As many others have said, I really want to give more than just 5 stars to Five Paws! I am so thrilled with their service and my dog was incredibly well cared for (and even extremely happy) in my absence. After last minute having to make (social distancing friendly) travel plans for the Thanksgiving holiday (which would require me being out of state longer to clean test for COVID before returning), I was in a bit of a frantic panic. My mom moved about an hour away this past summer and is no longer able to do early morning walks (I am extremely grateful and lucky that she was able to fill-in whenever I have needed until now). The main issue is that my dog is not the friendliest (which is a huge understatement). I desperately researched online for the highest rated dog walkers/sitters (and even some boarding options), cross compared/stacked up against total # of reviews. Five Paws was consistently the #1 choice/preference. I reached out via their contact form, noting I was slightly (extremely) nervous about the whole process and wasn't sure/confident about how things would go - particularly as I would not be able to change plans to return early if something happened. Jenn got back to me right away and said they could make it work. She also reassured me that there would be a pre-meet and greet with the actual sitter/walker who would be coming each day, in advance. Turned out, there was nothing to worry about! We met Michelle on Sunday afternoon and my dog absolutely loved her - right from the get-go (which almost NEVER happens)! That put me at ease (or as much ease as I was going to feel until after the first few days away). We walked my dog's normal routes, and I showed her where everything would be inside that she might need, including cleaning supplies in case the dog had an accident. Michelle took everything in stride, and didn't even mention how my house looked like a complete disaster zone (thank goodness)!
Throughout the entire time I was away, without asking, I received daily photo and text updates on how things went/were going after each visit (and honestly, they were some of the best photos of Suzie in years!). Michelle even said in one of her first updates that my dog was just "the sweetest". My actually-very-lovable Suzie Q is high energy and a former foster. She is very territorial/protective w/ a really loud/deep bark, and she comes off/looks very scary when she growls. Most people wince (out of complete terror) until they get to know her. Suzie is also very strong (and stubborn/strong-willed) if/when in "protect" mode - usually against another human/dog she sees walking nearby. To say I was extremely worried would be an understatement, but things went extremely smoothly the entire time I was gone.
From a practical POV, the price was really great (exceptional even, based on the level of care and attention/service you actually get for the low cost), and there were many options to choose from including an overnight in your own home, an almost overnight (which includes a playtime visit "before bed" and a walk first thing the next morning), and walk/quick potty breaks in varying time lengths (you indicate the normal walk hours in your profile and they try to accommodate as closely as they can). Each includes food/water refreshes and treats/play (and meds, if needed). While I didn't use it this time, I was also impressed/excited that they even offer small extra inclusion services, as needed/requested, to do tasks like watering your plants or bringing in the mail for you. The whole process was quite easy/painless (except for one glitch early-on before I left where the required profile info/details/summaries about my pet which you create on each owner's online account page in the Five Paws company's system, didn't save the first time around, and I had to redo the whole thing - not really a big deal, though). The fees for holiday scheduling were also not exorbitant. I provided two house keys - one for the new lockbox they had available for purchase to allow easy house entrance/access (and which is now mine to keep) and one that they will keep in their office safe box in case there is ever an issue (*note: two keys were not required but strongly suggested to ensure a backup option is always available - and, I already had spares available, anyway).
In all, I felt extremely well informed and taken care of - from start to finish. Our sitter/walker, Michelle, has already said she looks forward to sitting for Suzie again in the future, and to be quite honest, both Suzie and I couldn't agree more - we can't wait to use Five Paws again! Thank you so so sooooo much. I can't even begin to convey just how much of a huge relief it is to know now that I have a safe and reliable alternative for Suzie Q whenever I may need to travel for work/personal. 5+ stars for Five Paws - you're the best!!!! read more
