Inform any guests who are not in the party group that there will be a party so they can decide to stay here or not. 4. A gorgeous view of the beautiful hills in Pittsburgh and a winding river. The estate/mansion itself is beautiful stone with slate tile roofing. It truly feels like a castle tucked away on a private villa. I've photographed many weddings over the years but Longue Vue will go down in history as having one of the best staffs I've experienced. Any time myself or either of the other two photographers had a question - we were quickly given an answered and offered any additional help we'd need. And, a perk - we only had to ask about our dinner twice. (Wedding photographers know this is a game changer and a far cry from the usual 3 or 4 times I need to ask the staff for a plated dinner on any given wedding day.) After asking the second person about our dinner, we were served within one minute by an incredibly kind waiter with a smile on his face. We were also served drinks (seltzer for my second photographer, pop for me) during "non-serving" hours by a nice bartender who immediately understood that we hadn't been able to grab drinks earlier and knew how thirsty we must be. Both the bartender and server checked on us during our meal (which we were eating in the living room, away from guests) to ensure we had every single thing we could possibly need. The gentleman who lead us around on the golf carts was also a stellar employee. I cannot say enough great things about him. The ONLY downfall is that the archways are a really popular spot for portraits. (Rightfully so. They're gorgeous!) But they are also the main entrance and exit from the parking areas, so there are regularly cars going through them. If you are a bride/groom and want your photos specifically there - plan ahead. Plan for extra time for those portraits to allow for the time cars need to go through and then for your photographer to set up the shot again. I look forward to visiting again soon.

We had an event scheduled weeks in advance with family traveling in from out of town, only to be canceled on with less than 24 hours' notice. That left us scrambling to find another venue at the last minute. No amount of communication or payment seems to guarantee your booking here. I recommend looking elsewhere--local fire halls, for example, are more reasonably priced and provide better, more dependable space.

The Space Upstairs is a loft space above Construction Junction that is home to the (post)modern…read morejazz dance company The Pillow Project. The door is next to Creative Reuse's on N Lexington Avenue. On the second Saturday of every month, the Pillow Project invites people to come and enjoy a lounge atmosphere of dance, live jazz music, and performances involving mixed-media. Alongside that, the space is used for many other events as well, each group giving it its own special charm. I've seen classes, clothing drives, photoshoots, and many other types of events use the loft. The space itself is gorgeous, with the modern coolness you'd expect from a loft belonging to a performance art troupe, combined with the history of Pittsburgh - since it is attached to Construction Junction, you can be sure that just about everything up here has been repurposed. The large windows let tons of natural light in, and the hardwood floors are gorgeous. Scattered over the space there are a few extremely unique pieces of art including a busted up mattress hanging on the wall and a laptop with a tree growing out of it. There is a large bar off to one side infront of two small openings that look down over Construction Junction. Old couches and tables are scattered throughout the space for seating and a small raised platform, infront of the multimedia control center, is also sometimes used for seating. The only problem with the space is that it is somewhat of a weather permitting space - You really feel it in here when it's hot or cold outside. There are huge heaters on the ceiling for the winter but they're very uneven, so beneath them it's burning, and not too far away it's cold again. But that's what you get when you're in such an old building, it's a really minor complaint. There is also a small waiting area downstairs right inside the door. So if you're looking to catch a cool performance, come on the second Saturday of any month and check it out. If you're looking for a neat event space, be sure to ask the Pillow Project for details. My husband had to wedge himself in and barely fit in the seat. When he asked if there were other options, he was told we could sit in the table seating in the back, but we had purchased VIP to sit up close, so he decided to just be a bit uncomfortable rather than be at the back of the theater. I know theaters have tight space and other considerations, but considering they were remodeled not all that long ago, I was surprised about the seat size. The bathroom situation is also a bit of an issue. You need to go downstairs and the set up is a bit strange. There aren't many stalls, and the layout makes it awkward for getting in and out, especially if there is a line. All that being said, it is a lovely theater with friendly staff and fairly affordable concessions. I just wish the seating was more comfortable.

Green Oaks has a very nice pool with outdoor lunch seating, well maintained clay tennis courts, & a beautiful golf course. The club has a very accommodating staff, and friendly members. Drive time from Shadyside/Squirrel Hill area is only 15 minutes. Green Oaks is a hidden treasure. I joined last year as a tennis member & continued this year. In my opinion, this Club & Pike Run C.C. are the true definitions of quality "country" clubs.
