We called Avina Tree Service in response to a door card that was dropped off a few weeks ago. Fidel came and gave us an estimate and encouraged us to get comps. I contacted two other local tree services (one just a few blocks from our home) and neither bothered to call us. The Avina estimate was very reasonable and we scheduled them to top and prune an arbequina olive, a pomegranate, two dwarf orange trees and a Mediterranean palm. They did an outstanding job, and they also remediated our back and side yards that had become overgrown with unwanted grass thanks to the recent rains. Now we're back to bare ground, ready to rototill and level and cover with weed barrier and begin stocking the yard with container fruit trees and other edibles. Fidel and his crew showed up at 8am and worked almost non-stop until after 5pm, cleaned everything up and left our trees and yards looking 110% better than they have in years. If you need expert fine pruning of your fruit trees and other trees, don't bother to call any other service but Avina Tree Service . . . you'll just be wasting your valuable time. Fidel and Chris are so dishonest. Fidel replaced 3 sprinkler valves and one did not work. After saying he would return to fix it, both Fidel and Chris were made aware of the problem and kept saying they would fix it. They wouldn't return texts and voicemails, and wouldn't show up when I was lucky enough to contact them and set up a time for repair. I would DEFINITELY NOT recommend this company to do ANYTHING. Needed tree trimming and removal service due to root problem and Insurance requirements - my neighbors insurance was warning them about the overgrowth of our trees that were extending over to their roof! Aviña was competitive in their quote and were able to do a great job on 2 trees (plus a lot of overgrowth) across over almost 75 feet of fence line. Be Aware!!! AVINA killed my TREE and they DENIED it. We had a very nice big Brazilian Peppertree in our front yard (see photo #1). On 2/13/24, a tree-trimming guy from AVINA Tree Service stopped me while I was driving out of my garage to go to work. He offered to trim our trees. He showed me his business card with a license number (#944972) on it. I quickly negotiated the cost of the tree trimming since there was a license number on his card, and several guys led by Fidel Avina started trimming our tree. I told him the Peppertree was too big and asked him to trim it smaller (I did not ask him to kill my tree!). While they were working, I was not watching them. I went out a couple times to see if they had finished the job, so I could pay them before I left for work, afterwards. A couple weeks later, some leaves started turning brown and drying up. I thought my tree might be in shock temporarily and would come back later. Unfortunately, the Peppertree died completely in late June when all the leaves turned brown and dried up (see photo #2). I was told by a second tree company that my tree died because it was trimmed too much and also the chainsaw they used might be unclean. The second tree company offered to remove my dead tree for $500. I declined and decided to call AVINA Tree Service to take a look at our Brazilian Peppertree they trimmed. The first response I got from Chris from AVINA was "Your tree was sick before we trimmed it." This excuse is not even logical. Fidel Avina and his team never told me my tree was sick before, during, or after the end of their tree service when I paid him $370. Our tree was very vibrant as shown on the photo before they trimmed it and I have confirmed with a nursery that a big tree will take years to die if it's sick. Chirs kept telling me that he would send someone to look at our Peppertree again, but no one showed up. It was not until 10/7/24, that Fidel Avina showed up at our house to talk to my husband. He made it sound like it was my fault that our Peppertree died by telling my husband "it was your wife asking me to cut it smaller" Yes. I asked him to cut it smaller. Isn't that the purpose of trimming? And I did not ask him to kill the tree! The Peppertree would not need trimming if it wasn't growing so fast and so large. I thought AVINA was licensed to do the tree trimming service & he claimed he has been a Tree Arborist for 20 years. To my knowledge, to become a certified Arborist in the state of California, you need to pass a written test after being in the Arboriculture field for a minimum of three years, but he blamed the paying customer for his own mistakes! To move forward, my husband offered to help with half of the cost of a new tree (so we can choose the tree we like) but Fidel asked my husband to also cover half of the tree removal on top of the cost of the tree. Let's be honest here, we went to a mainline Nursery with 9 locations in Southern California, Moon Valley Nurseries, in order to find out how much it would cost to replace our full size Brazilian Peppertree with a new one. The total cost was $19,334.35 with the Peppertree alone costing $14,999. We did not ask AVINA for $19,334.35 (see Photo 3) to replace the Brazilian Peppertree they killed. For less than $2,000, they should be able to remove the dead tree and plant a new younger tree than our now dead Peppertree. It is unbelievable to me that Fidel even asked my husband to pay for half of everything on their own mistake! I believe AVINA should 1st refund me $370.00, for the tree trimming service they failed at. After that, AVINA Tree Service can then talk about how to come up with a compromised solution with a younger tree. read more

Avina tree service did an incredible job cutting down the large tree that growing in the front of my house. Prices were competitive as we had gotten a few estimates but Christian sold us. He scheduled an appointment right away to come take a look at the work we needed to get done and he also gave us options at different price point which was amazing. The day of service, his crew came bright and early and got to work. Let me tell you, they were amazingly fast and accurate. The trees we had to were 50-60 feet and they had it cut and cleaned up in a jiffy. Although they advertise tree services they also advertise sprinkler repair. I primarily hired them to repair my sprinklers but secondarily asked them to trim a tree and clear some land. They did ok with the tree service but did a terrible job on the sprinklers. They tried to rush the project and I had to remind them to replace two broken ones they agreed to replace before they left. I specifically asked them to ensure adequate coverage and when they were done I had to replace about five sprinkler heads and one complete sprinkler because they weren't covering all of the lawn. After removing 5 trees, I found out that the sprinkler had been broken a few days later. I had asked Fidel to fix the sprinkler that had been broken after the tree removal. He had confirmed he would come on Monday to fix it, but he never showed. Even after several texts, phone calls, and a voicemail I still have not heard back from him. Chris came to take a look the same day I asked for a quote on the phone and scheduled an appointment the same week, for a very reasonable price. On the day, these guys came and removed 3 big trees and a bunch of shrubs for us. They left no mess and cleaned up after themselves. The workers working on the trees all wore protective gear such as safety helmets and harnesses. The whole thing only took them the morning from 8 to 1. I obtained 3 quotes and 2 of them were unreasonable. I needed to Mexican fan palm trees removed and stomp grinding. I was told by 2 companies they couldn't do it because the trees were to close to my retainer walls. They did their quotes over the phone. Fidel from Avina came out, looked at the scope of the work and told me "no problem". Not only did he give me a price better than the other two he did some additional work for only a $100 more (he removed a tree from the backyard, and grinded all 4 stomps) It would have cost me $155 just to rent the stomp grinder for the day and I would have had to do the labor to remove the backyard tree. His price was so fair that my neighbor asked him to remove a Mexican fan palm since he was here and he did it for the same price. I highly recommend using Fidel and his company. His son Chris was just like his dad, very service focused. They showed up with a "crew" to work and get the job done. They brought all the equipment and were very efficient. I really wish I could give Avina tree service a zero. I called because I needed 1 of my trees trimmed and for the past 3 weeks they have told me they were coming to trim my tree 4 times, and never showed for the job. My guess is they did not show up because I had only 1 tree to trim. But I was also going to get estimates for my neighbors, one has 12 palm trees, another 5 palm tree's and the other has 2 palm trees. So, not only will Avina not get my service they missed out on getting 3 more clients. I found someone to come and trim my 1 tree. I also got estimates for my neighbors and the tree company trimmed my neighbors tree's too; the same day. Avina you missed out on $1000 just because you did not show up to trim my 1 tree. I suggest you show up for jobs you commit too; you lose money and your credibility when your word is no good. read more

They were able to cut down my ugly and dying pine tree and prune my camphor tree as well as persimmon tree on the same day that I received their more than fair quote. We removed a big tree in our backyard and 2 trees that grew between 2 fences. Our neighbor removed 2 small trees and our other neighbor had them trim a palm tree. With the permission from the neighbors behind us, we were able to access the trees between the fences.
