The whole process was so smooth. Checked it at the airport upon landing and we were driving out in about 10 minutes. I noticed our car was a bit on the smaller size and even though it was kind of what we ordered, the next day we were able to trade it in for a different model with a little more room. From the time we drove up and drove back out was less than 10 minutes! The very next day our tire had a nail in it and we were able to drive it back and in less than 10 minutes again, we were on the road with an upgraded vehicle. Each agent was very nice and the return process was super easy. The rental car desk is very close to the arrivals/departures at the airport.

I'm a Gold Elite member and every other airport I fly into, I simply go to the vehicle in the space indicated in the email I receive. I did the same on this trip into Tucson. I got to the car but there were no keys, so I went all the way back to the desk, stood in line and finally got my keys. Defeats the purpose of being a Gold Member. I then took my luggage out to the garage and got to the vehicle and did my customary walk-around. The window had a chip (that's a nightmare when Hertz tries to bill you for it - ask me how I know) and damage to the passenger door that I just didn't want to pay to drive (picture attached) because it looked like a second tier rental. I went back to the desk with my luggage and was given another vehicle. By this time I was running late and needed to get going. The vehicle was filthy inside and out. I've attached pictures of the outside. There were also large scratches down the passenger side. If the vehicles weren't inside a parking garage there may be an explanation but - nope. Once I started driving I saw that something had been splashed all over the dashboard and steering wheel. Totally unacceptable. I had to have the car washed the next day. Try as I might, I could never get a human being to talk to. Everything is done online or via voice messaging . Someone finally texted me and 'annotated' the damage to the passenger side and said I'd have to contact roadside assistance if I wanted a new car - which entailed waiting around for hours - I ultimately opted to just wash it an press on. I competed the survey they sent and received a 'canned' email 'we're sorry we didn't meet your expectations . . . '. I sent an email back saying that the canned email was actually more offensive than no response - they never responded. Based on this experience, I will be cancelling my account after my trip next week and will not use Hertz in the future. Their prices are always a bit high, but in the past it's been because of vehicle quality and customer care. When I asked the attendant at the airport why the damage to the first vehicle wasn't fixed, he said 'Hertz doesn't fix them - they just put them back in service'. I guess that says it all!

They tried to talk me into an "upgrade' which was a HUGE CAR that I couldn't drive so I declined and said I'd wait. They had nothing. After 30 minutes they tried to put me in a car that I couldn't even touch the pedals but my knees were against the dashboard and the steering wheel touched my legs. I pulled out and then parked. I could NOT drive it safely. They didn't care. The condescending child working there had the cajones to tell me that I need to learn how to adapt. Then he told me that they don't honor reservations and it's always first come first serve. They charged me over $500 Then I went inside and the man behind the counter was no better. Basically "sorry bro" attitude leaving me stranded at the airport. Luckily I got someone to come get me 45 minutes later but the fact that they didn't care and were so rude to me is unacceptable. I have three other reservations with Enterprise but am thinking of canceling if this is how they treat folks.

First off, they are not onsite at the Tucson airport, as most of the other rental companies are. You go outside, pick up a phone, and tell them to come get you in the shuttle. Not all that big a deal except you wait outside in ungodly heat and that's not too much fun. It took them between five and ten minutes to arrive. My driver was an older guy who was pleasant and helpful. The actual rental site is small and poorly staffed. I'm surprised to read other reviews stating that folks weren't pressured to take the insurance as my guy literally hounded and shamed me for not taking their insurance. His attitude definitely bordered on rude and contemptuous. When I explained that we carried our own insurance (even showing him proof) he still kept pestering me that I needed to use their insurance...for another 150 dollars a day. He then started going on about that fact that no matter how good I thought my coverage was, if they deemed the car in need of any kind of work during my rental time I would have to pay five million dollars (or some such high, made-up figure) a day for every day the car was kept out of service. And they could keep the car out of service as long as they wanted. I swear, by the time this guy finished his rant, I really believe he hoped I DID have some awful wreck or accident, just so he could prove to me how stupid I was. This was not pleasant. I get that you're supposed to attempt to up-sell the extras but I've never had an employee badger me so long about added insurance on a rental. My car was a teeny tiny subcompact, though my husband swears he asked for a mid-size. I didn't much care as it was big enough for my needs, but we rent cars often and usually rental places are more likely to upgrade rather than downgrade. The shuttle driver who drove me back to the airport at the conclusion of my stay was also pleasant. It was nice to be dropped off right in front of the American Airlines ticketing area. In that sense, being offsite was a bit of an advantage as you walk quite a ways from the main airport services to the rental car area. (Just trying to be fair in my assessment!) I am so put out about the rudeness of the guy who put me in my car, that I'm not sure I'll return to Thrifty.
