I advertised for dog walkers on Nextdoor and received a few responses from kids and other dog lovers. When Jack Feldmann the owner of Your Pet's Best Friend reached out to me, it was immediately apparent that he is a professional -- the real deal. He and his associate, Kevin Wilson, were totally unfazed by Zippy's size and potential for problems. Both developed great relationships with our monster dog and managed him beautifully. When we found out our cat had an infection (via Vet's phone call) while we were out of town, she was able to change the schedule to come twice a day instead of once to give him his medicine. Last year Duffy got kennel cough from the site and it cost me over $100 to get her medication. The entire kennel was infected and I did ask if there would be some compensation, even a free day for our inconvenience but I was told there was nothing corporate was willing to do. Hearing about how the animals that need certain supplies, foods, treatment makes sense--every animal is different. However from what I've heard the staff hardly have any supplies to properly care for these animals, and when they don't they have to resort to different methods or tools that don't work. It's not just the poor babies--animals--that get mistreated. The workers get mistreated too. I've heard that so many of the workers have respiratory conditions due to the state of the facility and the lack for masks, gloves, and other protective equipment. For example, my friend who told me about all this complains about having constant shortness of breath due to the shedding of hair going into their respiratory system--and they don't have the equipment to properly protect themselves. I would NOT recommend bringing your baby here because they do not deserve to be mistreated! Also...maggots, urine, fecal matter...have been found on dogs. Some workers don't even clean this up...
