Rushton is the best ever!! Would honestly go and request him. The steak frites and salad are amazing and the complimentary popcorn is addictive! Drinks, service, food, ambiance was all amazing. Rushton, we love you. Not to mention, we were on our way out the door after being super annoying asking a million questions to which they answered every single one, and they handed us a bag full of brownie cookies, oatmeal raisin, and chocolate chip cookies. Thank you Jose read more

Here for a business dinner. Enthusiastic greeting as we walked up to check in for our reservation by Stephane and Stephanie. We shared crustini (tomato, cheese, crispy procuitto), and munched on the seasoned popcorn on the table. I had the octopus and little gem salad (pictured). Others in our party had the scallops, their black Angus filet (colleague said it was the best he had eaten), Korean shrimp stir fry. One of our party was a vegetarian and they were very accommodating, she had a mix of the summer succotash and wild mushrooms. Everyone raved about their meals. read more

I ordered grilled octopus to go. No one warned us it would be a long wait. I waited over 30 minutes and got one tentacle. We got an apology from the manager but the only thing offered to us to remedy the issue was to come back at a later time so they could make it right, or I could wait more time for something else on the menu. I asked for a refund and continued to wait for that to be processed. I missed my ferry and am really upset for this entire experience. read more

Service was great but we didn't like the food. Ordered halibut and sea bass, both were Flavorless and bland. Also so oily especially the noodles that came with halibut. For the price I expected more. read more

Bartender on 4th of July was a joke. Sat for 5 minutes and no service. Do not visit the establishment if you are looking for service.

If you're in Avalon, Catalina, The Avalon Grill is a place to check out. It's got a most awesome location right on front row of Avalon harbor. The chow is great-it's pretty darn great. The location is front row. The ambiance is cool & romantic. My babe thought the halibut she ordered was fantastic. YMMV but I'll go back for more. read more

We were there on 28th of June for my birthday, with my husband and daughter, first of all they forgot some of our orders and I asked over and over to bring our missing orders, and after all I asked to bring some desert so we could celebrate my birthday but the waiter said the kitchen is closed!!! And gave us the bill, but they were accepting new costumers and it was 3:00 pm , so we paid and left and couldn't even celebrate my birthday, my daughter was too disappointed!!! Very bad service!!! read more

The only reason my family of 4 came here is because our waiter @ descanso beach club suggested it & gave us a coupon card for 10% off. 1st negative score is because we asked to sit outside on the patio- the manager lady who was seating us said "it was closed for the night", mind you it was 7:30pm. You're a beachside restaurant, people want to sit outside. You should not be closing your most valuable real estate area before the restaurant is actually closed. It doesn't make sense. We are a party of 4, 1 table- we are not going to trash the whole patio. I would've let it go but then she did this... 2nd negative mark: Lack of care and ownership from the manager lady on duty. We forgot the coupon card at the table at the place that had recommended we go to the restaurant in the first place. When I brought this to my waiter's attention, he told us that he was going to see what he could do. The manager came over (same lady who told us that we couldn't sit outside) and let us know that there was nothing she could do without the coupon card. I didn't fight her on it I just said ok... I find it very hard to believe that you are a manager at a restaurant and one little piece of paper is going to deter you from making the moment right for your customers. Are you simply in the building just to enforce all of the rules or are you there to help your customers and elevate their experience? The manager pretended like she had no power or authority... if you are a manager on duty at a restaurant and you have the inability to give a 10% discount when you need to then what is the point of you being there? Had the manager seize the opportunity to do the right thing this would've been a completely different review. Food was decent, but way over priced. Would not go back based on the lack of care and effort displayed by the manager. Hopefully next time for the next family, the manager will choose to do the right thing... the discount is NOT coming out of your paycheck. read more

The "local catch" was a tuna backbone that you couldn't cut with a knife and we saw the server three times total. Do not eat here.

Went in for Happy Hour and per the posted ad board outside which stated all Premium Drinks were 1/2 off. But at the bar there was a limited menu of about 9 selections. When the bartender was asked he stated that only the drinks on the menu were Happy Hour prices and all other drinks were regular price. Very Deceptive! read more

Finally a solid and tasty meal here on the island. Jimmy made some recommendations and they did not disappoint. The best part was the professional staff unlike other places around here where you can tell the workers are just seasonal and don't really care. Highly recommend the Rib Eye and the watermelon/feta salad. Thanks guys!! read more

Beautiful, warm interior and ambiance. Food selection is somewhat limited but has great choice for starters and main courses - - and the food is good! Great bar, wine selection and one of the best Manhattans I have ever had. But, best is the friendly, professional staff. We went there to dinner twice and both times the service was too-notch. Our waiter was amazing and he's a local from Catalina. He's totally adorable and so knowledgeable about this lovely island. My bluefin appetizer was gluten free and tasted fresh and delicious. Avalon Grille is one of the spots for upscale dining in Avalon. The guests are pretty casual, but it is a more formal atmosphere. There is a large and loud dining room with a full bar and a decedent sized, heated patio. We were mercifully seated on the patio, so it was not so loud. The service was generally attentive and helpful. This is pretty much surf and turf with prices to match. I had an interesting seared Ahi dish on top of some disappointing risotto. Flavors in the dish without the risotto were great. DH had the killer ribeye grilled cheese which was amazing. The Brussels, green bean and burrata appetizers were all excellent. Corkage is a steep $35/bottle, but we were celebrating with some pretty awesome wine and paid the price. Because there are so few restaurants in Avalon that will take a reservation, this is a great pic for a group. I would go again, but be prepared for the dent in your wallet. read more

Avalon Grille is a gorgeous and inviting spot--perfect for a memorable meal. We had the pleasure of sitting by the windows, which added to the lovely ambiance. The food truly impressed us: the ribeye, with its unique coffee-brown sugar and chili rub, was out of this world, and the halibut was cooked to perfection. A cute touch was serving popcorn instead of bread, and we couldn't forget to mention the grille's Old Fashioned cocktail, which was simply amazing. We went to Avalon Grill for a birthday dinner, we were there for extended birthday weekend. The place was busy, likely due to the race the following morning but we were sat right away. Our waitress, Sara, was absolutely amazing. She was very friendly, gave us some history of Catalina Island, some recommendations on where to visit and offered recommendations from the menu. We had such a lovely experience, we absolutely loved Sara and nearly went back just to get that service again. We will definitely come back next visit to the island, Sara is an absolute gem, wonderful location right on the Main Street with ocean views. Couldn't have asked for a better place or service. It was Friday night and our last night in Catalina, so we were walking up and down the main street trying to find a place to eat. On a busy weekend night, we were surprised that there was no wait even though the restaurant was busy. The food was standard American food-burgers, sandwiches, appetizers. My husband and daughter both ordered burgers which they fully finished. I ordered the opened face pastrami sandwich which was huge! The meat was really juicy and tender, it fell right apart without much effort. Our server came around and checked on us often, almost way too much at times. It was a good experience overall. read more

horrible experience. made us wait long. and couldn't eat without being fully closed like it's not next to the water.

Our family recently visited Catalina for my birthday and as we walked down Crescent Avenue and hit the boardwalk, a very friendly maitre d' at the Avalon Grille offered to help me with a family photo op. Hmmmm, now where to eat dinner? How about this classy restaurant right in front of us with an amazing view and super helpful and friendly staff?! Our server Jimmy was fantastic, very friendly, attentive, professional, and he even took time to answer some of my stupid questions in great detail, cheers Jimmy! My wife and I loved the patio experience, all the food was great, even our five year old daughter ate everything on her plate (shout out to the kid's menu) and she enjoyed Jimmy's extra attention too! The upscale yet casual and comfortable dining experience was a treat. All the folks working at the Avalon Grille were very nice and attentive. Great dinner spot right on the corner by the water! We got a nice patio table with a beautiful view. Food was excellent! Tried the Old Fashioned and Life's a Peach -- Old Fashioned was good but that Life's a Peach is dangerously special! Started with the Burrata Salad and Grilled Octopus -- both were excellent! Enjoyed the Bison Steak Frites (exceptional!) and Filet (pretty good). Highly recommend the Bison Steak Frites. Service was superb from hostess to main server. The food was good--but let me put it this way: compared to Las Vegas standards? Not really. But for the island, it was decent. What actually made the dining experience feel special wasn't the food itself--it was the way it was presented and served. Our server described everything so beautifully that it made the whole moment more enjoyable. The appetizer was genuinely delicious--flavorful and well-prepared. The drink was excellent, too. As for the steak I ordered--I was almost satisfied, but it didn't quite hit that 100% mark for me. read more

4-1/2 stars for the beautiful restaurant interior-- has a swanky, old-timey feel of the 1920's! Came here for our last dinner in town. Service was attentive and courteous, and we sat by the window for views of the water and people-watching. The complementary popcorn was a nice touch. The scallops I got were buttery and delicious, and the sides (broccolini and roasted potatoes) were lovely. Paired that with a glass of Riesling, and it was solid! The ambience was really nice and the service was great. The food was mediocre. I did not care for the popcorn which has some sort of ranch flavoring on it. Maybe it's just me, but I like popcorn to taste like popcorn , not some dressed up version. The sashimi appetizer was bland and the veggie ramen was under seasoned. The dumplings were fried. I thought they would be plain. My husband and son enjoyed the dinner more than I did. read more

Food 4/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 4.5/5 As far as fine dining goes in Avalon, there are not a ton of options. In my opinion, Avalon Grille is the best all around pick. A corner location right along the waterfront, dim lighting around an intimate wrap-around bar, and cozy corner booth options are a few reasons why AG feels among the nicest restaurants in the town. They serve complimentary popcorn before your meal. It was freshly popped and well seasoned (this ain't your movie theater style buttered popcorn...). There were also decent options for pescatarians and vegetarians. I had the fig and burrata salad which was large enough for an entree and included a generous amount of figs and persimmons. There was a small mixup with my Brussels sprouts which I had requested without the pork belly; however, it was quickly fixed and we were generously comp'd a discount on the meal. My boyfriend enjoyed the filet mignon which was cooked perfectly to a medium rare. For dessert we got the peach tartlet which was lacking in the filling but had a well baked pie crust. What sets this restaurant apart from the other "island vibe" restaurants is the service. Our server, Jimmy (James M), was super helpful, respectful of our space and time, and engaged in just the right amount of small talk IMO. We've tried most of the restaurants on the island at this point, and I can safely that while other servers are very friendly, the "island vibe" mentality sometimes translates to slower service and a laidback attitude when it comes to getting the check promptly or forgetting something we ordered. All of the other wait staff that brought out our dishes were professional and knowledgeable, and our dishes were always cleared promptly. This is definitely the restaurant I'd pick for a "nice" dinner in Avalon. read more

I am so glad I chose this restaurant. My boyfriend and I had our weekend trip to Catalina for our anniversary. I was so so so stuck on where to eat for our anniversary dinner. I kept going back and forth. For some reason I was drawn to here. First off, Compliments to the free habanero popcorn. It was honestly so fresh and delicious. Server was so nice and kept refilling it! I got the steak and frites, Brussels spouts and the ahi poke as appetizers! Steak was cook to perfection. Medium rare. Some places don't get medium rare right but they definitely did! Food is phenomenal. I definitely want to take my family to this restaurant. Brussels sprouts is also my favorite. Staff: Very impressive service here, though all we did was get dessert to go. We were helped by Anna who was so sweet. Another woman asked if we were being helped. Great job! Quality/Quantity: Really tasty dessert. The chocolate mousse is sweet, the lower cake is moist, and the addition of fruit greatly enhanced the flavor. Value: Free as our hotel gives a credit at various restaurants. I want to say it was $14. Overall: Seems like a really nice place. Was recommended to come here for dinner (only open for 3 hours from 5pm to 8pm) by a local and it was a hit! The atmosphere was lively and everyone is friendly. Hubby and I started off with our drinks... dragonberry mojito for me and an old fashion with cherry bitter and crispy bacon garnish for him. We ordered the grilled octopus which was slow cooked and finished on the grill for a crisp. I normally don't like the overly chewy texture of octopus, but this one was excellent with lots of flavors from the aioli and pickled onions with a light spicy kick. My husband got the pork porterhouse with sides of fall veggies succotash and truffle mash. OMG this was cooked to perfection! Pork was juicy and moist with lots of flavor, especially with the apple compote AND not overly salty. I got the short rib pappardelle pasta and that was full of flavor. Short ribs were tender and melt in your mouth and the pasta was fresh and not your typical dried and then cooked. Rich, flavorful and delicious! Kiddo got miso soy crispy pork belly ramen, which was the Wednesday special. Perfect for this chilly evening weather and rich in umami flavor. Dessert was lemon and coconut sorbet with berries and bread pudding. Put us over into a food coma, but an excellent way to end the night! James the GM was awesome and came checked on us throughout our meal. Sarah our server made some delicious recommendations and Muhammad was cheery and helpful. Everyone there was friendly and nice. Definitely a place to come to for a romantic meal or a gathering with family and friends. read more
