Empanadas + alfajores + garlic knots
Mayra F.

Sighhh. I was excited to try this place as I've heard good things about it. I went within an hour of closing and so I hope this is the reason it didn't meet my expectations. I had a slice of jalapeño pepperoni - it looked like it had been sitting out for a while and even though they warm it up in the oven, it still tasted old and overcooked. The empanada was also dry and the short rib lacked flavor. The spicy chimichurri was good! The alfajores were also delish! The ambiance is super cute and cozy. Next time I'll go closer to when the pies are fresh. I'd like to try some of their other unique menu items. Will def be back. Great location!

Tried this place on a recent Friday night at 8:00pm, and it was a pleasant experience. It is located in Downtown Downey, which houses lots of restaurants, bars, stores, etc. There's mostly structure lot parking in this area, but you may be able to find street parking too. The ambiance of Avenue Pizzeria is quaint and quiet, compared to all of the louder bar/club restaurants nearby. It's a nice contrast, if that's what you're looking for. The staff were super helpful and fun to chat with. The pizza itself is decent, and they have a to-go window outside which is convenient.

We love going to Avenue Pizza! Especially for happy hour the slices are half price during that time and a great little snack to have. My favorite size is the mushroom. I also really enjoy the meatball red pepper slice. The staff is super nice and I love going to try new flavors!

Pepperoni pizza was fabulous! Went here on a whim thinking it would be whatever and it was amazing. Crispy on bottom and enough cheese on top, which is often an issue for me. Would definitely go back!! Maybe 8 choices at 7:30pm on a weekday plus empanadas.

Garlic Knots

Good price, good food, $5 happy hour with piping hot pies and a classic pizzeria setting. There's a limited selection for vegetarians but what I could order did hit the spot, especially the marinara sauce that comes with the garlic knots. I cleaned that little container. And they weren't skimpy with it either. All the food are served steaming hot, soft and crunchy in all the right places. Nothing was too greasy or too cheesy to lick off your fingers after eating. It's a childish habit I'm not sure if I could ever quit. Where times like this, there's no justification on wiping all that flavor off. Perfect kind of place for a slice of NY nostalgia, just off the street, all that's missing is a cellar for stand up next door.

What a great experience. This pizzeria is a fantastic reuse of a former movie theater! I loved how they preserved photos and elements from the original theater. It gives the space so much character! The food was excellent! I got a slice of pepperoni and chicken buffalo pizza and both were delicious! It's always refreshing to see a space thoughtfully reimagined and executed this well. I can't wait to come back again.

I really like the pizza here. My favorite is the White Pie! Must always get a beer, perfect combo. The service is always great. The employees are super nice and friendly. The have a few booths and tables inside. One restroom so cautious of a line forming. It was getting busy and they had a line out the door.

Food was delicious. The moment we walked in Karen and Gaby greeted us . We had a Large pepperoni shared it between 5 of us. They are made to order. So nice hot and cheesy. Great hidden spot worth trying out so glad we stopped for pizza

Kinda soggy and not chewy like crust should be. And the boneless chicken wings were super deep fried. Wasn't expecting that. We should have been told it was going to be like that. No one really liked it. For what we paid and the fact that this was supposed to be wood fired etc, I thought it was going to be better. I feel like we paid good money, but we did not get good food. I feel ripped off. We only ate around half of it cuz everyone was hungry, but no one liked it enough to even want to take it home. We threw away almost all the chicken and half the pizza

Finally tried the Burratino's trendy black onion pizza!…read more One issue we found is that we didn't really know where to park. Update: The black onion really didn't suit my tastes. But I did enjoy the italian sausage and basil. Still so glad I got to try it. I heard many people say that the black onion was sweet, but personally, It didn't taste sweet to me. The sauce was quite overbearing. The comments were right about one thing: it was very tangy. However, the good news is that my family loved it. If the family loves it, then it really has the potential. We loved the ambiance! The restaurant is very clean, seriously spotless. Based on our experiance, we also found the restaurant is empty. The plants outdoors really set the vibe. I love how it feels like you are in a garden. The inside feels like a typical pizza place. Very calming, and cool temperatures. Their pizza is fresh and everything is done well. The service is outstanding. For anyone who is new to the place, the waiters will bring you the pizza after ordering. They came as soon as possible and everything was delivered well. While I wasn't a fan of the black onion marinara, I do believe that we will come back in the future and try a few different pizzas. I am still willing to think that maybe I didn't order the right thing and that there is more flavors to try. Thank you Burratino's Brick Oven Pizza for the wonderful experiance. I am willing to try the restaurant again.

This had been on my list for awhile, and I finally made it down here to try out the "black garlic"…read moresauce on a pizza. I placed my order online for a medium 12 inch cheese pizza with the black garlic sauce, well done, and drove down to pick it up. $18.00. How was it? Meh! 12 Inch Cheese Pizza with Black Garlic Sauce- For as much as this pizza is hyped, it totally fell short. The dough was bad. It wasn't a thin NY style, and it wasn't a thicker hand tossed style. It was somewhere in the middle, and just didn't work. It was extremely chewy and not in a good way. It reminded me of how my homemade pizzas turned out when I first started out and used some dead yeast. It was like the dough didn't rise properly, no crunch on the bottom, and hard to get through. The black garlic sauce wasn't even that good, either. It was pasty and didn't even have a "garlic" punch to it. I powered through the whole pizza as to not waste food, but it was one of the worst pizzas I can remember ordering from a non chain establishment. Not sure how this place gets 4 and 5 star reviews. 99% sure I would never come back. Too many other Mom and Pop places that serve way better pizza.

After the sixth lunch buffet purchase, you get a free lunch buffet! When I went for the lunch buffet at noon, they had The Everest (classic combination pizza: pepperoni, Italian sausage, salami, mushrooms, black olives, bell peppers on red sauce), Pineapple Chicken Luau (grilled chicken, bacon, pineapple on BBQ sauce), Hawaiian (ham and pineapple), Pepperoni (curly pepperoni cups on red sauce), and Garlic Sticks with Cheese. Staff constantly checked in to make sure there were plenty of pizza slices for the patrons, including myself. They have both table and booth seatings. I love how they have claw machines, which gives the pizza joint a fun and inviting vibe. I've also separately ordered a large 14" pizza - half Mt. Veggiemore and half Hawaiian, which was served hot and fresh. Always coming back - whether for their lunch buffet or to order their specialty pizzas! Next time I want to order their Mountain size - 20" which has 20 slices!

Mountain Mike's is a large pizza chain (over 300 in US), that has locations mainly in the Western…read moreU.S. It competes with other pizza chains that offer lunch time AYCE pizza buffets. I first heard about it through my credit card offers. Brought my wife and her mom to the closest location in Norwalk when it first opened around 11 am on a weekday (specifically to have the buffet, priced at $11.99 without drink) and found the price and food to be good. The first Mountain Mike's opened near Stanford in Palo Alto in 1978 (it's interesting how some chain restaurants opened first as a local joint on a college campus and then grew to become a lot more than that...Jimmy John's comes to mind, though I am not comparing EIU to Stanford). There are 271 locations in California, with over 30 in SoCal now. The set-up of the restaurant was a bit different than I was expecting from a buffet restaurant. It's located on the first story in a multi-story office building with other restaurants. Parking can be tough: there's a lot of surface parking but the many other businesses in the complex (including a LA fitness) take up a lot of spaces as well. We were one of the first ones to come in. You order and pay first (then handed two plates: one for pizza and one for salad), and find seating in the small indoor dining room (maybe enough seating for 20 diners) or larger front patio (another 20). It doesn't have dedicated steam tables for the pizza, instead the pizzas are put under heat lamps at the front counter, and a very small refrigerated salad section is part of the price. This means the selection is small for both the pizzas and salad bar, and really only 2 people can be selecting at a time. They offer different types of crusts on the menu, but the only one at the buffet was traditional (typical pillowy hand-tossed) with a crispy bottom, but a bit thick for my preference. There is space for 4 pizzas (the kitchen combines different topping slices into one pan, so there are probably 8 different types at a time) and a small basket of cheese bread. The salad bar was basic but the toppings were fresh. Off to the side, there is a self-serve soda fountain with Pepsi products. Next to that, there is a 'Game' section, just 6 different crane games, ripe to take your money. On the initial pizzas, the cheese was plentiful along with plenty of toppings, and the crust was well cooked. As the pizzas were getting refilled, the replacements were not as good: amount of cheese was definitely a lot less and the toppings were more haphazard. I tried both pizzas with marinara (liked) and bbq sauce (not as much). The toppings were good: with the vegetables being sliced thinly so cooked al dente, and the quality of the sausage was solid (far better than Dominos or Pizza Hut). And their classic pepperoni pizza was well liked by our group. Read on-line that at other places, one can ask for specific pizzas to be made for the buffet, but didn't seem like that was encouraged here (since only space for 4 pizzas and no thin crust). Regardless, for $11.99, this is great value, especially with a salad bar.
