This place is amazing. The food we ordered was the best. we tried the grilled octopus appetizer, coconut shrimp, steak was cooked to perfection and so was the pork chop. I highly recommended trying this place you won't be disappointed! Also I have to mention the manager Yafei was the best. He really made us feel welcomed and gave the best service. Again I highly recommend!! read more

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner here on our last evening in Avalon. Our waiter, Jimmy, provided great service. The soft shell crab and venison specials were especially tasty. read more

Friendly service. Good raw, something, whatever that was that Desi had me try, lol! Nice lunch menu.

We made it to happy hour but sadly we weren't hungry to try out the menu since we just ate. We were on a mission for drinks. The only drink special they had was on well drinks which was a bummer. We sat at the bar and the restaurant itself is really nice and upscale. You also get a view nice view of the ocean, so that's always a plus. The only thing we ordered was a Bloody Mary (2 each) and we had no complaints. It was good, especially with the Tajin instead of salt, game charger! Both bartenders working were very nice and attentive and knew when to ask us if we were ready for another drink. I would like to come back here and try the food, the $22 brunch caught my eye so I will have to try that the next time we're back. read more

My wife and I had dinner for her birthday at the Avalon Grille. From the time we arrived to the time we left we were treated like Royalty. We start at the bar and drank champagne and eat the fried green bean plate as an appetizer. We where taken to our table a half our later. I had the ribeye steak and my wife had the scallops. Both dishes had amazing flavor and cooked to perfection. The plate presentations were elegant and inviting. We want to give a special shout out to the staff for their excellent service. Some individuals that stood out to us where Yafet, our host, Ryan our bar tender, and Fabi our server. Each made the time enjoyable. We are so glad the Grille is open. The quality of service and the food is amazing. read more

Catalina Island does not let you make reservations but this place was able to seat up immediately when there was an hour and a half wait at the Lobster trap. They serve you spiced popcorn to chow on while waiting for food. It is literally crack, you won't be able to stop eating it. I do wish they would refill it. We had the meatballs for an appetizer which were just okay. My parents had the salmon with mashed potatoes which they enjoyed. My dish was the winner though. Everyone kept wanting more bites of my food. I got the steak (no butter) with the chimchurri sauce on the side. The steak was amazing. It was juicy, tender and flavorful. You don't need the sauce at all. I got it with a side of truffle fries which was mediocre. I wish I had gotten the garlic wedges instead. Still a solid dinner and food was served in good time for 3 very hungry people. read more

Excellent food, service and ambience. 10/10 recommend this place. I will be back upon future visits !

Definitely a must when in Catalina. The seafood was fresh and steak was juicy. The ahi was perfectly lemony, paired with tasty seaweed. Make sure to make a reservation as they do get busy durning dinner time. Our server, Robin, was attentive and accommodating. She def made the experience even more delightful. read more

Had an awful experience with the food there. Spent the most I've ever paid for a steak & had to send it back because it was way under cooked. The second time around it was so over cooked & rubbery I couldn't eat it. No manager around to even care about the poor food experience. IMHO, this is NOT the hallmark of a high end dining establishment. Save your hard earned money & eat somewhere else. read more

Food was pretty good but the service is seriously lacking. Put our name in for a table. Said they would call. It was supposed to be about 30 min. 45 min goes by and no call. So we checked with the hostess and they said they called I had no call from them. They sat a bunch of people who were behind us before us. To top it off we waited 30 min plus after we finished dinner still waiting for the waiter to check on us and give us the check. Smh. read more

First of all this place is beautiful inside. The service is always top notch and the menu has something for everyone. I started with the dragon fruit mojito, this drink was refreshing and had the right balance of ingredients. For dinner I choose the lamb meatloaf, which is new to their menu. It was delicious, was full of flavor and very filling. We ended are night with two lattes and the rum bread pudding, it was one of the best I have had, the rum sauce was to die for! All in all we always have a wonderful experience here and highly recommend you visit the restaurant while visiting Avalon. Trust me you will not be disappointed. read more

Didn't have any complaints about this place. Staffs were accommodating and nice. Came here off season around 7pm, there was a mistake on the reservation but they accommodated the reservation quickly. The alcoholic drinks were a bit on the sweeter side. But still tasty. Ordered: -truffle fries: huge portions!! Yum, it came with ketchup and mustard looking sauce but it was not mustard, it was some kind of aioli -octopus: it was cooked well but the octopus itself was on the salty side. Best eaten with the sauce it came on top of plus the veggies -lobster linguine: great, tasty. It was creamy so it's heavy. It came in a green colored pasta (spinach?) there's also small bits of sausage, the seasoning was just right -wagyu burger: tasty, good ol' classic burger -eggplant confit: entree size, the eggplant was to die for. The marinara sauce was tasty too, it went really well together. They also provide you with hot bread with butter--yum! I would come back. read more

Joanna was an amazing server who went above and beyond to meet our family needs. Upon arrival the high chair provided by the hostess had a broken buckle so Joanna took it upon herself during the peak dinner rush to run down the street to their sister restaurant to see if they had any extra. The food and drinks were amazing. We were there on a Sunday night for their prime rib special which was fantastic. Ask for Joanna - she'll treat you well! read more

Had a late lunch here this past weekend with friends and luckily, it was their happy hour which features $2 tacos and $3 sliders. The shrimp slider was the best shrimp I've ever had - very tender and juicy and the sauce was perfect! We also had the chicken tinga slider and truffle fries - all good. This place is a must try if you're ever there. read more

First restaurant we tried getting off the boat they have a prime location. Here is what I'll say, they are probably one of the nicer restaurants on the island.. decor, view and overall selection. But not sure it's all worth it. We had brunch but basically was a marked up breakfast with bottomless mimosas for $13 more. They make it so it's a no brainer because regular drink prices are expensive. Anyhow the omelet I got was good. The pre meal/ apps were not good. It was fruit and a salad that tasted horrible.. with beets in it. Would I return sure but be prepared to spend some $$also the champagne they used gave me a pounding headache. read more

This was my second time being here and all I can say is WOW! Hats off to the chef! The octopus was charred to perfection. The furikake popcorn was a pleasant surprise. The short rib pasta was amazing, the scallops were impeccable, and the steak frites were delicious with every bite. This place is a must-try if you visit the island. We will definitely be coming back. read more

Should have walked away when we waited about 5 min ungreeted by anyone and we're required to wait 25 minutes to get seated at a table that was open from the time we walked in. I should say this was 8pm on a Tuesday night when it was about 2/3rd full. The hostess was extremely inept and. unfortunately, my birthday dinner went down from there. Server was friendly but rarely came by, so our plates were left on the table uncleared until we left and the worst was the meal itself. Unbelievably bland while insanely expensive. My swordfish (of the day) had no flavor, husband's "Hulu" chicken was loaded with garlic and was dry and the sides tasted a day old. Sorry but if you're going to charge $200 for dinner I expected way more. Will never go back. read more

Willie was the best! The food was delicious and ambience was perfect. Love the decor and service!

Happy hour!!! On the menu are $2 tacos, $3 sliders, $11 calamari and $12 chicken wings. There are also $5 drink specials. I believe its from 3-5pm only at the bar.. A must try restaurant when you are in town. All the staffs are fantastic. read more

Avalon Grille - Happy hour!!! - New American Near Me - Avalon, California

For dinner, I recommend showing up at least an hour before you actually want to eat. They don't take reservations, so we had to put in our names at the door and wait about an hour to be seated on a Tuesday night. On weekends I'm sure the wait is much longer. I'm glad to say it was well worth it. We started with the burrata & beet salad, and sides of the wild mushroom and mac & cheese. All three were fantastic. The marination of the beets and flavour of the burrata were phenomenal. Being a vegetarian I ordered the cauliflower tacos and they were quite good as well. The tacos were well endowed and the cauliflower well seasoned. The lavender cocktail was also delicious & wonderfully lavender-y without being overdone. It was pricey, but I would happily eat here again. read more

Update! We went two nights in a row because it was so good. I highly recommend the Calamari. Excellent and professional staff and management. Top notch! We had a great experience in everyway for my Mother's birthday. We ordered two delicious margaritas (we ordered one more later) and a wedge salad to split, which was put on two plates. My Mom and I started main dishes after that, mine was the Sole Cabrese and my Mom had the Crispy Calamari and Scallops. Both dishes were amazing! I mentioned upon my reservation that it was my Mother's birthday and we were surprised by a delectable chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream with a cherry type sauce. Everyone sang and my my Mom had the best time. It was nice to see my Mom smile. :) Place is elegant and clean and the service is impeccable. read more

We came here for our anniversary and loved it! We ordered the filet mignon with sides and tomato soup which were both great and very flavorful. Our server was very nice and James was spectacular! He was very kind and made sure that everything was perfect. We are definitely coming back! read more

We arrived in Catalina for a two night stay. The town seems to close up fairly early but we were lucky to find the Avalon Grille. The food is very tasty, the first night we split the eggplant confit & the Buffalo Short Ribs. Both were very tasty. Our waitress was very personable as was the hostess. Since we got there early before 6:00 they gave us tickets to the movies @ the Casino! SCORE!!! We saw The Black Panther on the very first talking theater with perfect acoustics. More about the Casino if a different review. We were going somewhere else for the next night but decided to return to Avalon since the food & service are so great. This time we got the fried green beans for an appetizer which are delicious! AND we split the fish of the day & a wedge salad. Very good! Great service, great food, great value! Our only regret it was cold, we would have loved to have sit outside. read more

Five stars for this joint - bomb food that looks like it came out of a magazine and stellar service. This was the best place we went to when we were in Avalon. The prices are a litttttle high but not that bad. Two meals with two glasses of wine cost us $100 total; I think that's the norm for islands. We had the angus steak and the calamari; delicious decisions and a nice view from the window; even at night. read more

Came for honeymoon, ordered burgers medium, they came out well done with soggy fries. The bacon on both burgers was hardly cooked, mostly raw. We sent back 3 pieces and got only 2 pieces back that were slightly more cooked but still had raw spots. Server was nice and polite and checked on us, however the kitchen is seriously lacking. We still ate food because we want to explore the island and not get stuck in a restaurant for the night. This review is mostly for me so when I come back with friends for diving, I'll remember to skip out on this place. read more

We at Avalon Grille on Tuesday, 6/13/21. The food and service were wonderful. I had the Grilled Pork Chop and my husband had the Cioppino. He said it was the best Cioppino he had ever eaten. When we arrived the host asked if we had a reservation, the restaurant was empty. Jokingly, we asked do we need one? The host had no sense of humor, and was very annoyed with us. Then we were seated in a table against the wall right bedside the only other people in the restaurant. We asked if we could sit somewhere else and the waitress said she would have to check with the host. We picked a lovely seat outside by a heater, vey nice on a chilly night. The waitress was very friendly and accommodating. We ordered the roasted chicken for two with two sides the broccolini and the bok choy slaw. We also ordered the truffle fries. You can never go wrong with truffle fries. Yummy. The roasted chicken was good a little expensive for chicken. The view of Catalina from the restaurant amazingly beautiful.. read more

Breakfast- Come early for the breakfast buffet. It gets crowded. Not worth 20$, but free for guests at Atwater/Pavilion. Nary a vegetable in sight, unless you count the potatoes and salsa. While I've to Avon Grill PC or PreCovid and it was great my experience tonight was a complete disappointment. We actually did not even make it to a table after waiting 80min. We'd checked in with the hostess 3 times who identified our table and showed us it in corner patio. Unfortunately the new manager Louis gave our table away while we were outside waiting, then when confronted he made up some silly reason for giving our table away from under us. We saw it happen live tried politely to approach the Manager Louis and make right, but failed. So just fair warning I've had the food, it can be great. But the new manager its not on his game in accommodating patrons read more

Great location, comfortable atmosphere, friendly service, and good food. Probably the best restaurant in Avalon - recommend!

Despite LA County mandate, there is absolutely no checking of vaccination status to dine and no mask enforcements. The staff don't wear their masks correctly, mostly below the nose, if at all. From the City of Avalon website: Catalina Island, including the city of Avalon, are a part of Los Angeles County, as such we follow the LA County guidelines. They don't. read more

Service was great by our lovely server on a Saturday night holiday weekend. Seating is comfortable and the common street-open display window draws in fresh ocean scent which adds to another dimension of enjoyment. Not really an ideal date spot as the bar counters picks up quickly on game dates and what not, noise level is high. Food is your standard American bistro menu. You can find your typical filets, grilled fish, Brussels sprouts, fries and more. See photos. Flavor is average, some are missing seasoning, some are over salted, some steaks are over cooked, some are under cooked. lol 3 stars for the food. Drinks are good, solid props to the bartenders for making my "Final Words" which is closest to an "Old Fashioned". The Squid App is a banger, and their filets are soft and high quality. read more

Drinks took forever at the bar. Food took even longer. My friends eggs came out over easy. She asked for over medium. The MANAGER ran out the refire order of eggs and brought them to her and said "here are your OVER HARD eggs" My friend stated she had asked for her eggs over medium. The manager then says "why don't you check them yourself to see if you like them." First off, accidents happen with food. I get that. Secondly, it's a managers and executive chefs responsibility to make sure that refire orders are ran back to the guest correctly, and to be confident that the order is correct the second time. Food was ok. But not worth the wait and the money. read more

I think 1 star is the highest we'd go after our experience at this restaurant. The food, 10/10, so good! The new manager, James 11/10, so amazing., the hostesses and bartenders (service in general) truly the worst I've EVER experienced, hence the bad review we're giving. I came in with my boyfriend and couple friends for New Year's day dinner. From the start, the hostess came off cold and rude to us all for no good reason. After telling us there was only space at the bar and an hour wait for a table, we kindly accepted and said we'd wait for a table at the bar if that wasn't a problem, then intended to promptly order food and drinks so we could make their cutoff for food orders (8pm). Bartenders were also cold and barley acknowledged us. After seeing some tables leave and get cleaned off, we kindly waited to see if the hostess would tell us a table finally opened up for us. After about 20 min, and ordering our food, we stopped the hostess to see if we could sit in one of the tables that had now been empty for a solid 10 min (there were about 3 available and no one waiting for tables). She reacted coldly to us, and with no hospitality reluctantly moved us to an open table from the bar. Not to mention they were clearly scoffing and blatantly pointing and laughing at us from afar. We asked the bar tender if we could close out with her so she could get a tip for helping us out, but low and behold, she was short, rude, and quite frankly condescending. As all of us in my party work in the service industry, we left her a cash tip and intended to buy more with our server at our new table. With a bad taste in our mouth about the service in the place, we still continued to be friendly with a smile and understanding that they might just be on edge after the holiday. The only person to be any bit kind to us all night was the new Manager, James. He was friendly and attentive and completely turned around our experience. After taking and running a new drink order for us, no one else came up to our table the rest of the night. We weren't brought water all night, weren't checked on by a server, no bussing, and no one even brought us a check. We were so confused what could have brought on this rude treatment by the staff. By the end of the night, we put on our coats and began to walk towards the bar for the bartender to rudely shout at us if we closed our last check. We promptly told her no one came to our table (it was an empty restaurant at this point) to give us a check and we'd be happy to close out. All in all, James and the great food made our experience acceptable. The rude young lady hostess and lady bartender were so uncalled for and truly made us ever want to return (also not saying goodbye, thank you, have a good night, anything). Again, as a group of service workers that understand how important hospitality is, we had such a hard time wanting to leave a good tip. Wish I could leave you the names of the unprofessional girls that helped us out for the night but I'm sure others have had the same experience. We truly felt targeted for no good reason. Wanted to leave a no star review for the service and uncalled for treatment but ambiance was good, food was great, and we were thankful for James to turn around our night. Bummmer. We understand if the staff was having a hard night but maybe the team needs a refresh on how to be service workers. read more

I come to Avalon often and want to love this place. But every time we come here, the staff makes it hard. Today we walked in, waited to sit at the bar. No staff cleaned up the bar, so I wiped up the mess and we sat down at the bar. 8 minutes later, finally the bartender came by We ordered a happy hour tap beer and the beer taps are out of order. A Coors is $5 on happy hour which is normal price. I ordered a club soda and got maybe 4 ounces (and I'm being generous) of club soda with ice and it ends up being $4!! Really?? $4 for club soda Wine cost $5! Highway robbery!! We would have ordered more but sadly the service and the pricing sucks. We talked to the manager and he said "club soda doesn't cost that". But he wasn't willing to do anything about it. He just apologized several times and said while he oversees the place he couldn't or wouldn't give us our money back. Even though club soda doesn't cost $4, he was unwilling to help us. $4 for a 4 oz club soda from the gun!!?! No thanks. Never coming back. And neither should you. Avalon is amazing with great restaurants and bars. But stay away from Island Company run businesses, not worth going to at all. Sadly, what a rip off... it's just the point. BTW I went to 4 other restaurants last night and club soda from the gun was in a large glass and free!! read more
