I guess I have to continue this one star streak, I paid for my car in advance via Expedia (package rate for a hotel/car/flight) and I have never had to wait so long to pick up my car. It took longer to get the car then getting off a plane, picking up luggage all with an infant. There was only one guy working the desk and it took over an hour. A week prior I called about renting a infant car seat ( thought I would save myself the hassle) they said it wouldn't be a problem and the seat would be installed prior to pick up. Well that was not the case, after waiting an hour for a car we were handed a car seat, after trying for 20 minutes to install a car seat I was not familiar with I tried to find someone from Avis to help, I barely tracked a employee done and he told me "we can't put the car seat in due to liability". So I get that but they should have instructions on how to put them in because I had to resort to YouTube 20 minutes later.... not the best experience and I should have done my research and went with a different vendor read more

I'm not even going to rate them. Aida behind the desk was disrespectful and wore a blouse so tight I'm surprised the buttons didn't pop!! She also stated that if we didn't show receipts to prove the gas tank was full when we returned it we were going to be charged $9.95/gallon. To allow a second driver, they were going to charge an additional $13/day. Upon returning the car, Avis was closed (Sunday after Thanksgiving), and they were still going to charge us an additional $28 because their DEFECTIVE scanner wasn't reading the gas gauge correctly. I would give this location zero stars if I could. I just dropped a car off with the gas tank full but the employee (Peter) checking the car in attempted to charge me for has because I didn't have the receipt. First of all - at no point in my rental process did the person who rented me the car tell me that was a requirement. Second of all - the tank was full, I've obviously been the one with he car for a day and I am obviously the one who paid to fill it up before returning it. After giving me a ridiculous lecture (delaying me at the airport when I had a tight schedule to keep) Peter decided to "waive" the fee but only after insulting me including calling me a jerk. Not only was this a terrible example of customer service and completely unnecessary, I also feel it was sexist as I promise you there is no way Peter would have given the same condescending lecture to an older man. I will absolutely never rent from this company again. I know this review won't do anything to their business as they're in a high traffic airport location but hopefully someone there takes at least a little bit of pride in their business and will make sure employees are taught not to treat customers the way I was treated this morning. read more

Why is there no option for zero stars? Worst car rental experience ever - counter staff has no customer service skills. Rude, condescending, purposefully mean. Refused my upgrade, told me no availability, but could make me a deal for an upgrade at my expense. What? Do I look like an idiot? You just told me you had no availability for my free upgrade! I'm a business owner and travel frequently, most often using Capital One Venture. The same upgrade, which was denied me today, was provided to us at the Buffalo airport Avis last month over the Columbus Day holiday weekend. Curiously, this location also seems to have a required charge for fuel of a minimum of $13.99, even if you bring back the car full, unless you provide them a receipt - never ran into this before, but check the other review on this site for verification. I got the rental car, a Toyota Yaris, and there was no walk around process to look for damage. Drove it to my hotel, less than 1/2 mile from the airport rental garage, and in the light of day, I notice a large dent in the rear door and scratches on the front bumper. I drove it right back to the airport, had the guy in rental return aisle note the damage, and was sent back inside to wait in line again to see the counter person. Nice try folks, you knew my flight was at 6am and I would be dropping the car off before you opened and you thought you could make me pay for the damage and the fuel cost! By now, as you might assume, I'm not happy. I demanded a refund, my documents marked void and the authorization taken off my credit card. The counter person is now saying she wants to make me happy and will put me in another car. You had your opportunity to make me happy before all this, I told her. I was afraid the next car rented to me would have no brakes and a dead body in the trunk, so I went down the aisle and rented from Hertz. You've lost my business permanently Avis, and also my company's business and that of our affiliates. Wake up and develop better policies and get a better staff in Tuscon. Im shocked. After 3.5 hours of being transferred to call centers around the world, Im still left trying to get this resolved. Stop pay on my card and all. Kevin at Avis was filling in for Budget since they were closed. I was an hour early which usually means your 24 hours starts an hr earlier. He confirmed that. But the bill was something entirely different. 48.75 for one hour, instead of my reserved rate they jacked it up, they added $20 for a late fee even though I was early blah blah blah. In stead of two days at $144 its $208 and I cant get Kevin on the phone. He said its never a problem and just bring it in within 24 hours. Horrible customer service!!! Only one worker with long lines. We called and asked specific information from this location, only to show up in person to be turned away. After 2 hours dealing with customer service after being turned away, we went back after changing all the reservation into a way the "Avis customer service" advised us would be correct and "have no problems" again the front dest customer service was literally no help, made everything difficult and literally tried to double charge us for collision coverage. He kept trying to ask if I wanted to add it for $11 a day. I pulled up my phone to show that I had paid online for the coverage already. Then he wanted to see if I wanted to add it again. AFTER ALREADY BEING COVERED AND PAID FOR! This was a complete nightmare from beginning to end. I arrived at the counter to find that my reservation had been mysteriously cancelled. The agent was very helpful in finding me a replacement. BUT, he failed to ask me about when I planned to return it, AND failed to tell me that I was being charged for services I didn't need or want (i.e. a daily charge for Syrius radio, etc.). When I returned the car, it was 2 hours past when the AGENT ASSUMED I would return it. This allowed Avis to (according to the fine print of the rental agreement) INCREASE ALL OF THE CHARGES, from the original agreement. I ended up paying nearly DOUBLE the original quote. I accept responsibility, as I signed the agreement - but I was upset that the reservation had been cancelled, and was in a hurry to get the replacement. Shame on me for not paying closer attention. But shame on them for taking advantage of a traveler in distress. read more

I wish I could give the AVIS customer service rep I had a lower score than 1 star. I rented my car through Priceline and all went smooth at that time. I flew into Kona Hawai'i and took the shuttle to Avis rental where I met Amed. I had a reservation to pick up my vehicle after 3 pm. I arrived at 3:30 and was happy to see only 2 people in line. One preferred and two regular standing in line. I took my place in line and waited patiently. After aprox 22 minutes and multiple people being helped before me and watching the rude way they were being treated I got in the preferred line and waited. When they called me forward and asked if I was a "preferred customer" I pointed to the gentleman in the other line that had been waiting in front of me and said "I prefer this person go before me as he has been waiting longer". Shortly after I was then called to the desk and helped by Amed at the Kona rental office. I gave him my reservation number and he eventually found it. He then asked if I would like to purchase insurance and I stated I already had at the time of my reservation. He then explained that the insurance was through priceline and attempted to sway me to purchase further insurance, "yeah right". after a lot of hassle and prying info out of him he finally handed me keys. While I was being helped he and the other service rep were giving another customer a hard time and indicated that they should make him wait as long as possible because of his attitude. He had a 4:00 pick up, it was 5 minutes to 4 and they wanted him to step to the side until 4 pm to start his paperwork. Maybe it was just me, the day or these two people at the counter are just the rudest people in Hawai'i. Whatever the case may be please avoid in any way the AVIS rental office in Kona while these two are employed. BTW we did not have another bad experience with anyone the entire time we were in Hawai'i, wonderful people everywhere we went. read more

Reserved and paid for a car beforehand, only to be told that there would be an additional milage charge when we picked it up. When we complained that there had been no mention of this charge beforehand, and this was outside the contract previously agreed upon, the staff at the counter was both rude and unhelpful. This is despite our preferred status. The female manager who arrived to help was the epitome of a customer service nightmare. There is a reason Avis only has one star. Avis has provided me with one of the absolute worst rental experiences of my entire life. For starters the car was filthy and smelled horribly like cigarettes. They record all phone calls and still refuse to honor the information that was given by an employee named Omar. I also received an email from a man named John who stated that I was billed incorrectly. I then received an email from someone named Ally which stated that I was billed correctly and they would not be making adjustments. Nobody there is on the same page and customer service is outsourced so not only are they hard to understand but they are not knowledgeable or helpful. I called RESERVATIONS to get information about modifying a RESERVATION and the answer I got from at least two employees was I don't know. The sole purpose of reservations is to give you information about reservations and they can't even do that. I prepaid for a $107 rental and was charged over $600. Avis refuses to even acknowledge the rate information given their by their employees. There is a woman named Rosa who works at this airport location and she provides the opposite of customer service. I have never encountered more disrespectful and a knowledgeable employees. Needless to say I have disputed charges with my credit card company but the fact that Avis won't even own up to messing up and that their employees don't know what they're talkin about and are giving false information. I normally rent with Enterprise and thought I was saving $10 by using Avis... had I known this would have been the outcome and I would be out an additional $500 I would have gladly spend that extra $10. Bottom-line, if you value your time and money do not do business with Avis. Take your hard-earned money someplace else that actually values their customers. read more

I was in town visiting my husband, who was going through training at DM. I have rented many cars in the last few years, always from Hertz. This time I shopped around for a better deal, and Avis had it. I rented a convertible for a day so I could go explore on my own. When I made my reservation online, I was happy to find a coupon code for a free upgrade to a convertible. I figured I'd get a V-6 Mustang, which would have been fine (though I always prefer a V-8 - who doesn't?). When I got to the counter, a very, very sweet lady named Laura assisted me. When she found out that my husband, my son and I are all currently serving in the military, she said "Let me do something special for you." She upgraded my rental to a 2015 Camaro SS Convertible. We chatted for almost half an hour, and she was so kind. She thanked me for our service, and I thanked her profusely for her kindness. I will NEVER forget the way I was treated, and I am now an Avis customer FOR LIFE. Thank you, Laura, and Avis! read more

They charged us $200 for them lying to us over the phone and fraudulently recording our pick-up time. Full story: My father reserved an SUV from here for a trip down to Mexico. Over the phone they said they could give us the proper paperwork to take the SUV over the Mexican border. However, once we flew into Tucson they said otherwise. Unsure what to do at the time we picked up the SUV anyway. 2 hours later we decided on another plan and went back to return the SUV. They kindly removed the charges for the whole trip, instead they charged us for one day, $200. The reason for the day charge was because the SUV was driven off the lot and the SUV was taken out 6 hours before we returned the SUV. 6 hours ago was 2 hours before our airplane even landed, meaning they obviously put down the wrong takeout time. My father asked if there was anything they could do since he's always rented from Avis for the last 15 years. The attendant went to find the manager and came back saying he had to charge us. Needless to say, this Avis location changed my father's entire view of Avis. read more

I was lied too! First thing is the car that I rented was upgraded and paid more for the upgrade. I came in to pick up my car around 7:45am the gentleman expressed to me that can bring the car back at 8am. Than when I was in Sedona heading to my someone important in my life surprise bday party the car wouldn't start. I was stuck in Sedona waiting and hour and a half for someone to come out. I asked the women from roadside assistance prior to the if I would be charged for the car not starting due to mechanical issues and she said I wouldn't be. the car had auto start the car wouldn't start it had a back up key but only to open the door. In a Mazda it didn't have a ignition key whole(Mind you I have AAA!)The gentleman who came out all the way from flagstaff (who was contracted) was a amazing! It took him 5 minutes to get the car up and running. I returned my rental on Monday at 8:22am or so before the agreement said that I was given a 29 min grace window! I was charged for a whole day which I understand the system auto charged it! I went in to explain the situation and wanted talk to the manager on duty. The front desk lady rosa waited on me and I explained the situation of what happened to the car and wanting a credit for the extra day and compensation for the car not auto starting! She goes and explained to me the policy which I totally understand setting the proper expectations. However, with this situation I read the terms and conditions on returning the car and mechanical issues. She goes and gets the manager as requested than a few minutes later she returns without the manager and says he is going to credit the extra day but than goes on saying again the terms and conditions and what she tells her customers. I became frustrated with her do to the fact I felt there was no reason to express the same thing over again. I asked to have the manager come out which he did Ralph Leslie I explained my frustrations to him about the representative and thanked him for crediting the extra day. I than asked him about compensation with the issue with the car. He said he couldn't do anything about that until he got the report back from the Avis roadside and with it being a holiday he wouldn't get back to me til Wednesday. Today is Thursday and when I am told a time when I am supposed to have a resolution and I don't I'm escalating the situation until it gets resolved. On top of that I just got an email from the Avis roadside saying they are taking 60.00 out of my credit card. Which I was told I wouldn't and it's something that I didn't agree too! I will be putting this complaint on all my social media, TripAdvisor, yelp, and anywhere else not to do business with Avis/Budget at the airport in Tucson!!! read more
