    Mezze platter

A very beautifully designed restaurant -- we sat on the porch. Shared the mezze platter with a friend where we chose five different selections and all were really great. Very friendly service. A lovely spot in Aspinwall!

Mix Meze - left is babganush, top is Ezme, right is Trikafteri, bottom is Haydari, center is Hummus.

Went to dinner here with some friends and it was SO GOOD! Gorgeous restaurant & even better food. When I go back I will try to go with 3 other people again and get the exact thing we ordered. They have all these different dips (the meze section of the menu) and you can get 5 of them for $25 -- so worth it and quite literally some of the best dips I've ever had. So fresh. So flavorful. The 4 of us split the Mix Grill for 2 and the Beyti and everything was phenomenal. Never had Bulgur before but it was flavorful and would definitely recommend trying it! I've actually never had most of the things I ate here before and was very impressed.

Starting w a 5/5 but may change once I revisit. Will start by saying there was no lot to park in but there was street parking available. Kitchen also closes at 8:30 when it's not peak months. For the experienced, there are so many mezes that look great. I shared the babaganush and it was excellent. Really don't think you could go wrong. My friend order the chicken kebabs, which seemed average. I had the beyti and it was phenomenal. One of my favorite meals the past few months. So much flavor and beautiful presentation. There were a few more items that caught my attention so I hope to come back and try out more.

Stopped in on a whim to Avva with my mom and we were immediately seated and served by staff. We sat outside on the patio which had a refreshing atmosphere. The food was so delicious and tasted fresh. I will definitely be back.

Got the mezze platter that comes with your choice of 5 cold dips. And then shared the mixed grill for 2 for the entree with of course, baklava for dessert. Everything was delcious, the hummus was smooth and the addition of the pomegranates brought just enough freshness. The ezme is to die for! They mentioned it was spicy, I didnt think so but out of all the dips, it was the spiciest option. Out of the grill, the lamb chops and the lamb kebab were my favorite. The baklava was also great, comes with 4 pieces so definitely perfect to share. The servers were so courteous and offered samples of wine and even the bulgur to make sure we would be satisfied. Very attentive. The ambiance is very clean, its a small interior with alot of outdoor seating but cozy and modern.

10/31/2025 Ate list: Beyti w/ Bulgur - 7.6 This spot is great. Indoors is quaint and homey. Staff is incredible kind. I'll be honest, what I order was not at all what I expected to be delivered to me. The description read like a tomato featured Gyro but what arrived looked like a Beef Wellington platter. Caught me off guard. However, taste was great. The quantity of food was perfect. Was pleasantly surprised by this one and this spot.

We stopped at Avva yesterday afternoon about 3 Pm. It was between brunch and dinner and not busy. We sat at the table next to the fireplace and it was warm and inviting! Our waitress, Ashley was delightful! We ordered a bottle of wine, hummus and a lamb shiskabab. The hummus was delicious and the lamb came with salad and large scoop of bulgur. We got three skewers of lamb and it was charred perfectly and had great flavor. The warm pita bread was also very good and went well with our meal. Ashley was very attentive and answered any questions we had. I think we found our place to go after any visit to St Margaret's. Thanks again Ashley!

AVVA took me on a trip to Italy last night with a fabulous Italian wine and cheese tasting event! Wow! What a fun night! We learned all about the 6 featured wines from across Italy from Fred Magnotta, from F. Magnotta LLC. I haven't had this much outstanding wine since I took a trip to the Napa Valley! Of course I had to get the scrumptious lamb chops, my absolute favorite at AVVA. All of the food is delicious so it is worth a trip to try them with a glass of Fred's wine!

I went to dinner with a friend and we both loved it. We ordered a dip platter and got babaganush, htipiti, Greek style hummus, piyaz and trikafteri. My personal faves were the htipiti and trikafteri. Then we ordered the chicken and beef kebabs and shared those. They were both good I can't decide which I liked better. Then we got to try tge dessert and they were so good!! I can't wait to go back. The staff was so nice. We sat on the front porch and it was great.

Mediterranean Cuisine in Aspinwall serving fresh, flavorful dishes including mezze platters, grilled meats and seafood, and classic Turkish desserts. The outdoor seating is especially lovely, and the space has a warm, inviting feel. Vegan options are quite limited outside of salads and mezze (no falafel nor grilled veggies) but the quality and ambiance make it a nice neighborhood spot to enjoy. Really lovely service, too.

This was a great spot! We liked the different options for seating: covered outdoor, uncovered outdoor, indoor, etc. The service was pretty timely and straight forward. Food was fresh and flavorful. The decor was very warm and inviting. I'd definitely come back and have already recommended it to others!

Glad I gave this place a try! Really cute neighborhood Mediterranean spot. Definitely make a reservation, especially on a Friday or Saturday night. A friend and I had the chicken shish kebab and the lamb shish kebab. Both meats were cooked perfectly and the portion size was good. Service was friendly and fast. Can't wait to go back!

I visited Avva with my family on a Sunday afternoon and had a great experience. We got a table immediately and enjoyed the nice weather in the porch. Our server was extremely kind (I wish I could recall his name) and quick to get us everything we needed. The brunch menu was available, so I had an omelette and my parents both got Greek salads. Everything was very fresh and tasted incredible! Don't skip out on the meze either - we tried the haydari and trikafteri and they were delicious. Highly recommend!

Examples of menu items are lentil soup, babaghanoush, falafel, shepherd salad, lamb chops, many kebabs, sea bass, sautés, house-made desserts such as baklava, and non-alcoholic beverages. My husband and I ate one lunch here. Indoor and covered outdoor seating was available. The employees promptly greeted and seated us, and I appreciated that they recommended specific menu items to help me choose. After a reasonable wait, the foods were brought to our table. Here are my ratings for what we ordered: Grilled Shrimp - 5 stars - Several large, juicy shrimp were on skewers and had been perfectly cooked. Sides were mixed vegetables and a mix of rice and bulgur. Chicken Shish Kebab - 4 stars - The chunks of chicken were large and juicy and had a mild seasoning. On the side was rice pilav. Turkish Tea - 4.5 stars - This black tea was a good size and was served hot. Packets of sweeteners were available. The total price was $55 plus tax and tip.

Falafel appetizer was very, very hard and chewy. Even with a serrated knife it was difficult to cut! Shepherd Salad was fresh but was mostly red and green bell peppers. Very little tomato or cucumber or onion which I was expecting. Not their fault but mine for not knowing about this salad. Again they were super nice and offered to take it back. Donor Kebab was over cooked. Dry. Chewy. Tzatziki sauce was fine. I ordered two extra mini-cups of tzatziki to help me finish the donor kebab. (Extra $1). Bread was very good. I ordered the Turkish Tea but it never came : (

The space is tiny and unassuming, and the restaurant seems to be a family run operation. The interior is much more nicely kept than you might guess based on the outside of the building. The staff were very friendly, and all of our food was well packaged. I strongly suggest taking a look at the "Persian Cuisine" section of the menu; in many cases, that section is more interesting than the Turkish grill. In terms of food, things ranged from excellent to pretty good. The hummus was good and nicely textured, but not exceptional. The kashke ve bademjan was excellent, particularly when paired with the nicely toasted flatbread it arrived with. The Mediterranean salad and Tabouli salad were both nicely done, with a nice level of lemon acidity and some shredded cheese on the side. The veggie kebap was fine, but generally flat in flavor: it really needed some of the sides and some hot sauce to fill things out. The red lentil soup was simple with a subtle spicing but ultimately deeply flavorful. The ash reshteh (noodle soup with beans and spinach) was generally good but would have benefited from toppings that would have probably been provided in a dine-in environment. All told, this was a nice little establishment with some excellent Mediterranean and Persian style cuisine. They seem to churn out some high quality food from what seems like a very small kitchen. I could imagine eating in or ordering takeout, but note that the interior space is fairly small with a limited capacity.

Our fave foodie neighbor recommended this over highly-rated Med Table (still haven't tried that place yet, so our verdict is out!). Overall, our meal was really good (not great). Appetizers: hummus & baba gannouj were tasty. We opted for their "regular" size which has given us plenty of leftovers! (Other options: small & large). Hummus was the fave; I've definitely had more flavorful baba. We opted to toast all the mounds of huge pita that came with the meal, though. We're not fans of cold, "raw" pita with dips. Entrees: I got the Genie's combo plate - a couple of interestingly spiced , though somewhat dry chicken thighs (spice called "mishwi" - seemed almost like a Berbere-type seasoning w/ cinnamon in the profile) on a bed of basmati & a helping of tasty, crunchy pickled turnips & Lebanese salata (like Mediterranean pico de gallo). The standout item on this place - far and away - was the roasted, spiced cauliflower. I would have that ALONE - no chicken. I liked the dish, overall, but it didn't knock my socks off. I would look for solo-cauliflower next time. Hubs got the Shish Tawook rolled pita - he really enjoyed the grilled chicken with pickled turnip and excellent homemade garlic sauce. He said he'd def reorder. Top tip - get that garlic sauce (if u like garlic). It's AMAZING. No dessert for us, though what an impressive list they have! We'll definitely return to try some other options.

The dirty martini was fairly pungent and strong so not sure I would get it again but I'm also not big on dirty martinis so probably just the wrong choice on my part. But the food was the star of the show. We ate so many good dishes- starting with the rainbow platter. Loved the baba ghanoush and the roasted cauliflower - those were my favorite of the 7 dishes on the platter. It's got a nice location on the central road in Squirrel Hill, but it's a bit hard to find parking. When I got there, I got to try their shish tawouk (chicken kabob), mujadara, salad with feta, and iced mint tea. The tea was pretty alright. Refreshing and a nice mint flavor; I think they might make the blend in house. They also brought out some nice pita before we started the meal. For my main course, I ordered the shish tawouk. You usually get this meal with the rice pilaf, but they were out, so I got to try the mujadara. I'm actually quite glad! The chicken was tender, and the portion was very fair. They served it with a nice tomato sauce, but I also asked for some garlic sauce on the side. The sauces both seem to be homemade, and definitely go well with the chicken. The mujadara was surprisingly delicious. They top the dish with crispy sweet onions. It's a mix of lentils and some other grain. Very good! One thing to mention generally is this place closes quite early, usually around 8 or 8:30 PM, so do keep it in mind. It is also very clearly a family endeavor, with the mom managing most of the tables and the kids always helping out. Very nice place!
