We have 2 dogs, both rescues from Lancaster puppy mills. One was a mill momma for 7 years and very traumatized. We spent 2 years working through her trauma. Then we adopted a 4 month old through the same rescue. Far less trauma, but we knew 2 things - she was smart as a whip - and going to be a handful so we decided to find a trainer. The rescue partners with At Attention so we looked into them. At first I was turned off by the aggressive, military bootcamp style name - then was pleasantly surprised to learn they do only positive reinforcement training. We looked at their services and staff and chose Andrea. Loved her back story and felt she'd have the vibe that would be right for our trauma dog. And she did. We'd never worked to train our trauma dog beyond the absolute basics because her trauma was so deep she'd revert. The pup however needed active training. We did the initial consult and Andrea observed all the things with little input from us, suggested a plan that included giving the trauma dog the basics. So we signed up for 5 sessions of the basic puppy training at our home because - again - the trauma dog would not have done well out of her environment. I can't say enough positive things about our experience with Andrea. She's got definite "dog whisperer" mojo. She's knowledgeable, loves the dogs and is just a kind hearted spirit (which the trauma dog gravitates to). The new puppy hit the extra willful stage so we signed up for another 5 sessions and it's been kind of miraculous. The puppy is learning the rules and older trauma pooch is learning how to be a dog. The two now play together for extended periods of time, something we never thought the trauma dog would have in her life. The trauma dog is helping to teach the puppy the rules of the house, and the puppy is teaching her how to be - well - a puppy. Money well spent and Andrea is an amazing trainer!

My research has shown that the more vaccines you give your pet the more likely they are to get sick. Be very careful what you give them. Our pets life expectancy are being reduced. Kennel cough vaccine only covers a couple strains. It does not protect against the dozens of others. Usually dogs recover quickly from kennel could. You cannot blame the kennel. They are wonderful there. Keep your dog in your home if you are nervous.

From the start, we were told we had everything we needed for the program. That was false. After our first session, I left having spent an additional $60+ on a leash and a bungee cord attachment for the collar -- items that had been used on Cosmo all day but were not included in the $2,499 program. At our second session, a new collar adapter was offered for his smaller frame -- another $40. They offered to loan it to me to try before purchasing. I took it home, and given everything that followed, I consider it part of the $2,499 I will never see again. I found myself wondering what would have been for sale at session three. Our second session was a disaster. Cosmo was drop dead exhausted during our end-of-day lesson -- so much so that he could not complete the final hour of scheduled training. The treat bag I brought also came back full. After our first session we had been told to bring more treats because Cosmo was clearly food motivated -- so a full bag told me everything I needed to know. Cosmo also has allergies and cannot have their treats, so if theirs were the only reward offered, he got nothing all day. My core reason for enrolling was to address Cosmo's reactivity. I raised this specifically when we signed up, and flagged it again at drop-off on the morning of our second session, where I was told it would be passed along to the trainer. This turned out to be critical, as the environment that day was chaotic -- multiple dogs barking, overwhelming noise, exactly the kind of situation I had sought help managing. When I arrived for the end-of-day session and the trainer was still not aware of my concern, I raised it again myself. It was never trained through. Instead, Cosmo was collar corrected through it -- and yelped and jumped in pain as a result. That is not what I signed up for and not something I will ever unsee. When I raised these concerns, I was communicating directly with the owner. At every turn I was respectful, measured, and gave every opportunity for accountability. What I got in return was mansplaining and condescension. I was told my dog's lack of progress was my fault. Rather than address my concerns, he responded with analogies -- that expecting results without completing the program was like expecting to become a doctor without finishing medical school, or pulling a cake out of the oven before it's done. My actual concern -- my dog in pain -- was never acknowledged. Not once.

I have worked with a trainer before and the trainer taught my dog what I wanted him to learn. SMS only teaches the dog what they want them to learn. The clause about not writing a negative review about them has been removed from their paperwork. As another poster wrote it was there when he went & he is correct. I have heard it from others as well. If you are confident your work is good why would anyone put that in a contract?? What are they trying to hide?? I did ask the judge if I am allowed to post on the net and he said yes as long as what I say is true to my experience. The experience was 100% negative. I took Sal to court. I didn't win becuase all the judge would say is you signed a contract. Yes, but the contract wasn't given to me to keep until months later. Sal admitted changing his website just a couple weeks before he had to appear in court. I find that interesting when he had many month earlier to do it. (he told the judge he did it a couple weeks before appearing) What was he hiding?? Sal-owner showed a video to the judge of my dog behaving. However my dog could do this before he went. He was there to learn other things I needed him to learn. However that was not a part of the mundane, repetitious program he offers. He told the judge my dog was wonderful! BUT he kept my dog in the beginner class (his admission) for 8 months. WHY? No response. If my dog didn't do something perfect I was told to increase the number on the electric collar. As an educator I know negative reinforcement never works and raising it was not the solution. He yelled at me for coming too early but in the contract it states if you are late he will fine you $50.00. He also yelled at me for sometimes leaving early. As an adult I need to make my own decissions and can leave when I want to. His ad said his trainer were certified. They are not. I learned that the hard way by contacting dog training schools (after I left) and was told they require 2-300 hours of training before one is certified. He reworded his ad (as I mentioned earlier) right before we went to court. One female trainer spent 40% of the class time on her phone. I could go on and on but why bother. In closing-I find it comical that after I took him to court he sent me an email to write a review about the company. I wonder what he was expecting. Do NOT sign the contract when you are there. Take it home and read it carefully line by line - word by word (as per the judge). Someone else was coerced into signing and could not get her deposit back even though she contacted them within hours of signing it. Please feel free to contact me if you want to discuss further.

When we first started working with Michelle, we could barely make it out our front door. Walks felt overwhelming due to reactivity to cars, people, and other dogs. We began private lessons with Michelle about four weeks after bringing our pup home, and she was truly amazing from day one. Patient, knowledgeable, and incredibly supportive, she met us exactly where we were and gave us practical tools that made a real difference. Now, the transformation has been unbelievable. We're regularly going on multiple 1+ mile walks every day, and they're not just manageable...they're genuinely enjoyable. Navy absolutely loves them, and so do we. Even though Dina never hides from strangers, she does tend to act aloof around them. But she seemed to get along really well with Lauren the first time they met. While I was away during the summer, Lauren did a great job taking care of Dina. I love that she recorded what she did with Dina during every visit in details. She definitely cares a lot about the animals she takes care of! Dina had a good time with her. She even gained a little weight (definitely not overweight though) from all that pampering.
