The door is next to Creative Reuse's on N Lexington Avenue. On the second Saturday of every month, the Pillow Project invites people to come and enjoy a lounge atmosphere of dance, live jazz music, and performances involving mixed-media. Alongside that, the space is used for many other events as well, each group giving it its own special charm. I've seen classes, clothing drives, photoshoots, and many other types of events use the loft. The space itself is gorgeous, with the modern coolness you'd expect from a loft belonging to a performance art troupe, combined with the history of Pittsburgh - since it is attached to Construction Junction, you can be sure that just about everything up here has been repurposed. The large windows let tons of natural light in, and the hardwood floors are gorgeous. Scattered over the space there are a few extremely unique pieces of art including a busted up mattress hanging on the wall and a laptop with a tree growing out of it. There is a large bar off to one side infront of two small openings that look down over Construction Junction. Old couches and tables are scattered throughout the space for seating and a small raised platform, infront of the multimedia control center, is also sometimes used for seating. The only problem with the space is that it is somewhat of a weather permitting space - You really feel it in here when it's hot or cold outside. There are huge heaters on the ceiling for the winter but they're very uneven, so beneath them it's burning, and not too far away it's cold again. But that's what you get when you're in such an old building, it's a really minor complaint. There is also a small waiting area downstairs right inside the door. So if you're looking to catch a cool performance, come on the second Saturday of any month and check it out. If you're looking for a neat event space, be sure to ask the Pillow Project for details. And now I can finally check in to the right place

We were a little early for check-in and everyone was so welcoming while we waited. We stayed in a standard queen bed room, which had a fireplace and large closet and bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and everything was clean. We were there for a wedding and the venue coordinator, Zach, did a great job with making sure everything was set up. There was another party going on the evening we stayed the night and you could hear it clearly from our room. Thin walls and floors is the downside of staying in a historical building.

I stayed in one of the king bed rooms the night before a wedding and it was a wonderful experience. The room got a little cold at night, so we decided to sleep with the fireplace on. The fireplace in the hotel room was a nice, cozy touch. If you are handicapped, or have trouble with stairs, definitely let the hotel staff know. There is one elevator in the building that only goes to level 2. The venue coordinator for the wedding was also fantastic to work with!

The photos honestly speak for themselves. This venue is a beautiful, blank slate that you truly can design into your dream wedding space. We had 85 guests with a seated dinner (but I believe a seated dinner can accommodate up to 100). AND - the beautiful wooden farm tables, any rounds or buffet tables you may need, the chairs, and a bar set up are included in the rental price! I just cannot recommend this space enough if you are looking for a more intimate, naturally beautiful space. Photos: Solich Photo + Film

The space itself is supposed to be a backdrop for whatever you want, a blank slate, so to speak, for you to decorate however you wish. The walls are exposed brick, so there's kind of a rugged and historic look. The staff was very professional and friendly, and I must give them credit for a very well run event. They let you choose your own caterer and beverage manager, but they can provide a sound system, chairs, tables, and staffing. I was a bit surprised there was a $150 cleaning fee, I figured that would be rolled into the rental fee.

Let's get the one problem out of the way: Our only issue was that the host was incredibly cold and seemed very irritated with us, which we were not used to. We tried to joke and interact in an upbeat way, but they almost seemed to be repulsed by us and annoyed that we were talking to them. We had a reservation, so we really didn't have a choice. I suggest Spirit find a different position for that host, as good of a person as I am sure they are, they don't seem to like people at all. I am taking off a star because of the host being a complete buzzkill to the beginning of our experience. Who you hire matters! Where is 3D Mark or someone who loves to play and makes you feel like family? As for the food, five stars. We loved Chef Raf's pop-up! We loved that it felt like a beautiful combo of Spirit's pizza kitchen with Raf's high quality filipino flavors! The drinks were good. We were delighted at the vegan options and all of the cool nonalcoholic drinks. LOVE. The atmosphere was also super cool. Lots of plants, a moose horn, a bear head mascot mask thing, windows with natural light that slightly look out onto the street. It's not that big of a space in the room we were, but there's one big booth in the back that can sit maybe 7 people if you squish.
