Should you find yourself in Erie PA, make sure you stop at Avanti's for breakfast! This locally owned, classic American style diner has been a favorite since 2019 and has never disappointed. The service is always friendly and the servers know the menu like they're tested on it weekly lol. They'll ask you how you want something before you have a chance to even figure out you might want it a different way! The coffee is strong and does what coffee is supposed to do. The food comes out quickly. Everything I've ordered has been perfectly prepared and DELICIOUS. This trip, I chose the Monster Bowl while Melissa went with the Chipotle Bowl. Can you say 'Yummmm'? Small diner with pretty good food! We were sat in a booth by the front door and it was super cold outside so everytime someone would come in and out of the restaurant we would get hit with the wind. Great staff, and decent coffee, and gigantic portions. Cons: I tried their monster bowl, loaded with peppers and onions, scrambled eggs, Italian sausage, and sausage gravy over biscuits. Holy cow it was huge. There were so many different flavors they literally overpowered each other making a mess of my taste buds! I've passed this restaurant for years, thinking it was an Italian restaurant from the name. After all those years, I decided to actually look into the restaurant and saw it was a breakfast spot! With that I decided to go on a busy Saturday morning. The service was extremely fast. I got a ham and cheese omelette with hashbrowns and toast and it was very good. If I had to say anything about it I didn't like that the ham was really big chunks and not smaller. It did hit the spot though. I also had a bite of the pancakes and they were super fluffy and excellent as well. I love Avanti's! I have only ever ordered the breakfasts. My go-to is the Avanti Frittata. The Italian sausage, spicy pepperoni, and marinara combo is absolute perfection. My boyfriend also gets this every time we go - portion is really good and they give you two slices of toast. Staff is super friendly. I live in Pittsburgh but do business pretty regularly in Erie. I typically do very-early breakfast meeting presentations for large groups of people. In general, I prefer giving my business to local places, to support their businesses. I did some homework and called 4 locally-owned breakfast diners and was surprised when I was told each time that they couldn't do the orders. I was pretty surprised, considering they were large orders, and I thought they'd appreciate the business. I found Avantis and thought I'd try one more local place before resorting to a chain restaurant (sigh). To my delight, the sweet woman who answered the phone said "We don't open until 8 am, but let me check with the owner and call you back." For context, I had to pick up the food at 6:30 AM. 2 minutes later, she called me to let me know they could accommodate me! I wish I remembered her name! She was the tall blonde with dark-rimmed glasses. When I arrived to pick up my order with my work partner, Melissa, they were waiting for us, and opened the back door to let us right in. The guys in the back grabbed the bags and loaded them in our cars (there were a ton, lol) while I settled up. I must say, I am SO HAPPY I found Avantis, a place that truly appreciates the patronage and goes over-and-beyond. I told everyone at that work appointment this story and told them to go here for breakfast ! The day I left town, I returned with my work partner and our boss. My breakfast was PERFECT !!! I can be very particular about how I like my fried eggs cooked, but they nailed them! I even asked for a second English muffin to clean my plate (yolk)! My boss loved her meal (BLT with wedding soup), and Melissa loved her vegetable omelette. They all recognized us and greeted us immediately. Sooo happy we landed here for breakfast while in town one weekend. They were busy but we were able to be seated right away. Staff was nice (there was one waitress complaining about being busy but we didn't have her). The food was soooo gooooood. My husband ordered the corned beef hash special and said it was excellent. The shredded hash brown potatoes and the omelette were cooked perfectly. The English muffin was grilled on the flat top. I'm not sure what I think of the result. It was fine, but I think I would have preferred toasted. The portion sizes were small. The amount of food was adequate, but smaller than you'd get elsewhere for the same price. I really enjoyed my Saturday brunch here this weekend. When you walk into the restaurant, it does seem like you're stepping back in time into a dark, 1960s diner. The menu isn't huge... but there's definitely something for everyone! They're best for breakfast/brunch/lunch... and serve dinner on Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights. Do not recommend, food is awful and wait staff is super overwhelmed (some were even down right rude). Eggs Benedict Hollandaise tasted like straight butter. Spinach was clearly frozen and cold. The thing I think was the worst was the service. We were constantly forgotten about. We were met with sass and disregard when we asked for menus, more water, etc. I believe one waitresses name was Gabby, with dark black hair and she was so incredibly rude I am surprised she still has a job. As my daughter said, "A thousand stars!" This is our first visit out of many more to come to this lovely restaurant. The staff are friendly and greeted us with a warm welcome. Everyone is compliant with wearing a mask and then place is clean. Spaced out seating arrangement for safety and the wait for a table wasn't long at all. The food took some time but it was well worth it. Everything was delicious. I appreciate the slight toast to my hashbrowns and the Benedict sauce was creamy and well seasoned. My daughter who's 9 years old and my 6 year old son were both dancing as they ate the food so that's a good indication of how yummy everything was.
