My review is based on my round trip flight experience from Cincinnati to Fort Lauderdale. If you have ever tried flying anywhere from CVG, you'll know how difficult it is to find cheap, affordable direct flights to anywhere that isn't a hub. Flying to FLL costs me not only an arm, but also half a day. Flying direct with Delta costs another leg and a half. I found out Allegiant was starting to offer flights and was super shocked that a direct flight was cheaper than the connection flights with US Air, and even more shocked that it was available on Friday afternoon with an early afternoon Sunday return. Absolutely perfect. Like most things that seem too good to be true, I looked up the airline and was wary because of claims that there were consistent delays, bad service, and no way of getting on other flights since they only operate one a day. But after my trip, I have to say it was super pleasant. Sure, there's no complimentary drink or cookie, no free carry on, and you can't recline the seats, but I'm not a giant, I can bring my own food, and I can pack light. Plus, a carry on still brings the ticket price to below a bearable level. I have only ridden once, but I was definitely pleased by their promptness, on time departures and arrivals, competency of the pilots, politeness of the flight attendants, and acceptable interior space capacity.

The Alaska Airlines folks were pretty awesome, though our flight had been set up through Delta, apparently it'd not gotten all the way to the Alaska Airline's desk, so I had to speak with the desk agent while they worked it out, I'm glad I did, they were very friendly, efficient and got the job done without any problem. Mom, using a cane, was one of the first to board the prop plane (First time in ages, that I got to fly one of those!) and she was treated with great care when we got off too, even though, somewhere along the line our luggage got lost.

We had booked out flights online, watching Google for the best pricing available. Over the course…read moreof a couple months the price fluctuated a couple hundred dollars per ticket. Needing 4 tickets, that made a huge difference! We had selected the basic economy flight, but that comes with a carry on only and your seats were selected for you. For a nominal upgrade we were able to each have 2 carry on items as well as select our own seats, so we were able to sit with one another. Our flight times were spot on and we didn't encounter any delays at any point during our trip. In fact, they joked as we landed better then 30 min early to please remember that for the next time they ran late. We had short lay over in Denver going and returning. Both times our gate was relatively close to where we landed giving us enough time to grab a bite to eat between flights. Staff were friendly on the planes and did everything they could to keep passengers comfortable. They were really easy going offering the entire soda instead of pouring just a little of each can into a cup. They were also generous with the snacks. The pilots communicated well and let us know about weather as well as sites we were flying over. In all we were very pleased with this flight experience. Two of the people in our party had never flown before, so this was a great first experience to get them off on the right foot. I've only flown United one other time and that experience was just as good as this time around. I wouldn't hesitate to fly with United in the future.

The Delta agent at the Cancun airport was nice and helpful. The SkyWest agent at the Eugene airport…read morewas nice and helpful. The flight coming home was 30 minutes early which was very helpful. It was basically pretty smooth of course there was some turbulence but no big deal. Our bags arrived on time so you know they got all the basics right and it was fine. Except... Delta customer service is absolutely horrible. If you call you'll wait on the phone for our minimum of 1 to 2 hours before getting to speak to someone. That is atrociously bad. They encourage you to use the messaging on the website however this is not much better. What times are a little bit shorter but still at least 30 minutes to an hour or more. Plus of course that is far less efficient to have to keep typing typing back-and-forth typing it's a really lousy way to give customer service. Additionally, there is a ongoing malfunction both on their website and their mobile app. If you try to upgrade your seats, once you have jumped through all the hoops and completed the form the last thing is putting in the CVV code for your credit card, but after you put that in and press submit, the CVV code disappears and you get an error the transaction does not process. So, you have to call and endure this two hour wait on the phone. However that guarantees you nothing. In our case, we purchased a one-way ticket from Cancun to the United States. When you do that using the website or mobile app it forces you to pay in Mexican currency does not give you any option to pay in US dollars. This seems crazy but it's how their system is set up. If it was limited to that then you know maybe no big deal. However, after enduring a two hour hold to speak to someone on the phone. Oh and by the way the other thing is Paying partly in mileage and partly in money. Apparently, if you are buying a ticket you can do this on the website or mobile app(assuming you can get it to take your credit card), however you cannot do this if you are upgrading your seats. And, on the mobile app/website you cannot upgrade one seat at a time use Miles for one and money for the other, because their system forces you to do both upgrades together as a group. So it's impossible. After waiting the two hours on hold and speaking to the agent her first answer was this is impossible can't do it. Then after more discussion she finally realized oh yes it is possible by doing one seat at a time doing them separately. Do one seat with mileage and do the other seat with money. OK fine, so after all this time she's moving forward and doing it. However when she gets to taking Payment. The credit card fails. Why? Because the original reservation was paid for in Mexican currency! But it was the Delta system that demanded that and now when you try to upgrade because you're doing it over the phone of their system at the phone center only can run the credit card in US dollars but it fails to go through because the original transaction was in pesos. This is just ridiculous. Nonetheless, five days later there are two $300 charges still on my credit card as pending which presumably will drop off eventually but it's been five days and they still haven't dropped off. What an effing mess. And then there's the food. This is an international flight. My experience with other airlines as they include an actual meal especially if you pay extra to be in the economy comfort seats. Which brings up another point, as if the ticket was already not rather expensive ($375 one way per ticket... Although this was cheaper than buying round-trip tickets it still a lot that $750 round-trip! From the Pacific Northwest to Cancun. But not completely outrageous I suppose just rather high. But then when you wanna upgrade your seat coming back just for one leg of the trip, I want $150 per ticket! And that gets you 34 inches of legroom instead of 31 inches. And really not much else. And my experience with other airlines particularly on an international flight when you pay extra to be in the Comfort class you actually get an actual meal included. Not true for Delta at least on this flight. You can buy a snack box for $15! And what odd is they never really even offered it. Period and the flight was definitely during dinner time. But the flight attendants were perfectly decent in fact the first class flight attendant was quite nice and since we were in the very first row of Comfort she allowed us to use the first class restroom. So there were a few bright spots but Delta Airline sure has horrible horrible customer service. You have to wait on hold for two hours to talk to somebody? That is so ridiculous. Atrocious. I have filled out their feedback forms on this about three different times and of course never heard anything back.

One thing that is a huge positive with smaller airports is that the chaotic crowds you can experience at a place like LAX are unheard of here. People, staff and customers, are all very friendly and accommodating. Car rental terminals are located near the baggage claim, which is really convenient. Once I was off the plane I started to head to get my bag and thought since I had a few minutes I could take care of my rental first. No line here either, easy to work with and offered upgrades (huge bonus+++). By the time I was done grabbing my rental the familiar horns sounded and the bags started flowing. Once I had all my stuff it was off to find the rental. A little different here, in that, all rental places share the same lot, so they have numbered spaces for each company. Once my rental was found it was a mater of minutes and I was on the road to my final destination. They aren't exceptionally close to Eugene, but 15 - 20 minutes can get you most paces you would want to be in the city.

I asked the driver about the lack of a meter, and he said it wasn't required if rates were posted on the side of the cab. Fair enough, I guess, but I also couldn't see how he chose his route (which seemed out of the way - I've driven to the airport many times and would never take that route). When we got to my house, the charge was higher than I've ever paid for a cab home from the airport, and I take them with some frequency.
