Easy rental no problems no extra cost or fees I would rent again just not at the airport

The Good: The app was easy to use and they were flexible when I had last minute changes. I also had a very short wait to get into the car and out of the airport. The customer support line was friendly and helpful. The Bad: Bogus $450 cleaning fee. When I called the customer service number to figure out why they assessed a cleaning fee they said it was for smoking. I do not smoke. No one was smoking in or near the vehicle while I was in possession of it. When I called customer service they offered 50% off of the charge and eventually dropped it all together. This appears to be predatory behavior. If you choose to rent from this location, it is strongly recommended that you request an employee to thoroughly inspect and verify the condition of the vehicle in your presence before you leave. read more

Something about moving all of the cars out of the airport for some type of shut down happened. We arrived at 1030, arrived at Avis by 11:00 and after standing in line for 30 minutes, we were told cars wouldn't available for up to an hour after we checked in. The other rental companies have cars, so whatever happened, it seemed like an Avis problem. How about some mandatory overtime to get the cars back to the airport?!? They certainly didn't offer us a discount, so there's money available. NEVER again. read more

First problem - they didn't have the type of vehicle I reserved. I was told instead of waiting for over an hour to get the small SUV I wanted, I could take a car, a truck or a minivan. None of these is what I wanted, but I didn't want to wait an hour for the car I reserved to be ready, so we take the car. Second problem - the car is dented and dinged up all over the side, marked with little white Xs and the passenger side window button is broken. I could roll the window down, but not back up. Didn't realize this until day two of trip. Third problem - after I returned the car, and the woman checking us in said everything was fine and we were all set, I get a notice that they're going to charge me an additional $125 for 'smoking' and excessive dirt. WE DON'T SMOKE! This is completely bogus! We also didn't leave excessive dirt - unless you mean normal amounts from being out in the rainy weather. It rained - we used the car in the rainy weather - and guess what - the floor mats got a little muddy. Isn't that what they're there for?? In all my years of renting cars, I have NEVER had this normal situation be called excessive. I've also never had them LIE about us smoking! Again - WE DON'T SMOKE! Fourth problem - when we called to speak to someone about this bogus charge, we had the worst customer service ever! We spoke to two different people, neither were helpful and they were both rude. I will never again rent from this company, and I'll tell everyone about my horrible experience with this company that LIES to over charge a customer. read more

Unfortunately, Avis didn't have the car in that we were supposed to get. So we end up getting a Highlander. The car was not clean and had a heavy stench of Marijuana, which is not good for a child. We informed Avis about this and they gave us a little bit of credit. The general manager, Kyle Cooper, sent us an email letting us know to contact him if we had a problems. Unfortunately, he never got back to us, despite multiple phone calls and emails, really poor service! His partner, Andrew Egan, was supposed to remove a bogus charge they put on our bill. He said he did, but upon checking with the bank, he never followed through. Thankfully we got it removed, with no help from Avis. They also tried to put some other bogus charges on our account. We could not recommend them in good conscience to anyone else. read more

Worst experience renting a car. Unauthorized charge on my credit card three weeks after my rental. Said there was evidence of smoking in the vehicle and hit my card for $450! I tried to explain that I am a non smoker and the car wasn't vacuumed before i picked it up. No customer service number except national 800 call center, which is a maze to navigate only to be told a week later that I would have to call the Austin airport counter and speak to a manager. Go figure, no way to get to the manager at the airport unless I fly in again...phones all push you back into the national call center. Never again AVIS!! read more

I was surprised to see 5 star reviews for this location on Yelp. Typically a car rental place has 3 stars at best. I needed to add another driver onto my rental agreement so popped into this Avis location to get this done. The reviews were not mistaken, as the lady that helped us provided great customer service. Unfortunately she was not able to add the second driver for just two out of the six days that I requested, and I had to pay an additional $65 to have an additional driver for the duration of the rental (other places will do this free of charge), but this is more of a corporate thing and not due to lack of service by the rep. We were in and out within 5 minutes - she made everything very easy and convenient. read more

It gets really frustrating when companies get so big that all they care about is making money and not putting their customers first. Avis is exactly that. Customer service is lacking. Person at the front desk that helped me with car pickup could not answer my questions and then gave me attitude when I was upset about the situation. The warning is in the title - you get what you pay for. Shame on me. On September 8th of 2020 we picked up our rental car. Within minutes of being on the road the check engine light came on. We also noticed they gave us a car with an expired plate/registration tag. Shady. The replacement car had a blowout and we were stranded in a small town in Texas. There wasn't a spare tire. Meaning, there was a space in the trunk for a spare tire, but the spare was not there. This is perfectly legal by the way. The budget representative we called lied to us and said there would be no charge for towing. Yet here we are 2 months later with a $220 towing fee. That's Dishonest. We were lied to and now we're being forced to pay. Funny thing, they send out a survey email after you return the rental. I ignored it until I got the towing bill. Of course the survey link had been long expired by then. Very clever. You can't help but appreciate their corporate ruthlessness. I called budget customer service to try and figure out what was going on. The call center agent put me on hold and the line was disconnected soon after. Classic. Regardless, I won't be giving any more of my money to budget. Again, shame on me for using a service called "Budget" read more

I would give them zero stars if it were an option. We rented a car in Naples, Italy, from 1/17 to 1/21/23. Paid in full on 1/23. On 3/20 I was charged $59.56 w/o explanation. Called on 3/29 to dispute charges. Never heard back. Called again 4/4 and was AVIS was unable to explain charge. On 4/21, I received an email indicating there was a toll missed. They wouldn't produce the bill & directed me to contact issuing authority. I did so but they never produced any proof of the charge either. I paid the $59.56. On 7/20/23 I was charged $54.86 again w/o explanation. I called on 7/20--they couldn't explain the charges. Have heard nothing since. Waisted so much time in March and now again in July. My recommendation is to with any other car rental company and save yourself headaches. read more

As a presidents club member I was automatically upgraded to a nice silver GMC Terrain 5 passenger SUV. I decided to keep the SUV, because I had to drive with two other business associates with their luggage from the Austin airport to downtown Austin and back to the airport the following day. I rented a Kia for a week. Had no trouble. No BS at all here. Had a little key trouble when I was drunk but I called their emergency number and the problem was fixed. A couple helpful hints: Dont smoke in the car. I did anyway, though. You need a major credit card, not a debit card. read more

These guys are head and shoulders above virtually any other car rental small shop I have used. My wife had rented a car from a north location of Budget/Avis and realized the tire needed air as soon as she got into it. She was on a schedule so just went and aired it up (it was at 29 lbs so not bad). The next day it was down again, and she had to leave town at 10AM to take her son to Ft Worth for a crucial athletic event he was competing in. None of the other locations had cars or tried to be helpful, but these folks went way out of their way to make it so they could get up to the event in time. True customer service. read more

She was able to work with us due to our schedule and accommodate the best she can. Upon arriving to the location, this particular office space was still in renovation. I rented a car for 2 days last week to go from Austin to Dallas. Barbara the managing operator took my reservation over the phone and gave me a very good deal compared to any other rental places nearby. When I showed up to get the car Barbara was there and made the check in very smooth. She was very nice and helpful as I was not from the area she told me how to get to Dallas and to be careful not to use Toll roads so as not to incur surcharge from Avis for the billing. The car she gave me was good (Kia Sol) never drove one before. Handled very nicely on the drive. Upon return she was there and helped me get checked back in quickly and even tried to help me with getting an Uber to pick me up. If she treats all her customers as nicely as she treated me, you can't go wrong renting here. read more

I prepaid $200 for a 3-day Avis car rental from the downtown location in Austin, Tx. A snide clerk at that location informed me unapologetically that there had been a "rental failure". Her tone displayed how this was not her fault and thus of no concern to her. I asked if the airport Avis would honor my reservation and she assured me they would. The airport Avis did not honor my prepaid reservation. I booked this rental with a debit card since I do not use a credit card. However, the airport Avis requires either a credit card or a flight booked on the day of the rental return. I explained that I had booked this rental at the downtown location and that my flight would leave 3 days after I was returning the car. This fell on deaf ears and I was forced to extend my rental for 3 additional days. The price tag for this was a whopping $900 dollars with the additional fees and airport surcharges that I was supposedly not going to have to pay. I would have gone to another car rental location but doing so would have forfeited the $200 dollars I had already put down.
