I really wanted to like this place and had high hopes for them. However this whole place and staff has disappointed me from the start to the end. It took me almost a month because First when I took my fur baby there they wanted to charge me the highest package they had without even fully evaluating him. I wanted with it to see if it was worth it because it's his first time here and I have nothing to compare it to. I went a whole day ahead and paid because I didn't want to do the deposit over the phone. The next day Saturday the groomer whom I met before was suppose to be be there get my dog and she wasn't as promised but ok I still went along against better judgement. After having my fur baby for about 6 hours he still wasn't ready to be picked up. We left and returned and he was finally ready. When I arrived my overly friendly dog was not his normal self he looked terrified. Finding out the 'professional ex vet assistant groomer" cut a hole the size of a quarter out my baby's belly area. She then tells me she gave him peroxide and some powder to try and stop the bleeding cause she use to work in a vet office. She also as an apology tried to give me 5.00 back after I paid $65.00, $5.00 was an insult and a slap in my face. I had to take my dog to the vet and have his hole stapled close and he had to wear a cone around his neck and take antibiotics because it get infected. After communicating back and forth with the owner she seem like she was genuinely concerned and offered me a refund of my grooming and vet bill. This post is not about the money it's about the quality of service I received this particular visit. Needless to say I will never take my dog back there again. I found so many small cuts on him later it made me very sad. The groomer has the audacity to say he wouldn't keep still during his grooming ??!!! I'm like yeah if you took a chunk of my skin off And I'm bleeding and you still wanna groom me I wouldn't sit still either. 8/6/19 update, I did receive a check to reimburse me for the fees and also the grooming bill. Although this does not replace my fur baby pain and suffering, it's appreciated in trying to help correct this incident. I will say all the owner attempts were considerable. read more

I DARE YOU TO FIND A WORSE DOG TO GROOM THAN MOLLY. SKEPTICAL AT FIRST BUT MOLLY GIVES AVERY'S FIVE BIG WAGS! BACKGROUND OF THE FURRY CLIENT: Molly is a 2.5 year old abused rescue who was shot as a puppy and left in the woods. When I adopted Molly she would not let me touch her prior to adoption. Not once. I was told she had a couple of hours before she would be euthanized. I have this horrible habit of caring for these animals...and so our journey began. Over three months, of persistent "I'm not playing...don't even come near me" Molly was the master of the intimidating growl. I have never been afraid to approach a dog until meeting Molly. She is unsure of strangers, unfamiliar activities, and loud noises - on top of many of the regular fears dogs have with grooming. It took 8 months before she would let me (the human with her daily food ration) to be allowed to even touch her with grooming gloves or a brush. There are many concerns I have had with traditional grooming businesses for Molly: * they are usually loud, even early in the day because of the barking and multiple equipment running simultaneously; * the scheduling is primarily based on business needs more than your pup's requirements because everyone has special request for their baby and they all can't be accommodated; and * often your dog is put in a cage (ok, call it a crate if you must) between when they call you and how fast you can get there. This is true for absolutely every dog salon I have tried with Molly. I have paid for moderate and high end grooming trying to address this dirty dog's needs. Molly and I recently moved to Wayne where there are many places Molly can swim and play in the mud. In fact, it is a daily occurrence for Molly. Makes for a fun doggy day...also makes for one dirty/smelly dog, car, and house. It was turning into an emergency situation actually. I was so happy when I came across Avery's in Yelp. I read all of the reviews and called immediately to schedule an appointment. I was able to get on the schedule within two weeks. The next thing you know, an Avery's van pulled into my parking area and Josie was Molly's groomer. I can't tell you what exactly happened in that van - but what I can tell you is my dog looked fantastic and she was not stressed in the slightest. Normally, when I pick her up from a grooming session, she is so excited to see me. I can't be positive...but Molly might have gone home with Josie (who is now my permanent choice for a groomer). Here is the reality - the service of Avery's is definitely a bit more expensive than a traditional salon. I can tell you for a dog like Molly there will never be a traditional salon so long as Avery's is an option for me. The lack of stress for her, which translates into the lack of stress for me, is worth every penny. I don't know too many dogs that love the grooming experience to begin with - so this helps dogs that don't suffer from anxiety like my girl. I can also say that there is a lot of time saved from going back and forth to the groomer for me. I went back into my condo while Molly was getting all dolled up by Josie, and merely walked outside my building to pick her back up. It was so simple it is a bit ridiculous that everyone with a dog doesn't just take advantage of this type of dog grooming. I make it a point to provide feedback on Yelp because I rely on the feedback of others frequently. I only give honest input...good or bad. I definitely recommend Avery's without hesitation. I was a client of avery's for a couple years. The groomer we had was fantastic. Ownership is very unorganized and unprofessional. Recently they asked for a 50 dollar deposit to secure our digs appt. I challenged it feeling it was inappropriate and never done before ever. There response was to cancell the appointment and advise me that they will not service my area. Who does that to a loyal client who has over paid ($170) plus tip for their dogs grooming service. I am beyond disappointed and feel that this is a behavior done buy a company who is on the ropes and about to go under. It truly is a shame for our dog and family truly loved our groomer. After almost 10 years it is time to give up on this company. I do not find the owner to be professional in her business practices. After they moved me to an 8 week appointment, the groomer I usually have got sick so they had to cancel that appointment. The next appointment they could give me would be 2.5 weeks later with a different groomer. I confirmed this appointment and since they required a $50 deposit back in November of 2021 for the appointment they canceled I did not have to send another. About a week after I confirmed this new appointment I got an email stating my cost were being increased $25 per dog. Most professionals give advance notice of proposed increases and do not assess them to an appointment they had to reschedule. The email I received stated my new appointment would be on 1/22 at 1:00. This groomer showed up at 3:10. I was recovering from surgery and was unable to pick up my dogs so I had a few pictures to show this groomer. He had no interest in looking at them. He pointed at one of my dogs and proclaimed her as probably matted from 10 feet away. I said it was my other dog who might have mats behind her ears because she likes to rub her head on carpet so the static electricity makes her ears stick up. A second groomer showed up and he said that was his assistant. They took my dogs to the van. When they came back the price he gave me was a little higher than I expected so instead of really looking at my dogs I was looking for additional money since I pay in cash. After they left I saw that while leaving the hair on the head of my older dog rather full he shaved her body down to the skin. I assure you this dog was not matted and this did not need to be down. She also had a few clipper burns on her belly. My younger dog had her muzzle down differently on both sides. One side was clipped short and rounded and the other side of her face the hair was long and staggered. She also had a strange notch cut out of one ear. I found out the reason the amount was different than I had prepared for was because they now add a trip charge of $15 which I was never told about. Again very unprofessional to add fees without notifying the customers In advance. pre pandemic shutdown cost groom plus tax. $216 post pandemic shutdown cost groom plus tax. $248.40 2022 increases groom, trip fare, plus tax. $318.60 Less service with poor quality work my response $318.60 to $0 Owner has said the trip charge was due to the increase cost of gasoline. If her two vans both only made 3 trips a day, 6 days a week she would still be getting over $2,000 a month for gasoline. Now since this is a mobile business a cost for gasoline should have been one of business expenses that were used in determining her grooming price. Since this company was started in 2008 that should have been a relatively high estimate of expected gasoline price. In my opinion this company does not do a true cost analysis to determine how and what prices need to be adjusted. I find them to be totally unprofessional and feel I cannot work with them anymore. read more

We've been using Avery's Mobile Grooming for our 100-lb GSD mix rescue for a couple of years and it's the only way to get this dog clean! He is too anxious for a storefront groomer and just will. not. go. in. The van is the way to go and only Avery's handles large breeds. The same groomer comes every time, so our dog knows her. She is gentle and patient, and brings him back to the house with coat stripped of extra floof, washed *and fully dried*, ears cleaned, and nails carefully trimmed. His claws are black so you can't see the quick. I'm afraid to trim them myself and am happy to have a pro take care of it. 5 stars -- be prepared to be patient about scheduling, though. They are doing their best with a staff that's stretched to the max. read more

We (Marley & Me) had the pleasure of experiencing the Avery's Salon treatment on 11/13/19 and OMG!! Let me start off from the moment we stepped into Avery's Pet Styling Salon & Boutique we felt at ease. They (Taria and Ashley) greeted my Marley (a 18mo 75lb Golden Retriever) like he was family coming for a visit, and it was our 1st visit. They never rushed us, as I had so many questions. We had been to other groomers saying they know how to groom a golden retriever and they were just cutting up my beautiful baby's hair. However, at Avery's, they were really knowledgeable and seemed very experience in the field. I felt so comfortable, like I've been there before. By time I left my Marley for his spa day, I knew he was in good hands. They gave Marley a full bath, facial and he loved it. When I picked him up, he looked so handsome and was so excited. Marley looked and felt like he was a show dog they gave him more than just a bath and haircut, as he was so pampered. I work during normal dog salon/groomers' hours M-F and travel frequently (with our pup) on weekends, so trips to the groomers have always been a much dreaded hassle that required a fair amount of scheduling in advance... DIsaster. Avoid at all costs. My dog was butchered. The owner acknowledged the " mistake" and offered free grooming for a year, but it will take a year for his fur to grow back. This was , beyond a doubt, the worst experience I ever had. The first time I went to Avery's my dog looked terrific. I asked for the same groomer and I was told she moved on. I brought pictures to make sure they knew what I wanted. Instead I was told there was a mishap with equipment and they practically shaved my dog and even left patches without fur. Do not risk this . Both my dogs and I love Avery's Mobile Pet Styling Salon. Every groomer has been excellent with my dogs. They are professional, friendly, polite, and adhere to specific directions, as one of my dogs has medical issues. I needed a mobile groomer since my one pup is a rescue and too afraid of strangers. I was advised not to leave at a pet store that does grooming, by the rescue. I went hunting on the Yellow Pages. After much consideration, I chose Avery's. They are prompt but will call if running late or early. My girls look fabulous afterwards. My one pup is skittish around strangers but she's comfortable around the groomers. My other pup is loosing her hair and the groomers are very aware of trimming not cutting her hair. I've never had any problems or issues with Avery's and they are very easy to reach by phone or email. I highly recommend them. read more

The big plus to this place is that they come to your door. They bring a state of the art mobile styling salon and it is equipped with water and electric so they do not need to hook up to your utilities. They did a great job treating my dog to a shampoo and haircut and getting all of his loose undercoat out so that he can stay cool during the upcoming summer months. He also smells really good too. I would recommend them to anyone. The convenience of them coming to my house and not having to load him in the car and drive across town twice in one day is great. This review is regarding the mobile service. A few weeks ago our car was having issues right at the same time that my pup was in need of a groom. I was at a lose until I found this business that offered exactly the type of service I was in need of. Today my pup just had an experience with the mobile salon and she seems to be such a happy girl! The groomer did a nice job listening to what I wanted for my dogs cut and paid attention to making sure her nails were rounded off and weren't left sharp, which is a big problem we have with other groomers. The cost is worth what the experience allows for myself and my dog to have and it's surprisingly the only mobile service that I found that actually services the city of Philadelphia and not just the suburbs. The only difficult issue (and the reason for the 4 star and not 5) was trying to schedule. It was a really long turn around and I personally got into a game of phone tag/email tag. However, I would say once things were squared away it was smooth sailing from there. I definitely will recommend this to friends in the city and the burbs that may be interested in this type of service. I am just extremely happy to know there is a place that offers this for when I need another option for a groomer during a difficult situation. read more

Our grooming experiences in the past have been difficult because Riley is so nervous and many mobile groomers feel he is too big to manage. Took our 6-year old Shih Tzu here for the first time. We could not be more pleased. Our pup lost his tail in an accident and is extremely sensitive about grooming around his rear end. The groomer at Avery's listened to everything we had to say about his cut and his psychological issues. If I could rate them higher than 5 stars I absolutely would! I've used Avery's for over two years and am beyond satisfied with their services. My cat is about 17 years old. He doesn't go outside, and at his age I kind of let him do his thing. I got a dog recently and my dog thinks Christopher John (yes, that's my cats name...) is her personal pet. Anytime we give CJ some attention, Samantha Lee (yes, that's the dogs name) screams and jumps at the cat. Becasue of this it can be hard to give him attention. I thought what a better way to pamper him than to have Avery's come over for a spa day. I was not disappointed! Just yesterday they came and CJ had an oatmeal treatment for his slight dandruff problem, a pina colada facial scrub, a hydromassage bath and a dematting and deshedding brushing. And he loved every second of it according to his spa professional. As Avery's comes to you I simply brought him out to them and when they were done they called and i went outside to get him. He smelled wonderful and was purring like it was going out of style. I really do think he loves every second of his spa day. Now, they are a little pricey. But, for the servcies that they give and the way they treat him, I would pay even more! I have a quaterly reminder now so every three months CJ is being pampered! Thank you Avery's for being around! I couldn't ask for a more professional staff and product! USE THEM! You won't be disappointed!!! read more

I just had my "son" groomed last weekend. I was extremely pleased! He has lots of skin tags and dry skin. I explained this to the groomer. She listened very carefully. While we were talking she also introduced herself to my boy. He was very happy to interact with her. When I got him back several hours later he & his breath smelled great. He was happy & handsome! They listen to her needs and modify what they do based on exactly what we say and our pup gets 1:1 focus. We used the mobile grooming service for our cat last month because it is hard to take him anywhere because he gets worked up and urinates out of fear. It was our first experience with him getting groomed and I had put it off for some time out of fear of his reaction. He had some matting and was overall not so clean. The girl who came out did a fantastic job and was friendly. She came on time. We just had to bring our cat out to her in a carrier and she did the grooming in the vehicle. He came back to us super clean and shaved with a lion cut. Best of all, he didn't even look or act scared and he didn't pee on himself! She somehow kept him nice and calm. We will use Avery's mobile service again in the future! read more

I dealt with Avery's once before about 5 years ago and aside from it being a bit pricey I was happy with the service. However this last experience was very disappointing. My mother made an appointment for her dog and my Persian cat to be groomed. My mother had to call twice when they never responded to her first message and tell them she would consider another groomer if her call wasnt returned. My mother wont even tell me the final cost of the services so I know it was waaay too much. We were quoted $125-$175...per pet. It costs me $75 to get my cat groomed normally. So its a bit much just to have someone come out to you. I stated that I wanted Hunter shaved down...completely. My mother called me when the groomer wasnt able to comply with my request. I was told over the phone that because my cat is older it wasnt a good idea to shave her down as I had requested. My regular groomer has never had problem doing this and she has never been cut or injured after being groomed. But I can respect a companies policy. I was told that my cat would be cut down with maybe 3/4 inch of hair remaining. I was shocked when my brother brought my cat back to me as it looked like she hadnt even received a haircut. Nor did she smell like she had been bathed. Previously she had a wonderful scent after the grooming. Now however, I couldnt smell it or see it. Im sorry, at least $125 and she doesnt even smell good? My mother wasnt impressed by the services either, complaining about the fact that her other groomer provided more for the money. I called to the office to question once again why my cat had so much fur left on her. My cat doesnt have back claws and the fur gets caught up in her teeth when she tries to groom herself so I have her shaved down for a reason. I was a bit upset that my cat still had fur getting caught up in her teeth when grooming herself and wondered why they couldnt at least shave down the hair on her tail which was still at least 2 1/2 inches long. I sent pictures of my cat to the email address after speaking with Samantha. I got a call back and after a lengthy conversation was told, on a Friday, that I would receive a call back by Tues and that she would come out and make things right. Tues went by, Weds and Thurs as well. I finally emailed them back on Friday...a week later and as of Mon, 10 days after the fact, still have not heard a thing. These people are too expensive and dont care about customer service or following through on what they say. Update............Avery's emailed me to schedule an apt, came out the next day and gave Hunter a Lions cut that was great. Hunter is once again walking around like the Queen of the Jungle. In the end they made good on their word and you cant ask for more than that. read more
