My son and I wanted and needed to rent a car for our mini trip that was coming up from the 6th of this month until the 8th. We didn't want to risk a 2 hour drive to Santa Barbara and take his car, being a 2015 Toyota Prius and mine even older than his. We decided to stop by at this Avis rent a car and see what were our options like?? As we walked in, 2 employees approached us and wanted to know how they can be some sort of an asset and help to us. I believe one's name was Tony and can't remember the other guy's name. They were both polite & trying their best to help us. We were there on the 2nd of April around 4pm. They showed us a few cars that didn't meet our expectations since 2 of them were Mazda CX50 intermediate SUV, and for 3 days $193.64 not counting the hidden fees such as tax, insurance and the rest. The other car that they showed us was a Hyundai Venue $160.00. Both cars were EXPENSIVE for our budget. The place from outside was not clean, was dusty and needed a good sweep & a wash with a hose. Inside on the other hand was pretty much clean. It's a very small lot that can fit up to 10 cars. Not a lot of cars to choose from except SUV's! So we took the chance/risk and stayed with my son's car and drove all the way to Santa Barbara and back. read more

My typical AVIS experience is just seamless. Quality vehicle, reliable and effortless. The last service at Asheville airport was awkward at the counter in that it has been relocated temporarily to a trailer outside the airport. The customer rep was not very kind or pleasant and, overall, it took 40 minutes for the transaction to occur. This week, my experience at your Studio City outlet was polar opposite. Tony, your customer rep, could not have been kinder or more helpful. He is an ASSET to the Avis business and I will continue to come back to this particular location because of him. The business hours posted on Yelp are wrong. When I came to return my rental car I was told, very unapologetically, that the location closed at 5. When I asked about who is responsible for updating the business hours, I was told "not me." So that's that, I guess. I had to pay for an extra day due to this misinformation. When I got a chance to look at the sign, it's in military time. In a country that primarily uses regular time. I think this is purposely misleading and if/when "late" returns results in customers paying extra, the business loves it, of course. read more

Honestly he is the only reason I continue to use Avis / Budget, as there are other rental agencies on Ventura Blvd. That said, Sixt is over-priced & has the same challenges of a small lot & small choice of vehicles. They didn't have the vehicle I pre-paid for so I had to pay for the upgraded SUV I got. At Avis I've never NOT gotten a car I reserved & the one time I didn't get the class I reserved, Tony Handled it & got me an upgrade & small discount. They've also said "we don't have a car for you and don't know what to tell you"! If you care about covid and insist on renting here plan on a full wash on your own dollar. Every car I've rented is disgustingly filthy (during covid and any other time). When you walk into this location look at the front window, it hasn't been washed in years, dead bugs, webs and this is at the height of covid. You never cleaned your lobby once!!!!!!!! It's more than obvious how filthy the lobby of this location is. The owner is rude and so are the employees. I'll cut the employee some slack because he probably needs the job and and it's obvious he has a terrible leader and he makes this employee be his front man. When you walk in it's never a good encounter. Do not be fooled assuming you're at Budget/Avis and you'll get good treatment. NO. I live a few blocks away and every encounter here has been terrible. I've sat for hours waiting for my reserved prepaid cars and I think when they seen I wasn't leaving the owner has pulled up from home in dirty cars and handed me the keys with an attitude. Wow. I picked up my car rental at Burbank Airport and the only vehicle they had was a Dodge Charger. Being height-challenged in a muscle car was not a good match. The Avis clerks said I could exchange it in the morning at any Avis. I called around to various Avis car agencies, but no one had a car I could swap out. Finally, I called Tony Moll at Avis in Studio City. He said he might be able to help and to call back. Instead, I went down to his location and waited. Within less than an hour he had a Camry for me. The cars here are always filthy & my last rental was unsafe as well. After driving the rental I noticed the tires seemed low - the recommended PSI was 51 and three tires were at 36 PSI and one at 24 PSI so I had to stop and get air put in the tires. The oil light came on soon afterwards and the knob for the rear view mirrors was broke. Upon returning the car, the desk agent admitted that they don't have a dedicated cleaning crew and they are responsible for cleaning the car. The same must be true for maintenance staff! We've rented two cars here in the past month and they both smelled like smoke and had dirty interiors - trash on the floor & side compartments, food smears on the doors, grubby windows with handprints, etc. Does anyone check these cars before renting?! It's apparent that no one cares. And what's with the weird 70's office that doubles as a talent agency and the bathroom that is always out of order? I have to say that Tony at least from my first rental experience was great! He has a no nonsense approach that some may feel like being rude. But I got him to smile at a joke so he's okay with me. Other than that it was easy made my reservation he took my DL debit card. Brought he keys out and gave me my receipt. Car was great too! But starting yesterday it became unsafe... the shield placed at the counter for COVID is gone. Tony personally follows mask and other protocols but that is it. I've been renting here for over a year, and I've seen him handle the toughest customer with courtesy and professionalism. He seems to run the place, jockeying cars, customers and keys at once. I wish I could write a good review but I cannot really. My company had rented a car here for a business trip. On pick-up day, it was OK, the staff was friendly. However, the car they gave me was not clean. There was some garbage from the former customer left that they had not even bothered to remove. I find this really bad that you do not have even take the time to clean a car, even superficially after one customer. That was not the major issue though. I needed to be dropped back at my house after bringing back the car. I asked AVIS since they were advertising pick up and drop off services. The guy starts by telling me that they do not go beyond a four mile trip, which I find already really useless but luckily for me, I was living less than four miles from the place. However, the guy who drove me back quickly showed signs of exasperation because it 8.30am and traffic was heavy. If you provide pick up and drop off services, you have to do so, any time of the day. He tried to escape the traffic which was impossible given the fact that there was only ONE way to get to my place. So he went for other directions and put us even more into traffic.... After a while, the atmsophere got so tense in the car and he was so disrespectful that I had to leave the car and walk back the rest of the way with heavy bags. While this is a convenient location in Studio City, my wife and I will never again utilize their services and will let everyone we know understand our frustration with the people who work at this location. Their customer service skills are tremendously lacking and one employee in particular, Richard, is angry, condescending, argumentative, rude and unprofessional. My review is not based on an isolated incident. My wife and I have had horrible service from Richard and were spoken to in a manner only rivaled by that of a wicked step parent scolding a child for something completely innocuous. As two highly intelligent people with years of professional customer service experience under our belts we expect people who work in this field to be friendly, amenable and willing to help yet we received the complete antithesis from Richard. Furthermore, my company was considering moving our Fleet vehicle contracts from Enterprise to Avis so we did some "mystery shopping" of this and a couple of other Avis location. Based on the feedback our team received from the airport and Studio City locations, we will not be bringing our Fleet service needs to Avis and will retain our contracts with Enterprise. And, we will be letting Avis' corporate Fleet Manager know exactly why we are not moving our contracts and monies over to Avis from Enterprise! The bottom line here is this... if you are in a pinch and need a rental vehicle in or around Studio City, I would HIGHLY recommend going elsewhere for this service. Prices are certainly competitive at other rental locations and, from what we have experienced, you get better customer service, a friendlier staff and people who are willing to help while not treating you like a turd! After all, these days when prices are easily available on the internet and you can competitively shop any of these companies you end up making your decision on customer service, convenience and selection. I can honestly say (and with no other bias) that this Avis location doesn't differentiate on any of the aforementioned criteria. Caveat Emptor! UPDATE: Since writing this review I have spoken with two of my neighbors about my experience here and they BOTH said the same thing about the terrible customer service here and specifically mentioned a guy who resembles Richard. My Husband & I were going on a road trip, & at the last minute we thought it would be a good idea to rent an SUV. After checking prices on Kayak we decided to go with Avis because of their comparable rates & easy location on Ventura Blvd. I called the day before our trip & spoke with Barry, he was patient & helpful with my questions & said they'd have an SUV available when we went to pick up the car the next day. We decided to go with a smaller SUV, so I made my reservation online. The next day we were helped by a young man named Nasir. He was so easy going, he made the whole rental process quick & stress free. The cherry on top was the free upgrade we got for a Ford Explorer. I was told I would receive a reduced rate since the car was TWO classes lower than my reservation. He tried to discount me $1. The agent was rude and unhelpful. Rented a Kia Soul here. They did not do a walk through with me on the car, I thought maybe it was because it was raining and all. Shorty after I left I looked to around the rear view window area a crack in the windshield about five inches down and five across to the rear view mirror connector. I called the location and they didn't answer so Avis roadside found me another car to swap it out. I feel though that this location knew it had a crack in windshield and rented it to me anyway!!! I do buy the insurance but if I hadn't or some other unexpected person rented the car and would have been hit with the charges. Looking back, I should have been suspicious when the guy at counter had me sign what looked like a previous damage form with a picture of car on it but it was blank and he was like just sign that gas tank is full even though I had yet gotten to the car to confirm it was indeed full. Again, this is why you get the insurance folks so unscrupulous locations don't try to have you pay for previous damage. read more

Top notch, which is pretty rare for car rental places. I've dealt with even other Avis locations where they are rude to their customers. Not Tony. These guys are great. I used them twice recently and they took care of me, found me the best deal for my needs, etc. Richard is the guy. Also, Nasir(?) was very helpful. Also, having called around to different car rental agencies in the area, I learned some things. For instance, although Hertz at Burbank Airport is a great, no-hassle agency, the Hertz office in Sherman Oaks gets bad reviews on Yelp and when I've called them I get the impression they're under-staffed and too busy. And I wouldn't bother with Enterprise. Gave up on them a long time ago. read more

Had a bad experience here, and, similar to the other reviews, the customer service was horrible. Couldn't pick up car before their closing time 2pm due to flight delay. Called about 145, and they told me to come in the next morning to pick up the car. Got there to discover they had already rented the car out (most likely the day before) Didn't get the guys name, but he basically told me there was nothing he could do. Tried to called Burbank, no one answered after 5 attempts. I would highly discourage using this location. Rent something at the LAX or Burbank, which have comparable rates. read more

NEVER RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. I walked all the way over to this location from my home just to find out the car I reserved was not actually available. They had overbooked another guy as well when I made it in and he was having the same issue. Avis would not bring up a car from their Hollywood location for either of us, nor would they give me a ride back home. The guy working the desk, Alex, straight up said it is Avis' policy to overbook their cars. I was not even given a courtesy call that my reserved car was given to someone else. When I told Alex I was a vocal upset customer and I'd be complaining to corporate his response was "ya - we get a lot of vocal angry customers." Really?! So your companies response is to keep doing the same shitty thing?? Thanks for making me miss my appointment and making me walk 3 miles home in the heat. Avis you are THE WORST. read more

To say this service was abominable is an understatement. The employee working at this location was rude, condescending, and embarrassingly uninterested in being helpful. Avis should be ashamed that he is a representative of their brand and company and should take a serious look at who they hire before allowing their employees to interact with paying customers on their behalf. I rented a car from this location and was very disappointed with the service. I arrived at noon, when I had reserved my car for, and was told there were no cars available. They told me "someone should be returning one by one pm. Just wait". I was confused how a rental car company did not have any cars... About 10 minutes before 1pm I was told "we close at one so hopefully they'll be here soon." No explanation or clarification what would happen if said car did not show up. Once the car did come there was no apology or compensation for the inconvenience. While I was waiting another group came in to pick up a car. They had also reserved a car online and while they were checking out the man behind the counter was trying to charge them a different price and only fixed it once the customer noticed that he was being up charged. I also was confused why they had a car available for this customer and I was still waiting. I've rented several cars in the area and have never had issues like this. I will not be returning to this company and will highly recommend Hertz over Avis/Budget. read more

Horrible experience with the new owners of this place. Stay away as they will bait and switch rates on you and provide you with vehicles that have speed limitations on them, so you can listen to a warning beep every second of your drive, each time you get close to 80 MPH as well as not be able to listen to the radio at all, as its limited to 1/4 of the sound and then limited some more when the warning goes off. They don't offer any help and charge overcharge your CC without authorization. BBB report filed and CC dispute applied.
