Steak Diane (the nightly dinner special)
Rachael R.

As faculty and alum from the University of Pittsburgh, I was excited to become a member of the University Club. I have since been here three times for drinks/snacks/meals and have enjoyed every experience! Make sure you make reservations for these member only dining options. I've sat at the rooftop bar when the weather is good. The views of the cathedral are awesome and the drinks and appetizers we had were amazing. I've also had just drinks in the college room, and highly recommend all their custom cocktails. It's a very comfortable bar space with good tables as well. Last week we finally came for dinner and we were SO impressed with the food. We had the poutine and antipasto board for appetizers and they were great. The poutine was amazing (we subbed for all russet potato fries instead of half sweet since some of our party didn't like sweet potatoes). We also all had a variety of cocktails which were fabulous. The entrees were top notch. Great portions and not too pricey. Some had the club sandwich which was huge and had a egg which was a nice touch. They said the bread was nice and buttered and crispy and the sandwich was great. I had the short rib entree and it was so delicious. Others in our party had the steak Diane which was a special for the evening and loved it as well. Our service was top notch. We will definitely be back!

My plate of food and delicious mimosa in the background!

I had the opportunity to come to the University Club with my boyfriend and his mom for Easter brunch this year! I have been to the University Club before for events and receptions, but never for brunch! Since my boyfriend's mom is a member here and has been for years, we were able to come for their talked up Easter brunch! The building is gorgeous- as most Pitt buildings are in my opinion. The room where brunch was held was spectacular- decorated for Easter and very sunny and bright! It was the perfect setting for an Easter brunch. It was also PACKED. My boyfriend's mom made the reservations late, so we were able to squeeze in during the last time slot available! Let me tell you.. the food selection was impressive. Cakes, pies, cookies, smoothies, omelettes made to order, smoked salmon, bagels, fruit, ham, bacon, sausage, scalloped potatoes, veggies... they had it ALL! There was also a huge selection of drinks as well- tea, coffee, juices and MIMOSAS. Of course, I had to have a mimosa and it was amazing. As far as the food goes, I wasn't that impressed with how everything tasted. The scalloped potatoes tasted like they were from a box, the ham was good was a little dry, the bacon was OK and the raspberry cheesecake was decent. Nothing was bad by any means- everything was good, but it wasn't amazing. For the price per person, I should have been blown away. Honestly, I am not the biggest fans of buffets considering it's difficult for food quality to be top notch when it's been sitting out for hours, so maybe if I had the chance to try their food fresh I would have a different opinion. Regardless, I enjoyed my meal and had a great time during Brunch. The service was great and the presentation was beautiful. I would definitely visit again.

went to a nice retirement dinner here. The rooftop view was nice, albeit a bit too sunny at the time. the service and food was also great.

The door is next to Creative Reuse's on N Lexington Avenue. On the second Saturday of every month, the Pillow Project invites people to come and enjoy a lounge atmosphere of dance, live jazz music, and performances involving mixed-media. Alongside that, the space is used for many other events as well, each group giving it its own special charm. I've seen classes, clothing drives, photoshoots, and many other types of events use the loft. The space itself is gorgeous, with the modern coolness you'd expect from a loft belonging to a performance art troupe, combined with the history of Pittsburgh - since it is attached to Construction Junction, you can be sure that just about everything up here has been repurposed. The large windows let tons of natural light in, and the hardwood floors are gorgeous. Scattered over the space there are a few extremely unique pieces of art including a busted up mattress hanging on the wall and a laptop with a tree growing out of it. There is a large bar off to one side infront of two small openings that look down over Construction Junction. Old couches and tables are scattered throughout the space for seating and a small raised platform, infront of the multimedia control center, is also sometimes used for seating. The only problem with the space is that it is somewhat of a weather permitting space - You really feel it in here when it's hot or cold outside. There are huge heaters on the ceiling for the winter but they're very uneven, so beneath them it's burning, and not too far away it's cold again. But that's what you get when you're in such an old building, it's a really minor complaint. There is also a small waiting area downstairs right inside the door. So if you're looking to catch a cool performance, come on the second Saturday of any month and check it out. If you're looking for a neat event space, be sure to ask the Pillow Project for details. And now I can finally check in to the right place

Boiler room management provided the host with a room and key for keeping our valuables. Few of the ladies who were at the party kept their handbags in this room and locked. After the party is over, we went to pick the bags and noticed that someone opened the lock and robbed the handbags. There were a total of 5 ladies handbags and one of the guy's wallet were stolen. There was also a suit case missing which makes us think that the robber kept all these handbags in the suit case and left. Their office manager was feeling really bad at the time of incident. He looked into the cc tv footage next day and saw a person walking away with the suitcase. We were informed that they have liability insurance and not to worry. Later, the insurance company informed us that Boiler room's insurance policy doesn't cover theft. Just want others to be aware of this.
