Something that should have taken no more than one week. But there was a delay at every turn. It took over 3 weeks (closer to a month) to complete. Again, it was a plain old tiled shower. Nothing complicated or extravagant. Keith was very apologetic with every delay but after the first couple it just got old. One day it was a broken down truck, another day "the computers were down" at the supply store. Time after time, he said he'd be there at 9 in the morning and then by afternoon I'd get a text saying he wasn't going to make it that day at all. Sometimes I wouldn't get any notification at all. Just an apology the next day. Either this guy has the worst luck in the world or he just has more work than he can handle. I would bet that another outfit could remodel an entire bathroom in less time than it took CTRF to do just the shower. Anyway, you be the judge. If you're o.k. having people traipse in and out of your house for almost a month just to redo your shower, then Keith might be your man. *His tile layer guy is awesome. That guy did a hell of a good job, and I bet it took him no more than 6 hours total. Just wish it hadn't taken 3 weeks to get to that stage.

He quickly identified that the problem was actually with our AC unit, but since I already had paid him $150 for a service call he offered to remove a satellite dish that my wife had been complaining about for free, so it was not a total loss. He personally met with my claim adjuster when he showed up, and pointed out everything that needed attention. With that being said, you should not limit yourself to a realty company just because they have a particular listing that you want. I've lived around the university for 5 years now, living in 5 different places each year, found by a different realtor each time. Most of them have been, bad, really bad, and absolutely terrible, but Austin City Realty did a good job. Our realtor was Jeremy, and we really liked him because he didn't make any assumptions as to what we would or wouldn't like, and he adjusted quickly to every new development in our needs. We started out looking for 3 bedrooms, and ended up with a 6-bedroom house. He showed us the most properties he could for each step up in bedrooms. The ideal house that we wanted was literally the house that he found for us, and for a 6-bedroom house near the university at a reasonable price, this is quite exceptional. On the outside, it looked like nothing we wanted, but he took us anyway, and I think that is what makes him a good person to work with. Our house is managed by Fairway Properties, which I believe shares an office with Austin City Realty. Candace is great at her job, which doesn't sound like much, but being good at your job in property management is an EXTREMELY rare gem. She answered questions, replaced broken appliances, and kept in contact with us throughout the whole process with accurate time estimates. Again, I want to iterate HOW EXTREMELY RARE it is to find this in Austin, especially around campus.

There had been no mention of this, no warning or anything. Now, there was a reason we were working with Austin City Realty - so that we WOULDN'T have to work with any other companies, which were all terribly rated. So it was an unpleasant surprise when we were suddenly shoved over to University Realty and made to wait for two weeks for any progress on the lease. In the end, we didn't sign the lease because the lease had ridiculous fees which no one had told us about, and we lost our deposit. What I'm saying is that working with Elliot was great, but he did not tell us that the property we were interested in was under another company or anything at all that gave us the slightest idea that we would be shuffled on over to University Realty UNTIL it was time to sign the lease. If we were able to stay with Austin City Realty, we probably would have had a much better experience than we did, but it just seems as though they didn't really care very much.

(One place quoted $900-1500 in comparison.) He was also able to set an appointment at my convenience. Day of the appointment, Carlos called to tell me his team was on the way. They actually got here 5 minutes early, something I'm not at all used to. After seeing the damage in person, the team said it didn't look as bad as originally thought, said it would take less time, labor, and materials than previously anticipated, and all of a sudden, the price lowered to $375. It was so odd to have a final payment of more than $100 lower than the original estimate, I got confused. Definitely honest and trustworthy. Within 2 hours, I had a new ceiling, with no sign anything had ever been wrong. The guys cleaned up everything and left my living room looking just as it had when they had arrived.

Trying to get a fence contractor in Austin seems to be nearly impossible. I called several…read morecompanies and got no return phone call. Another contractor did not want to work around the trees in my fence line and so recommended Gary Mullins. Gary returned my calls and rapidly came out to give an estimate. We had to wait a few weeks to get into his schedule and the job took a day or two longer than he'd estimated, but it was well worth it. Gary and his team installed a beautiful new cedar fence with metal poles and screws in 2/3 of my backyard. He billed the quote and threw in an "extra part of the fence that I didn't need replaced mistake" for free. They cleaned up after themselves and were easy to work with. He is so easy to work with and talk to that I felt like he's an old buddy of mine helping me out giving advice on the work to be done. He got his crew together a few weeks later when I was ready and they did an awesome job. He had told me his materials and fence were of much higher quality than my neighbors, etc. and I took his word for it. Well, when it was all said and done, it was night and day. The fence was not only of a much higher quality than I thought in composition, but the way he made it flush and trimmed each board so that it would be completely even was beyond anything we had discussed. He went far above and beyond my expectations and he did it out of pride for his work. As a Real Estate Broker, I sometimes need to get estimates for clients that need to fix their homes to get them ready to sell. Well a few weeks later I called Gary to get an estimate and he drove down to my client's house the next day and spent 45 minutes measuring and gave us a very accurate estimate on how much it would cost to transform a backyard. He didn't ask for any fees and he does not push any sales. My clients were very happy with his estimate and his prompt response. Again, I'm very grateful for finding Gary and I stand behind his work.
