They did light trimming on the two Mimosa trees, cut back and shaped the Red Bud tree and cut back a neighbor's sumac to the property line. Today's job had 10 different problem areas that needed to be addressed, including a tall pepper tree hedge (about 75' long and nearly 20' high) which needs to be thinned and topped annually, ALL WHILE MAINTAINING ENOUGH COVER FOR PRIVACY when done. - EQUIPMENT: He has the right tools and equipment for the job. He added a large truck with a cherry picker last year which significantly reduces the time to complete certain jobs. I've used them several times in the past 27 years for tree trimming, but we decided to remove the 5 trees due to their high maintenance and potential fire hazard. We have now used this tree business twice, both times with impeccable service. Today we had Jesse and crew out to trim some of our 70 year old coastal redwoods and completely grind out roots and stumps from prior 90 year old sycamores that a previous company did not remove. They showed up in a timely manner, got to work immediately and did a great job. They were able to remove some huge stumps that a previous tree company couldn't and cleaned up afterwards better than most companies. I usually write reviews when a business has really good or not so good service. I don't like writing negative reviews, but I always look at reviews on Yelp before hiring a company for a service. So, I believe it is important to let others know my experiences, bad or good. With that said, I can't speak about the actual work of JBS Tree Care. But I can write about my experience when trying to find a qualified professional to trim my trees. I requested quotes from 6 companies, that based on reviews, seemed reputable and professional. One didn't have the decency to reply, so they were out right away. The requests were sent on December 27th. On the 28th Pablo from JBS contacted me and said he wanted to come by in person to look at the trees and asked what city I was in. Immediately I let him know what city I was in. On the 29th I asked him if he was still interested in coming by to look at the trees. He replied that he was sorry and had gotten sidetracked. He asked if he could come by at 10am on Saturday, January 2nd. I told him that it was ok and that he could come by on Saturday, but I would not be there. (2 other businesses gave me quotes with out me being home). I also told him that we could schedule for January 4th or 5th. I had not heard back from Pablo up until this point. I sent him a message on January 2nd and asked if he was still coming to my house on Saturday to give me an estimate. He replied "Good morning. We prefer to meet the homeowners to provide a quote." "So took other appointments." I messaged him back and told him that I work on Saturday and it would have been nice for him to at least message me back and tell me that. He replied that he understood and apologized for not communicating. I told him ok and thanked him for apologizing. Pablo replied "Thank you" and that's the last I heard from him. I thought that if he was a true professional, he would have asked to schedule another time to come give me an estimate. This job is probably a $1400-1600 job and needless to say I will not be using JBS Tree Care. And I understand I could have asked him to reschedule, but at this point I felt he should have taken the initiative to reach out to me. I will say that Pablo seems polite and I liked that he has a verified license and so many 5 star reviews. He may be great for you and I believe you should do your own homework before deciding who to pick, but for me I felt this was unprofessional for a licensed business, especially with so many other choices to pick from. Update: 08-08-18 Pablo (Jesse's son) reached out to me to resolve any issues. Shortly after, Jesse came by the house to personally handle the situation. Mistakes happen and the way these guys took care of the problem brought back the respect and credibility they deserve. I really wished things turned out differently though. I would recommend these guys. They're a perfect example that proves there's hope in humanity. - - - - - I have to say, I was a bit surprised that they showed up without really having a set date with them. The only time I spoke with Jesse was to get a quote a couple of days before. When I got home, they were already finishing up. Jesse told me that he tried contacting me twice the day of. Why would you show up if you were not able to reach me and I have not given the go signal? My wife and I were still looking around for alternatives. I was then "obligated" to pay because they have already rendered their services. Rushed and not careful. Clearly, one of his crew members stood on the planter that I had set up around the tree as their way to cut some branches. Not a good idea. They should've used their ladders. Part of it collapsed and they tried to put it back together (poorly). Why not inform me about it when I got home? Definitely poor business practice. If you had messed something up, it is your responsibility to inform the owner about it and not wait until they find out. It would've been a different story if Jesse had told me right there and then. I had a great experience with Pablo from JBS. This was the first time I had needed the services of a tree trimming company and I wasn't sure what to expect. I went out and requested quotes from 10 different companies. I've never seen the price range vary so wildly for the same services. Based on all of the quotes I received, Pablo's was right in the middle; and given how overgrown and tall my trees were, it seemed fair. I had to notify my rear neighbors of the services since the trees carried onto their property. Pablo worked with my neighbors to ensure that they had proper safe access and he even covered my neighbor's pool to avoid debris from falling into it. When I arrived home from work, my trees looked fantastic. If it wasn't for that, I would not have known that Pablo's crew had even been here.
