What I found most charming though was the business' story. The building is actually a retrofitted home, like many cafes in Pittsburgh. We learned a ton and now know how to shuck oysters. The space is gorgeous and they have a cute gift shop plus a lot of sample granite/quartz/butcher block, since that is Vangura's main business. The venue did not try to push sales of their products at all. We were there for the event and it was fantastic. It is BYOB as well. We will be signing up for future classes. That is the case with this space right here. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but once you enter the doors you are amazed by everything. For my review I can only attest to the downstairs portion of this place as that was where the event was held. The upstairs, from what I can tell from pictures from their website, looks cozy and welcoming. The downstairs is a big space that you can hold quite the event in it. It may not look big from the outside, but once you are inside you can tell that there is more than enough space for any even to be had. On other thing about the downstairs portion is that you have a small deck area to hang out on near the entrance which adds to the size of this place. Lighting can be controlled so if you want to have an intimate area all you need to do is dim the lights. Ample space for a DJ to set up, buffet table and dance floor, and still have room for many tables for your guests. The only thing that might need some work here is the people that work the front door. They weren't so welcoming and it felt like there was some judging going on when this was your first visit to the establishment. Some of the guests that attended the party I was at felt as if they weren't welcome as well when being told that this is a "social club" instead of asking if they knew where there were to be going. Some simple signage might help in the future as to what party is being held where.

The atmosphere and food were wonderful. However, for $125, I hoped for larger portions. It was nice this event was BYOB, but they also offer other dinners with wine pairings (for a higher price). It was a colder night, and we had to ask the staff to turn on the outdoor heat lamps and lower the curtains to keep warm. After that, it felt very comfortable. Unfortunately the seating is less to be desired - very small wooden chairs on gravel and our table had 8 seats that barely fit. But that's farm life, right? You have to walk up a fairly steep hill that's half paved, half gravel. You can be dropped off at the top if you have mobility issues. Also, there's only one bathroom - a modern outhouse - and typically a line to wait since their events cater to 60 people. Overall, a wonderful experience! My most urgent feedback is to offer more food for the price of dinner.

The service was a little slow overall, that can be OK, but everyone got their main entree before the family style sides. We were one of the earlier ones to be served and it was probably 25 min before we got our sides. They were then like a veggie dessert course because we couldn't let the main meal just sit. It is pricey but they say a portion does go to continuing to support the farm.

For $35 a person, we got a ton of food with delicious Tea Forté tea and a lovely set up with the cutest cups, plates, and teapots. They do high tea on the second Sunday of each month. Calling and making a reservation was super easy and they worked carefully to cater to any allergies or food preferences our party of 10 had (they switch up the menu each month!). They took my credit card information down ahead of time on the phone so all I had to do was sign the check at the end of high tea. There's also a large designated parking lot for patrons on an adjacent block. They took the time to show us their outdoor space and I can't wait to come back and check it out when it's warmer!

We originally had another wedding venue booked, but when we visited the Mayernik we knew we had to make the switch. We chose a Friday afternoon because we able to save a little bit of money, but also book other locations on the property to make it a full day experience for our guests. The Mayernik has some suggested vendors, but the only requirement is from choosing from one of their 3 food vendors. We tried each over time and settled on Remo's...who created an amazing meal for us. It was high quality and reasonably priced. Our wedding ceremony was at 1230, followed by a brunch reception. For the ceremony we opted for the extra cost of chairs to be set out and I'm glad we did. It was a beautiful day and I would have been uncomfortable forcing everyone to stand during our ceremony. After the reception, we invited a few guests to an after party at The Cabin, one of the smaller locations on the property. Leading up to and throughout the day, Jennifer was attentive and made sure all our details came through without us worrying. She even helped organize and pack things up at the end of the night. I was never worried during the experience and knew she had it handled. If I had to do it again, I'd pick the Mayernik as our choice venue. What a great day to remember!

I originally worked with the event coordinator Shannon, who was wonderful: very accommodating, available and informative. She notified me that she was leaving her job as event coordinator approximately 2 weeks before my wedding! I was a panicked bride after hearing this...what a nightmare! Shannon made our transition to Suzi, another event coordinator at the Center, extremely smooth. Although Shannon was pleasant to work with, I am so happy to have had Suzi coordinate my event. She is extremely personable, accommodating and flexible. I really felt like she was there for me on my wedding day. She took care of everything, from the last minute decision to move the ceremony inside to fluffing my train before I walked down the isle. She helped us clean up at the end of the night and my family and friends all loved working with her. The Mayernik Center is difficult to reserve, so I would plan to book at least a year ahead, preferably more if you want a Saturday date. I had a Friday wedding and would recommend it if all the Saturdays are taken. We did not have a DJ, but used the Mayernik Center's sound system to play music. It worked perfectly. The only reason I am not giving the Center 5 stars is that they do not have chairs available for outside ceremony's, which makes outside ceremony's very difficult. If you are looking around for an event location in the North Hills check out the Mayernik!
