Dollar Car Rental was an expected positive exchange. Perhaps I was lucky given the reviews that have been posted. I rented a clean Dodge Durango with a sunroof. It was pretty nice. The rental car place is located on the complete opposite side of baggage claim. I received an unexpected car upgrade, and the check-in/check-out was a breeze. Josh's warm, responsive and thorough service made the rental process pleasant. There was no wait time, although I was the second customer in line. I observed the other two customers receiving the same positive service as I was eavesdropping on their conversations. For my experience this was truly a "dollar" well spent! #juken123 # dollarcarrentaltucson # dodgedurango read more

I received a standard Corolla rather than a hybrid vehicle which I had reserved. Desk staff said the standard vehicle is "equal." Given today's gas prices, I explained it is not equal. Another gentleman stated they don't have hybrids, and I asked why that option is available on the website? Gentleman then explained how people don't know how to drive hybrids and thus they don't have any due to maintenance headaches. None of this addressed the bait-in-switch. I explained renting approx 20 days per year in Tucson but staff remained uninterested. read more

Why bother making a reservation? No cars were available. Overbooking, a bad business practice if you want returning customers.

Absolutely shameless and obnoxious upsell of their insurance using lame scare tactics. When the toothless bearded troll finally gave up trying to upsell, he finally told me "Good luck, you'll need it!". What a sore loser and the whole disgusting customer experience. Don't give them a chance to sell you anything with manipulative gaslighting, just say NO! read more

A scam! I rented for a week long trip- rented the "managers" special which indicated it could be electric, hybrid, etc. when I arrived they rented me a super large Dodge Ram- I asked for a smaller car and they told me it would cost me more. I asked and asked and even asked the manager and they wouldn't change it without up-charging me. It was such a simple accommodation to make for the customer and they refused. read more

Got shafted by Dollar Horrible customer service and very unprofessional manager. They made up a story that my credit card did not match my driver's license so they would not honor my reservation through Expedia. Most likely because they could rent the vehicle to someone else at a much higher rate. I walked down to Avis and had no trouble at all getting a car rental from them. Needless to say, we will not go back for any future rentals. read more

The absolute worse in customer service. The bottom of the bunch is Jerry. I had been traveling 10 hours and he kept asking me for my credit card. I asked him to wait while I look up my confirmation number because I already paid. He told me that I was argumentative and to step away from the desk. I told him I wasn't arguing with him. I was just asking for him to be while I looked up my reservation. He told me he refused to wait on me. So I went back in line and waited for another agent. Joseph was a little better, but they just don't take no for an answer in wanting extra insurance. Prepaid gas., road assistance. Meeting the at the dollar car rental gave me the worst impression of Tucson. I only hope their business can be saved by hiring new employees and improving their customer service training. read more

Dollar Car Rental at Tucson airport was frustrating. They tried hard to upsell and push unneeded insurance. They refused to come check the car with me for scratches. The car stunk of smoke. Even though I'm a Dollar Express member (which means spouses can be added for free), at first they refused to add my husband until I insisted. When I dropped the car off at 4 am after a full month, they weren't there, so I couldn't ensure they weren't cheating me. I found out later they had charged an extra $12 for supposedly not leaving the car completely full of gas--but we had filled it completely at the closest gas station, topped it off, and left the car in the designated spot. (It's the desert with hot days and cold nights, so when they started the car in the morning, the temperature had probably dropped enough so that they could squeeze a few more drops of gas into the tank, and then they charged us a ridiculous fee for supposedly not filling the tank entirely.) The entire experience was frustrating--even though the car was fine to drive. read more

I was unable to complete my prepaid rental due to their deposit requirements. This is fine; they are entitled to have policies regarding deposits and guarantees, and their desk clerk was very pleasant even though I did not leave with a rental car. However, it is now almost two weeks later and I have not received back my prepaid deposit. The desk clerk was unable to do so herself (already a red flag) and gave me a flyer for their customer service. I called that same day (twice, because I was abruptly disconnected the first time I spoke to an agent and requested a refund, another red flag) and was finally told I could expect my refund in 7-10 days. This time frame is already outrageous in this time of instantaneous electronic funds transfers. However, I then received an email FOUR DAYS LATER advising me that my refund had not been processed, even though I was denied rental and had never taken possession of a vehicle, and that I should wait another 48 hours for a result because I was still in the "redemption period," whatever that is. When I had not been notified of my refund 48 hours later, I sent an angry email detailing the situation and requesting my refund. One day after that, I received an email reply stating that my refund had finally been processed, and I should expect it within... 7-10 days. I should not have to wait two weeks (or more - I have still not received the funds) for a refund of a deposit I paid for a car I was not allowed to rent, despite jumping through a number of ridiculous hoops just to request it. This is an unacceptable way to handle deposit refunds. I will never rent from Dollar again. I would resent being forced to leave one star instead of zero stars, except their clerk at the desk was very professional. That one star goes to her. read more

Horrible place to rent from.. I rented a car feb 12-18 2022 through Alaska Airlines, after our flight we stood in line for about 45 min, 1 person working... after all was said and done I had a remaining balance of $85, the have a $200 hold on your CC until you bring back the rental, all was well, have to fill up rental 10 mile radius of the return site per policy, ok we did.. Left on a Saturday afternoon, have the attendant at the return our fuel receipt, came back full, 3 days later i was charged $201... They will say that they will email you a copy of your receipt, but they don't, you have to go on their website to get it, after learning this, they charged my CC $99.04 for fuel... Now I have to jump through hoops trying to get this cleared up, don't waste your time.. I usually go through enterprise, never had an issue with them read more

Tucson Dollar Car Rental is staffed by courteous, helpful, professional people. Customer Service was A+

Booked through Delta. Dollar added additional fees not listed at time of booking, and blamed "third party sites." Representative was rude when I asked them to honor the pricing at time of booking. Car was dirty, and not what we reserved. Said I needed to bring a gas receipt when I filled up for amount of gas currently in vehicle- I guess they want to benefit from the gas already in the tank when I refill on return date? My first Dollar experience and really wish I'd gone elsewhere. At that location they share resources/fleet with Hertz, so I'm surmising treatment would be similar? Very disappointing.... read more

The ease of check in to retrieve our vehicle was fast and friendly. Ideally not the vehicle we wanted (2500 Bighorn Ram) but we accepted it. The vehicle was dusty inside and not the cleanest. An agent did not escort us to the vehicle to do an inspection and it was too dark in the parking garage to see any imperfections. Upon leaving the garage, the sun light showed a small ding in the windshield with some minor cracking. Our hotel was 9 miles away as soon as we parked we took pictures the best we could of the entire vehicle. When we returned the vehicle the agent immediately jumped on the tire of the truck and inspected the ding in the windshield as if he knew if was there. He pointed it out and we told him it was there when we picked up the truck. He said, "It wasn't unless you have a picture". We then said we have pictures and he proceeded to inspect the ding and said, "Oh, it looks like it has been filled before, never mind I don't need to see the picture." We left without further issue until receiving an email the next day claiming damage to the windshield and they already retained the $200 deposit. We are currently waiting on a response from the pictures we sent. To me this was very crooked and taking advantage of 2 women that perhaps they wouldn't think knew any better. In my opinion they knew this damage was there and was waiting on just the right person to try to trick into having to pay for the repair. Never again Hertz/Dollar. Really sad considering our stay in Tucson was amazing and friendly everywhere! read more

I travel for business and pleasure a few times a month. This rental car experience was the absolute worst. First the person (Joe) who helped us at the counter was the most unprofessional person. I called to notify them that we were running late due to a delay and I was reassured it would not be a problem and there would be a car available for me. That was not the case! Upon finally getting a car it was dirty, damaged and had a smell. I reserved the car 2 months in advance. For them to not have available cars is just not good business practice. Even if the car would have been up to standards dealing with Joe was a complete disaster. He is rude, disrespectful and doesn't know how to deal with customers. Very disappointed in the service and the car for the amount of money we spend on rental cars. read more

They don't wait for the last planes to arrive, they just take off at quitting time. Pretty disconcerting way to end a long delayed flight. The abandoned kiosk has a little sign indicating that reservations will be handled by some company to the right and I ended up wasting 20 minutes waiting in the Avis line when I should have been in the Hertz line. Yeah it was mostly my fault, but I just spent hours bent up in American Airlines coach. I overheard the Hertz desk person mention to his manager that the Dollar person didn't even tell him there were any reservations left. The only two rental counters manned after midnight were Avis (one overworked woman) and Hertz had both a front desk worker and a manager on duty. Even though they are the same company I think next time I will spend a few extra dollars to go with Hertz. read more

Absolutely the worst rental car experience I've ever had. After an hour wait in line to get the vehicle, I got to the car it had a low tire light on. I was not going to go back inside and wait another hour in a line to let them know. I put air in the tire myself. The following day, on my birthday, on the way to my birthday dinner I noticed the tire was totally flat in the front and a very large nail in the tire that was obviously there when I picked up the vehicle. From the restaurant I contacted roadside assistance they came out, told me to go ahead and go in the restaurant he would take care of it so I didn't miss the dinner. After dinner I drove back to the Airbnb where I was staying. In the morning, I was leaving to go to a family member's birthday who is turning 4 years old, and the tire was completely flat, the roadside service had changed the wrong tire! Again, I held for over 2 hours trying to reach someone at roadside assistance the first person disconnected me. They are now 2 hours out before sending someone. I leave tomorrow and this rental car company has absolutely ruined this trip. Additionally, I have to pay for roadside assistance $78 each time they come. I am disgusted I am disappointed and very sad that I missed this birthday party. Do not ever expect that you will actually reach someone at the rental car company. You will never speak to anyone it's not possible. Avoid this company at all costs. Horrible horrible company. read more

The lady I had to work with did not want to have to explain anything. Dark hair, pulled back, if you are going to get her try to wait for someone else! Even my 15 year old daughter mentioned her lack of customer service when we walked away. I only wanted to explain why I would have to pay for an extra hour to drop the car off at 5:30, (I accidently put 5). I was already paying for a full hour, even though I was dropping off at 5. Technically, the full hour would have been 5:30. So it didn't make sense. I signed up for their customer loyalty program, which states that they give you the best car in your class. This might be true unless the person checking you in doesn't like you. The car I got was RIDICULOUS, dented front bumper, spray paint spot on front, sides were riddles with scratches all up and down. I knew I should have gone in and exchanged it but I was in town to see my son graduate from Ft. Huachuca and I wanted to get there. So unfortunately, I did not go back in like I should have. Before I left with the car I did go to the outside check in and asked about the dent, the guy said because it had a black sticker on it that meant they knew about it. I tried reaching out through facebook but the most they could do was give me a free day should I ever rent from them again. Overall, terrible experience. Only plus, was inside of car was clean. Otherwise, customer service was horribly lacking, and the outside of the car was a joke. Couldn't actually believe they rent cars that way. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! Me and my family were trying to go to Disneyland over fall break, PRE PAYED everything, brought my family to pick the car up, waked inside and was almost IMMEDIATELY refused a car. The employee made me feel like I was scamming him, and had a huge grin across his face when telling us no. We asked him for more options, or help of any kind, and he said absolutely nothing. I don't know how this business is still alive, but I pray it isn't in the future. Take my advice and DONT go here. WORST car rental EVER. I wish I could give this 0 stars but I can't, do NOT go here. Worst experience of my life so far with a rental company. The front desk man with the shitty pony tail was beyond rude and unhelpful. As a military family coming in after 13 hours on a plane pcsing from Europe to Arizona, when we landed all we wanted was to get a our rental (from a competing rental company.) and come to find out we couldn't use a debit card without a return flight number. Mind you we are moving to Arizona, we didn't have a house yet and no American phone numbers. We were exhausted and disappointed. We called an Uber and put in a call to USAA, our bank that caters to military. This morning my husband got up, jet lagged and walked back to the car rentals. The employees that helped us were very friendly. When we returned the car, it was easy and no hassle. Heck, I even received a compliment. Talk about going above and beyond! Dollar, unlike every other car rental company, does NOT let you add your spouse as a driver for free. They charged $13.50 per day.
