. AWS is a small, personalized company whose indidualized attention and thoroughness are really beyond expectation. I recommend 100%. Tim, the salesman, is very professional, excellent with follow up and keeping one updated. I had a tiny time window for installation and inspection to be completed and they worked within it and got the job done. It passed inspection without concern. Prior to installation the owner, Frank, Tim, and I discussed placement options and power desired. My desire for aesthetic placement of panels while meeting the sun power the units needed, was addressed in a way that met both needs. You will not be disappointed. I have had them for about 3 months, generate power in excess credits to be stored for summer and I can monitor my system from an app. Tim has kept and eye on the panels too. I used AWS as the installer on my solar project in July 2015. I was leaving on vacation and had scheduled the installation upon my return. However, they wanted to move up the installation schedule and I ended up trying to get ready for a big trip while they were installing the system and trying to get it to pass inspection (took 4 visits from LA County to get their worked signed off -- at least one of these visits required that I be home to allow the inspector into my house). This was not very convenient for me. Upon installation AWS sent me an email instructing me about turning on the system, which I followed TO THE LETTER. However, what AWS had failed to do (which they claimed in their email to me that they "ALWAYS DO" after I inquired as to why my system didn't seem to be operating properly) is throw the main breaker switch to the panel so that the system is ready to go when (in their email) they tell you just to toss the lever on the outside of the box. Needless to say, I followed their instructions and only discovered after 8 weeks when I wasn't seeing any change in my electrical usage that they had failed to throw the main breaker on the solar panel so that my panels weren't really connected to my electrical system. Now a year later, I've received my bill for the "true up" on my Net Metering Agreement -- $455... all from the 8 weeks last July/August when I thought I was connected (BECAUSE THEY "ALWAYS" LEAVE THE BREAKER IN THE ON POSITION AFTER THEY TEST THE SYSTEM"...) (NOT). Having solar has been such a great thing since we got through the installation process -- we would be Net Generators for the year had AWS done the job properly. Despite their error, they didn't offer to reimburse me for the additional expense I incurred as a result of their error. They never apologized or said they were sorry. They didn't acknowledge that their email was incorrect, or that they were in error in leaving the breaker to the panel in the OFF position despite their claims that they ALWAYS leave it on once they've tested the system. A bad technical experience, that cost me almost $500, as well as a terrible customer service experience for sure! read more

We started looking seriously at solar in 2016 and by early 2017 we decided to pull the trigger, to be able to get the 30% Federal Tax Credit. We went online to see which solar companies served the Los Angeles area and read some reviews. We narrowed it down to four companies and made appointments for them to come round to our home. Two of the companies that came out were really pushy and tried to "hard sell" us with a discount if we signed there and then. I am always wary of these sales tactics but AWS impressed us immediately because when Tim and Frank came they took time to check the roof and the electric panel, explain the whole process, analyze our needs from the bills we showed them, and even calculated the extra energy we would need for the Tesla we had ordered. They made us feel relaxed about taking our time and even encouraged us to do as much research and checking as we needed to do. I am glad that they did because after we checked the licenses (with California Contractors Board) we discovered that the first company that came had misled us about how long they had been in business! Although AWS weren't the cheapest (or most expensive!) we decided to go with them. They did all the paperwork for the permits and about three weeks later Luis and the team from AWS were installing on our home. We went with 22 Panasonic 330 watt panels in two arrays (south and east) with a Solaredge inverter. Unfortunately, we had to wait another three weeks after the install for LADWP to come and change the meter and allow us to turn the system on. I wanted to wait a full year to see how the system works and have not been disappointed. Over the year we have only paid the $12 fee with LADWP each month and still have credits for the excess energy we made. I am very happy about going solar and would recommend AWS to anyone who wants to have solar. read more

AWS installed my solar panels in 2 and 1/2 days. They worked all day, into twilight, cleaned up after they were done, were pleasant, and even did some extra painting of conduits that they did not install. I was thoroughly impressed with their professionalism and knowledge of solar systems. They even apologized for the noise when working on the roof which was totally unavoidable. Our house was a difficult one since it has several levels above the street and does not have good level footing for ladders. They improvised for safety and placed the inverters out of our view which meant more work for them. They got the city permits and the city inspector came out the day after they were done. Outstanding professionals! When I bought my house two years ago, it already had an "overrated" leased solar system installed, so I reached out to a few solar companies to get educated and get some quotes. Out of all AWS was the most helpful, very professional, knowledgeable and very informative, and didn't try to "push" me into replacing the whole system like some other companies. Had the house not have solar panels installed already, I would have absolutely used them to install a new system. After last years fires we had in the area, I noticed a decrease in energy production, so I reached out to them again. They advised getting the panels washed, as the performance is likely affected due to ash, dust, and other debris. Not only did they do a great job washing the panels - energy production increased by about 15%-20%, but also addressed some other issues with the now 5-year-old system that I wasn't aware including: replacing a defective bracket, adjusting and tightening a few other, replacing old tie wraps and a number of other things that they pointed out to me. I used AWS Solar to install my solar as part of a huge remodeling job I was doing on my Culver City home. For the remodel I explored and interviewed several contractors and vetted them all throughly, testing them with detailed questions about the materials and the process. I did exactly the same with the solar and AWS not only showed that they really knew their stuff but also were very patient, responsive and never gave the impression that they were tired of my questions and also my follow up calls. This professionalism showed in the installation. My budget didn't allow for a 100% of usage system so AWS designed a system that would maximize the energy from solar as well as explaining how I could save money with mindful time of use adjustments. The result has been excellent and my bills have actually averaged just the interconnection fee from LADWP so far. My system is 3.8 kilowatts with Canadian Solar panels and Solaredge inverter. The quality of installation was amazing with every part of the system expertly installed. I would definitely say AWS was the right choice for my solar. read more
